  • This study presents a facile way synthesizing disc-like lipid bilyaer nanostructures with a cationic amphiphilic polyelectrolyte. The cationic amphiphilic polyelectrolyte was in a form of partially quarternized copolymer and was synthesized with 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate and stearyl methacrylate. At some concentration ranges of the polymer, the addition of the polymer to lipid components during the preparation of bilayer nanostructures resulted in discs with a fairly high yield (~99%). The mechanism for the formation of the nanostructures was discussed based on the physical properties of these nanostructures and by comparing the nanostructures obtained with an anionic amphiphilic polyelectrolyte.

  • The distribution of local anesthetics between the hydrocarbone interior and surface area of the lipid bilayer of liposomal membrane was calculated employeg fluorescence probe technique. The quenching of fluorescence probe technique. The quenching of fluorescence probe technique. The quenching of fluorescence of 12-(9-anthroyl) stearic acid and N-octadecyl naphthyl-2-amini-6-sulfonic acid by the local anesthetics in liposomal system was used to calculate the distribution. The Stern-Volmer equation was modified and employed for this calculation. The results showed that procaine hydrocloride and benzocaine were mainly distributed on the surface area of the lipid bilayer of the liposoal membrane, while tetracaine hydrochloride penetrated effectively into the hydrocarbon interior and showed even distribution in the lipid bilayer.

  • Tolaasin is a channel forming bacterial toxin produced by Pseudomonas tolaasii and causes a brown blotch disease on cultivated oyster mushrooms. When tolaasin molecules form channels in the membranes of mushroom cells, they destroy cellular membrane structure, known as 'colloid osmotic lysis'. In order to understand the molecular mechanisms forming membrane channels by tolaasin molecules, we have investigated the electrophysiological characteristics of tolaasin-induced channels in lipid bilayer.(omitted)

  • The layered structure of cobalt dodecanesulfate was synthesized. A phase transition takes place at various temperature ranges and results in a drastic change of the layer distance. A monolayer structure of cobalt dodecanesulfate at room temperature transformed to a bilayer structure as a dehydrated form at high temperature.

  • We fabricated top emission organic light emitting diode (TEOLED) with transparent metal cathode Barium and Silver bilayer. Very thin Ba/Ag bilayer was deposited on the organic layer by thermal evaporation. This cathode shows high transmittance over 70% in visible range. And the device with a Ba-Ag has a low turn on voltage and good electrical properties.

  • NiSi were formed from either Ni monolayer or Ni/Ti bilayer and the SADS method was applied to fabricated PMOSFET with Ni-polycide gate electrodes. PMOSFET made from Ni monolayer showed thermal stability unto 300~40$0^{\circ}C$ for 600sec., and excellent C-V characteristics for long time of drive-in anneal than PMOSFET made from Ni/Ti bilayer. This was attributed to easier decomposition and subsequent Ni diffusion to SiO$_2$ layer, probably due to the presence of Ti unreducing process

  • We have studied diffusion behavior of NiFe/Ag bilayer deposited by on silicon Ion Beam Sputtering methods. The diffusion behavior of NiFe and Ag in NiFe/Ag thin film is analyzed by Medium Energy Ion Scattering Spectroscopy. For samples without Ta underlayer, silicides such as Ni-Si or Fe-Si were formed at Si substrate and NiFe interface. In contrast, Ag predominantly diffused into the NiFe layer probably through their grain boundaries for Ta underlayered samples.

  • In a simulation study of atomic resolution transmission electron microscope images of single layer and bilayer graphene, it is demonstrated that the conventional Bloch wave formulations can be used when high-order Laue zone reflections are properly taken into account in the theory. The simulated images for bilayer graphene show 3-fold rotational lattice symmetry rather than the 6-fold one under certain conditions. This result can be understood as revealed the 3-fold rotational lattice symmetry of bilayer graphene in three dimensions along [0001]. For single layer graphene the observed phase images showing 3-fold rotational lattice symmetry were particularly noted. This phenomenon has been explained by an assumption of the re-configuration of electron density on the surface of graphene. And the matching images have been obtained as simulated with up to the second order Laue zone reflections only, reflecting the re-configuration of electrons on the surface.
