The Negative Impact Study on the Information of the Large Discount Retailers

  • Purpose - This study aims to find out what impacts large retailers' behaviors appearing when they promote the strengthening of their market dominating power in the trade relations with small and medium suppliers or in the market can have on consumers. Research design, data, methodology - This study analyzed negative information (news) on large retailers (Lotte Mart, E-Mart and Homeplus) based on the monthly data over the past five years from 2008 to 2012 and also analyzed the correlation between dependent variables that are likely to affect sales through large retailer economic index, Results - This study conducted a correlation analysis on the time lag of the factors that have an impact on the negative information and sales of large retailers in order to analyze how consumers respond to the choice of large retailers' store (store sales) when they perceived negative information about the un- ethical behaviors of large retailers. Conclusions - Unfair and negative information on large retailers appeared significant for the hypothesis that sales will be affected by the image of large retailers and change of consumer attitudes.

  • LG-mart, E-mart 같은 대형할인점의 중소도시에의 진입은 백화점 또는 소형규모의 할인점 같은 다른 유통형태의 진입때 보다 중소소매상점, 재래시장등에 커다란 영향을 미치고 있다. 특히 자금력, 판매력, 구매력, 수요기반 등이 훨씬 열악한 중소도시의 상인들에게는 생존의 문제이다. 이들이 지역경제에 미치는 영향을 고려하여 법적인, 행정적인 규제와 보호만 하는 것은 근본적인 문제를 해결하는 방법이 아닐 수 도 있다. 소비자들은 그들의 욕구를, 충족시키기 위해 구매하지, 중소소매상점, 재래시장 등의 어려움 때문에 구매하지 않기 때문이다. 고객의 욕구와 필요를 만족시키지 못하는 소매업태는 장기적으로 생존할 수 가 없다. 대형할인점의 진입에 따른 재래시장에 미치는 영향을 고찰하기 위해서는 전체적인 유통구조에서, 소비자의 입장에서 제품과 구매장소와의 연관성, 경쟁관계 등을 조사함으로써 유통시장의 현주소를 파악하고, 장기적인 측면에서 재래상가의 활성화방안을 논의하는 것이 중요하다. 이 연구에서는 최종소비자 입장에서 유통구조의 현황을 분석해보고, 이에 관련된 정책의 정당성을 소비자 입장에서 분석해본다.

대형 할인매장 주차장 이용만족도의 영향요인 분석 (Study Analysis of Big Box Retailer Parking Lot User's Satisfaction)

  • This research has analyzed factors affecting customers' satisfaction when they use parking lots of big retailers so that, in case of constructing, operating or managing such retailers, proper measures can be come up with. The analysis has been implemented on the basis of survey, and influence factors including entry/exit lamp, parking cars' traffic flow, parking type, pedestrians' movement after parking and safety. Parking lot users' satisfaction has been analyzed by using the Structural Equation Modelling and, as a result of it, in case of a detached or single building, pedestrians' movement flow after parking contributed the most to the users' satisfaction, while, in case of multipurpose complex, parking cars' traffic flow has the most influential factor. It is interpreted that users of a single building put a bigger emphasis on entry to the shop and their way back to the parked area after their shopping while customers of multipurpose complex might have various purposes of visiting the place and there are relatively more cars so that they put more emphasis on traffic counterflow, other cars and pedestrians.

우리나라 유통산업의 산업조직의 변화와 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study of Industrial Organizatioal Changes and Effects in Retail Businesses in Korea)

  • New retailers, especially giant retailers, so called "mart" or "discounter" which introduced around 1996, when Korea's domestic retail market was opened to the world, have brought big transitions. Consequently, new comers like discounters and CVS drove out department stores, mom & pops and traditional retailers. Literatures showed two reverse opinions for the giant retailers; rising consumers' benefit, or dropping small retailers' businesses. This study have conducted to find the situation of market concentration in retail market, and to learn the new market condition in it. According to the study, in 2005, CR3's of Korea's whole retail industry was counted 12.8%, and CR5 of that was 13.9%. CR3 of discount store business was 39%, department stores' 55%, and TV home shopping businesses' was 75%. In addition to those results, indices growing worse. So, we can say this industry already get into the oligopolistic industrial organization. Generally, under monopolistic or oligopolistic market structure, consumers' benefit may shrink and businesses' surplus profit may jump. So, it means, it's good time to turn government's policy for the retail industry in Korea to fair competition policy instead of development policy.

Korean Customer Attitudes Towards Retail Regulations

  • Purpose - This study is to identify how the retail regulations influence customer shopping behaviours and furthermore, whether the Store Closing Act really protects independent retailers as well as traditional markets in Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - By adopting frequency analysis and factor analysis method, the research achieved research objectives. Before a field survey, the authors pre-tested the questionnaire developed, based on similar previous articles, and finalized. Amongst the 353 questionnaires distributed, 332 were returned. It means the response rate is 94.5%. Furthermore, available questionnaires are 330. Results - Rather than stimulating customers to more frequently visit public markets, the regulation has provoked new customer shopping behaviours. In other words, some consumers tend to shop in big box retailers before or after a store closing day, whereas others are likely to stop shopping. What is important is that customers do not patronise small retailers and conventional markets, thanks to the Store Closing Act. Conclusions - In order to keep retailers and public markets independent, the researchers suggest that the government should introduce new techniques without impeding the growth of a retailing sector.

SSM 사업조정을 위한 중소유통사업자의 경쟁취약요인 분석 (An analysis of small-medium retailers' vulnerable factors in competition with SSM)

  • 중소유통업에 종사하는 대부분의 사람들은 가정의 생계수단으로 오랜 세월동안 동네 상권에 자리잡고 외부의 큰 영향 없이 자생적 사업을 수행해 왔다. 그러나 제품에 대한 소비자 욕구의 다양화, 삶의 질 향상 등에 따른 사업 환경의 변화는 유통시장에도 많은 변화를 가져오게 되었다. 대기업 지분의 대형할인 마트가 우후죽순처럼 생겨나면서 전통재래시장 및 골목슈퍼 등은 생존의 위기에 직면하게 되었다. 이에 정부에서는 전통시장 및 골목상권 살리기에 많은 예산지원을 하고 있으나 최근 골목상권에 대기업의 SSM(직영점, 가맹점 형태)이 생기면서 대기업과 중소상인 간 갈등과 지역적 마찰이 지속되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대형 SSM의 사업조정을 위한 정책 대안 차원에서 영세중소유통업체의 경쟁요인 분석을 시도하였다.

빅데이터와 인공지능을 중심으로 한 패션산업의 동향 (Trends of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in the Fashion Industry)

  • This study analyzes recent trends in fashion retailing instigated by the fourth industrial revolution and approaches the trends in terms of the convergence of big data and artificial intelligence. The findings are as below. First, companies like 'Edited' and 'Stylumia' offer solutions that support the strategic decisions of fashion brands and fashion retailers by analyzing big data using artificial intelligence. Second, the convergence of big data and artificial intelligence scales personalized service on the web as examples of 'Coded Couture', 'StitchFix', and 'Thread'. Third, the insights gained from artificial intelligence and big data help create new fashion retailing platforms such as 'Botshop' and 'Lyst'. Last, artificial intelligence and big data assist with design. 'Ivyrevel' designs digital fashion, assisted by a macroscopic perspective on fashion trends, market and consumers through the analysis of big data. The Fourth Industrial Revolution brings changes across all industries that will likely accelerate. The fashion industry is also undergoing many changes with advancements in scientific technology. The convergence of big data and artificial intelligence will play a key role in the future of fast-moving industry like fashion, where fickle tastes of consumers are the main drivers.

SSM에 대응한 중소 슈퍼마켓의 경쟁력 강화방안 (How to Increase Small Retailers' Competitiveness Against Super-Supermarket(SSM))

  • 최근 몇 년간 진행된 SSM 급증세는 기업형 유통시스템의 손길이 아직 미치지 않고 남아있던 식료품 분야 소매점의 시장 영역을 SSM이 포섭하는 과정으로 이해할 수 있다. SSM 확산에 따른 중소 상인들의 반발은 노동시장 구조적 측면에서 자영업 부문 노동자들의 생존기반이 위축되고 있음을 체감한 데 따른 것이다. 그러나 보다 실질적이고 장기적인 관점에서 SSM과 중소유통간의 갈등문제는 직접적인 진입규제보다는 중소유통업의 경쟁력 강화를 촉진하는 것이 근본적인 해법이라는 인식으로 효과적으로 중소유통업을 육성해야 한다. 본 연구는 SSM 분쟁상권의 소비자 1700명을 대상으로 한 조사를 통해 중소 슈퍼마켓이 소비자의 만족도를 제고하는 것이 SSM과의 경쟁에 살아남는 길이라는 것을 파악하고, 이를 위한 해법으로 상권 소비자가 즐겨 찾는 상품의 구성과 서비스 제고 방안을 제시하였다. 특히 서비스 제고와 관련하여 소비자가 선호하는 구체적인 서비스를 파악하기 위해 100명의 소비자에게 아이디에이션 서베이를 진행하였고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 300명의 소비자 조사를 통해 중소슈퍼마켓에서 도입하면 소비자 만족도를 크게 높일 수 있는 서비스 대안들을 도출하였다.

온라인에서 대형마트 쇼핑몰의 이미지가 신뢰를 매개로 만족에 미치는 영향 (The Effect on Satisfaction with Mediation of Trust Caused by Hypermarkets' Online Image)

  • Purpose - This study analyzed how image affects customer trust and satisfaction in the online shopping mall market, which is becoming more competitive; future implications for customer management in online shopping malls were presented. Consumers visit and prefer a few shopping mall sites instead of many sites. Consumers do not visit sites that cannot provide trust and satisfaction. Therefore, establishing trust and satisfaction with differentiated image is essential for survival and growth. Specifically analyzing company image, shop image, and brand image, I studied how symbolic image, functional image, and empirical image affect satisfaction mediated by trust in the online shopping malls of hypermarket retailers. Research design, data, and methodology - To investigate the relationship between image and satisfaction of big box retailers' shopping malls in the online market, the study is based on analyzed data from questionnaires involving advanced research. From May 1st to 20th in the year 2014, a questionnaire survey targeting university students using big box retailers' shopping malls in Seoul was conducted. A total of 282 questionnaires were conducted, and 276 questionnaires were used for empirical analysis, excluding invalid data. Using the SPSS 21.0 statistics package, factor analysis and regression analysis were implemented, and effects of image on trust and satisfaction were presented. Results - First, symbolic image can affect satisfaction with only trust. Among 3 image factors, symbolic image exerts the most influence on trust; trust is important in coupling the medium to satisfaction. Second, functional image and empirical image affect satisfaction directly and indirectly with trust. Conclusions - As I classified the image of hyper market retailers' online shopping malls into symbolic, functional, and empirical image, I analyzed the effects of image on trust and satisfaction empirically. The results of the study and strategic implications are as follows. First, symbolic image can affect satisfaction with only trust. Among 3 image factors, symbolic image exerts the most influence on trust; trust is important in coupling the medium to satisfaction. The establishment of a distinctive symbolic image, such as the online shopping mall's loyalty, level of awareness, and special service, is needed. With the establishment of symbolic image, trust and satisfaction could be improved. Second, functional image and empirical image affect satisfaction directly and indirectly with trust. Especially, as functional image affects trust more than empirical image, setting and implementing a strategy for empirical image based on the right price, service, and convenience could raise trust and satisfaction. Empirical image affects trust and satisfaction substantially. Even though empirical image's influence on trust is lower than that of other three image factors, empirical image's influence on satisfaction is higher than symbolic image. Therefore, it requires a strategy for providing joyful use, and information research functions and distinctive use experience are important to improve satisfaction. This study analyzed image characteristics of hyper-market retailers' online shopping malls in the fast-growing online market; future strategic implications were presented.

광학분야에서 소매 판매의 변화 ; 이태리 소매의 경험적 증거 (Retail Changes in the Optical Sector : Empirical evidence from Italian Retailers)

  • 이태리 소매의 변형이 지난 10년 동안 분배의 수준에서 전략적인 구룹의 무게 중심의 빠른 변화가 허용되어져 왔다. 경쟁의 재 디자인에서 그 같은 변화의 관계들은 주요한 외국의 큰 다국적 채인과 작은 독자적인 기업에 의해 특정이된 이태리 소매 전체에 주체자로서 볼 수 있는 가치인 것이다. 분석은 독자적인 소매상들이 국내 시장에서 외국 도매업자들의 전술적인 관점에서 들어오는 것에 대한 관계로서 그들의 경쟁력을 강화하기 위해서 채택된 것이다. 특히 대부분 공통적으로 채택된 전략의 선택은 발생될 수 있는 개발된 모델들의 특성을 시도하는데 분석되어져 있다. 본 연구는 기업의 재산과 독립성에 희생이 없이 경쟁의 회복을 위한 일부 독자적인 소매들에 의해서 채택된 성공할 해결의 가능성을 가지는 실예를 기술하고 있다.
