  • Routing in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is highly challenging because of the dynamic nature of network topology. AntHocNet is a bio-inspired routing protocol for MANETs that mimics the foraging behavior of ants. However, unlike many other MANET routing protocols, the paths constructed in AntHocNet are unidirectional, which requires a separate path setup if a route in the reverse direction is also required. Because most communication sessions are bidirectional, this unidirectional path setup approach is often inefficient. Moreover, AntHocNet suffers from looping problems because of its property of multiple paths and stochastic data routing. In this paper, we propose a modified path setup procedure that constructs bidirectional paths. We also propose solutions to some of the looping problems in AntHocNet. Simulation results show that performance is significantly enhanced in terms of overhead, end-to-end delay, and delivery ratio when loops are prevented. Performance is further improved, in terms of overhead, when bidirectional paths setup is employed.

  • In this paper, a model is proposed to comprehensively evaluate the computational power. The five forces model of computational power solves the problem that the measurement units of different indexes are not unified in the process of computational power evaluation. It combines the bidirectional projection method with TOPSIS method. This model is more scientific and effective in evaluating the comprehensive situation of computational power. Lastly, an example shows the validity and practicability of the model.

  • This paper handles, implementation of multiple access bidirectional serial communications protocol using DC power lines. The normal voltage of the power communication line maintains 24[V] corresponding to level 1 and the host drops the voltage to 12[V] on sending level 0 signal, also the clients normally keeps the line voltage to 24[V] use pull-down circuit to drop the voltage to 12[V] on sending level 1 signal. Host senses the voltage level of the power communication lines and the hosts switches power source from 24[V] to 12[V]. Experimental circuit is designed with one hosts and four clients and verified the power line voltage switching operation depending on the data signal levels on the power line.

  • This paper handles, implementation of multiple access bidirectional serial communications protocol using two common DC power lines, whict are power supply and ground, connecting multiple devices. Communication between the host and the multiple clients are performed using unique packet data with device ID unique to each devices connected on the common power lines. Host initiates data communications by transmitting command packet to the designated client with the client's ID and the client responds by transmitting response packet to the host and in this way, multiple clients and host exchange the packet through the common power lines. The normal voltage of the power communication line maintains 24V corresponding to level 1 and the host drops the voltage to 12V on sending level 0 signal, also the clients normally keeps the line voltage to 24V use pull-down circuit to drop the voltage to 12V on sending level 1 signal. Power supply originates from the host, the host senses the voltage level of the power communication lines and when the clients activates pull down circuit to send level 0 signal and the voltage drops to 12V, the hosts switches power source from 24V to 12V. Also, when clients deactivate pull down circuit to send level 1 signal, the host senses the voltage increase and switches the power source from 12V to 24V. Experimental circuit is designed with one hosts and four clients and verified the power line voltage switching operation depending on the data signal levels on the power line. The proposed research result can be applied to two wire power communications system with one host and multiple low current consumption clients.

  • Two-way relay channel is a bidirectional cooperative communication channel that two terminals communicate each other with the help of a relay. In the previous cooperative communication schemes, a relay uses two divided resources for bidirectional transmission. When a network coding is used at a relay, the relay can transmit bidirectional data to two terminals simultaneously using one resource only. Thus the throughput of this scheme is greater than that of the previous scheme. In this paper, we showa two-way cooperative ARQ protocol using network coding and the throughput of this protocol is analyzed using a state diagram.

  • In this paper, we investigate how the IEEE 802.16 based wireless system can adopt the network coding. To avoid the problem of overhearing, we focus on the bidirectional traffic, where each end node exchanges network coded data over a relay node. The bidirectional traffic is usually observed in Internet, where TCP makes congestion control and error recovery based on the acknowledgement from the opposite direction. Thus, enhancing the spectral efficiency of wireless Internet through the network coding is expected. Our simulation with realistic radio characteristics and TCP-like traffic shows that the network coding improves the throughput by an average of 36 percent compared to the simple relay case.

  • While the value of unidirectional delay was used as the preference of a node in the previous research on the performance of the leader, this paper proposes the value of bidirectional delay as a preference of a node and analyzies election strategies in the case of the various number of candidates through simulation. We made a comparative study to evaluate the quality of leaders chosen by the bidirectional preference and unidirectional preference in terms of relative error and from the standpoint of the probability of choosing the optimal leader.

  • This paper studied the transmission control protocol over IP network to enhance the performance of the GSO satellite communication networks. The focus of this study is how to reduce the long round trip time and the transmission data rates over satellite link in the bidirectional satellite network. To do it, this study applied the caching and spoofing technology. The spoofing technology is used to reduce the required time for the link connection during communication. The caching technology is to improve the transmission bandwidth efficiency in the high transmission data rate link The tests and measurements in this study was performed in the commercial GSO communication satellite network and the terrestrial Internet network. The results of this paper show that the studied protocol in this paper highly enhance the performance of the bidirectional satellite communication network compare to the using TCP/IP satellite network protocol.

  • In this paper, we maximize the lifetime of a multi-hop path through a cooperative wireless energy sharing scheme between constituent nodes in a wireless multi-hop communication. Considering a bidirectional multi-hop communication environment, we present an optimization problem to maximize path lifetime by adjusting the amount of energy each node needs to share with its neighboring nodes. On the basis of solidarity property, i.e., the lifetime of the multi-hop path is maximized when the lifetimes of all nodes are the same, we convert the considered optimization problem into a linear programming problem and solve it easily. Simulation result shows that the proposed two-way wireless energy sharing method maximizes the path lifetime of multi-hop communications and approximately doubles the path lifetime compared with the one-way energy sharing method.

  • This paper describes the design of a space-division switch which can support a self-healing operation of 2-fiber bidirectional line switched ring in 2.5Gb/s SDH-based transmission system. The switch having a 1.25Gb/s throughput has been designed and implemented with COMPASS tool and 0.87$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS gate-array. The proposed switch is suitable for the quickly self-healing operations when a failure occurs in a 2-fiber bidirectional switched ring composed of ADM transmission systems. The switch is composed of an add/drop control part, a cross-point switch, a frame-phase aligner, processor interface and an unequipped data framer. The test results of the switch adapted to 2.SGb/s SDH-based transmission system, show immediate restoration when a failure occurs.
