Actual Wearing Conditions of Bicycle Wear (자전거 의류 착용실태 조사)

  • This study identifies how people use bicycle wear, complaints about bicycle wear, and functions required for bicycle riding. This survey was conducted with bicycle club members (men and women) in their twenties to sixties who ride bicycles on a regular basis. A total of 373 subjects responded to questionnaires and 326 responses were used for further data analysis. The data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, multiple response analysis, crosstabulation analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The results are as follow: First, the people surveyed were primarily men, young adults and middle-aged people. They ride bicycles mainly to participate in club activities, to exercise, and to spend their spare time with a well-being trend that focuses on leisure and health. Second, they often utilize bicycle wear when they ride bicycles. They are aware of bicycle wear brands. In addition, a majority have purchased bicycle wear that shows a very high awareness of bicycle wear. Third, as for complaints about bicycle wear worn when riding bicycles, a majority of people answered that the waist part of the top pulls up and they feel sore with the bottom part of the pants when riding bicycles for a long time. They also answered that it is inconvenient to put belongings in both tops and pants. Fourth, there is a high demand for safety-related functions for bicycle riding in regards to the functions required for bicycle wear. In addition, a majority of the members showed a customer awareness of functional bicycle wear and intended to purchase bicycle wear equipped with smart functions.

  • This study identified active senior women's wearing and the purchase situation of bicycle wear to develop functional bicycle wear that can satisfy active senior consumers. The survey was conducted for women in their fifties and sixties who ride bicycles on a regular basis. A total of 119 questionnaires were used for data analysis excluding incompletely replied questionnaires. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, frequency analysis and cross analysis. The results are as follows. First, 50's individuals represented 60% of this survey who continuously rodebicycles for 5 years or more. The purpose of riding bicycle was exercise, leisure and club activities. Second, they wore bicycle wear while riding due to activity, functionality and safety. There is also a requirement to manufacture comfortable bicycle wear easy to put on and take off and for old people. Third, considering the purchase situation of bicycle wear, the respondents had difficulties buying bicycle wear due to price. It is necessary to have bicycle wear at a reasonable price. Fourth, the most necessary functionsforbicycle wear materials were ventilation and durability. A major function needed for future developmentwill bethermoregulation.

The Development of Bicycle Wear for New Senior Women (뉴시니어 여성을 위한 자전거의류 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an aesthetic and functional bicycle wear for new senior women in their 50s and 60s. Based on the results of the survey, we developed bicycle wear that is friendly to bicycling posture and reflects the preference of new senior women. The results are as followed: First, emphasis is placed on the simple and functional design of the experimental wear consisting of jacket and pants. Jacket is different from the color scheme with the armhole princess line in order for the waistline to look slim. Pants are designed to hold the leg muscles tightly in order to help reduce the muscle fatigue on the bicycle ride. Second, cutting lines and coloring materials are used for the wearer to look slim and the safety of the wearer is planned to secure by inserting the reflective material along the cutting lines on the bicycle ride. Third, the pattern of the experimental wear is designed in consideration of the riding motion of the bicycle. Jacket is designed to have back length longer than front length as compared to the bicycle wears available on the market. Sewing lines in the armpit are designed to be eliminated in order to move the arms smoothly on the ride. Pants are designed to minimize the seam line in consideration of the movement of muscles and ligaments and the experimental wear is produced by combining the material with the functions of cool comfort and stretch.

Considerable Differences of Body Surface Area in the Preparation of Bicycle Wear (싸이클웨어의 패턴개발을 위한 체표면 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to seek the change of body surface according to cycling motions and to give suggestions to the pattern and spare space between body and wear in each bodily parts to be heavily considered for making the bicycle wear. The cycling motions were analyzed by taking the sequential pictures of cycling covering motion by a digital camera. The experiments with gypsum were toward a woman in her twenties. We draw the line standard of the body's surface, separated their gypsum-replicated fragments of body's surface following the analyses of the change in their lengths. As the motions were made, we decided the degree of the changed length as spare space when compared the erected posture with the cycling posture, presenting the pattern of the cycling wear with the preparation of wears for testing. After that, the essential experiments were conducted toward three cycle players wore our experimental wears. Regards their evaluated appearance, evaluations over three points were obtained from all parameters except the width of front armhole. Accordingly, our experimental wears were remarkably understood as a relatively proper wear as bicycle wear.

The Wearing Evaluation of Bicycle Wear for New Senior Women (뉴시니어 여성을 위한 자전거의류의 착용 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an aesthetic and functional bicycle wear for new senior women in their 50s and 60s. We developed bicycle wear that is friendly to bicycling posture and reflects the preference of new senior women. Both the expert group and the subject group evaluated the appearance, completeness of clothing and motion functionality. The results are as followed: First, in the evaluation result of the expert group regarding the appearance and completeness of clothing, high scores are given to design, materials, color scheme, the trends suitability as well as the appearance with regard to clothing fitness. Second, in the results of the evaluation of the appearance and movement functionality targeting the subject groups, movement functionality was rated higher than appearance. In the case of the appearance evaluation, adhesion of both jacket and pants was rated very highly, which is considered to come from the elasticity of the material. In the functionality evaluation, what were pointed out as inconvenient details in the prior studies were found to be all improved and the sleeves and armpit parts were rated highly. Therefore, the pattern design and the usage of the materials suggested in this study were found to be very suitable in the movement on the ride of bicycle.

Suggestion of the Bicycle Wear Design based on Active Senior Women's Preference (액티브 시니어 여성의 자전거의류 선호에 따른 디자인 제안)

  • This study investigates preferred bicycle wear designs that can satisfy active senior consumers. A survey was conducted on 50-60's women who periodically rode bicycles. The results indicated a preference for slim designs and red colors. Jacket designs preferences were for a tight fit for size tolerance, stand collar style, and elastic band details for cuff styles. Pants design preferences were for a whole band waist belt type with a tight fit style such as leggings in pants silhouette, zipper details on the side line and ankle length. They also preferred styles with pads attached to underpants in the pad style and the part of the back waist in the pocket position. The survey showed four kinds of jacket design drawings on an ordinal scale rating. Results indicated a preference for set-in variation jackets with the red and gray color combination. Finally, we demonstrated bicycle wear design suggestions. The jacket applied different armhole line colors connected to the sleeve to make the waist slimmer; in addition, stretchable material helped improve armpit part functionality.

  • As assessment of quantitative energy expenditure for effective exercise is becoming more important, many researches about the monitoring system for exercise status or result have been actively carried out. In this case, however, bicycle riders feel restrained and uncomfortable because the riders should wear a belt-type electrocardiograph or a watch-type accelerometer or GPS system during the assessment of bicycle exercise. In this study, therefore, an electrocardiograph based on textile electrode was developed for measuring ECG and calculating heart rate from the bicycle rider without feeling restraint, and smartphone application was also developed for monitoring the heart rate.

A Survey on Riding Characteristics and Helmet Wearing Conditions of Bicycle and PMV(Personal Mobility Vehicle) Riders (자전거 및 PMV(Personal Mobility Vehicle) 사용자의 주행 특성 및 헬멧 착용 실태 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions between bicycle and PMV riders so that the basis data necessary for the development of suitable helmets for each group is provided. For this purpose, riding characteristics and helmet wearing conditions of bicycle and PMV users were investigated using online survey method and then the survey results were interpreted by in-depth interview conducted for bicycle and PMV users. The online survey results showed that the PMV group showed shorter driving distance and more driving frequency than bicycle group. This short driving distance was due to the limitation of battery capacity of PMVs. Helmet wearing rate was significantly lower in PMV group than in bicycle group, which was associated with relatively low chances to drive long distance on the motorway. In the PMV group, the 'urban helmets' were mainly used, in which the appearance of helmet was priorized, but in the bicycle group, the 'road cycle helmets' were mainly used, in which the light weight or ventilation were priorized. Urban helmets caused stronger pain and more fitting problems than road cycle helmets because the head shapes of Koreans were not properly applied to the helmet design. Since the fitting problem and pain intensity were the important causes that making PMV users not wear the helmets, it is necessary to develop the urban helmets reflecting the head shapes of Koreans in order to increase the helmet wearing rate of the PMV users.

The Advent of the 19th Century Bicycle and Women's Fashion -Focused on France-

  • This study aimed to examine the changes in women's fashion, focusing on the repercussions that bicycles had on women's life and fashion, centered on France in the 19th century, and then it examines the significance of the period to women's cycling clothing and its contribution to fashion. The research is based on literature and visual materials extracted from 19th century French newspapers, magazines, and posters. As a result of this study, the appearance of bicycles in the 19th century contributed to fashion as follows. First, the need for clothing suitable for outdoor activities promoted development of new designs with practical and functional features. Second, the clothing worn by female cyclists contributed to the introduction and propagation of new clothing, and pioneering wearing trousers. Third, the boom of bicycles in the 1890s led to the expansion of ready-to-wear items in department. The significance of the period to women's cycling clothing in the 19th century France is as follows. First, the era challenged customs and attitudes towards women's bicycle clothing and led to modernization. Second, a new and reasonable clothing design was presented that required a compromise to be accepted by the public. Third, although the clothing reform movement was not active in France, bloomer-style bicycle clothing was popular among fashionable women in Paris, revealing only its visual status as the capital of fashion in the 19th century.

Cycle Wear Functional Design Preference and Demands Based on Gender -Focusing on Cycle Wear Top- (성별에 따른 사이클웨어의 기능적 디자인 선호도와 수요 특성 -사이클웨어 상의를 중심으로-)

  • This study is to understand the problems of cycle wear. Interviews and surveys were done to target male and female cyclists in order to understand the wearing conditions and satisfaction of cycle wearers. A total of 443 surveys were used to analyze demographic information, inconvenience and design preference. The average age of male respondents was 34.45 and females was 33.39. The majority were in their 20s and 30s. As for the bicycle riding time, 41.9% of females cycled in the morning and 39.5% cycled in the evening. For men, 44.7% of males cycled in the evening and 33.3% cycled in the morning. The number of cycle wear owned by female respondents were higher than men. Quick water-absorbent and drying properties were considered as important functionality in cycle wear for 87.8% of males and females. When wearing cycle wear, it was found that females felt more discomfort than males in terms of jersey top length. The study results indicated that cycle wear wearing conditions were different according to gender.
