Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) observations from the Aquarius satellite in the East Sea show large systematic biases mainly caused by the surrounding lands and Radio Frequency Interferences (RFI) along the descending orbits on which the satellite travels from the Asian continent to the East Sea. To develop a technique for correcting the systematic biases unique to the East Sea, the least square regression between in situ observations of salinity and the reanalyzed salinities by HYCOM is first performed. Then monthly mean reanalyzed salinities fitted to the in situ salinities are compared with monthly mean Aquarius salinities to calculate mean biases in $1^{\circ}{\times}1^{\circ}$ boxes. Mean biases in winter (December-March) are found to be considerably larger than those in other seasons possibly caused by the inadequate correction of surface roughness in the sea surrounded by the land, and thus the mean bias corrections are performed using two bias tables. Large negative biases are found in the area near the coast of Japan and in the areas with islands. In the northern East Sea, data sets using the ascending orbit only (SCIA) are chosen for correction because of large RFI errors on the descending orbit (SCID). Resulting mean biases between the reanalysis salinities fitted to in situ observations and the bias corrected Aquarius salinities are less than 0.2 psu in all areas. The corrected mean salinity distributions in March and September demonstrate marked improvements when compared with mean salinities from the World Ocean Atlas (WOA [2005-2012]). In September, salinity distributions based on the corrected Aquarius and on the WOA (2005-2012) show similar distributions of Changjiang Diluted Water (CDW) in the East Sea.
We have studied the realized variance(RV) of intra-day returns and market microstructure noise based on high-frequency stock transaction data for the four largest companies in terms of market capitalization in the KOSPI. First, non-negligible biases are observed for the RV and for the bias-corrected realized variance($RV_{AC_1}$) which is constructed by adjusting RV for the first order autocorrelation in intra-day returns. Bias is more obvious for the RV and the $RV_{AC_1}$ when intra-day returns are sampled more frequently than every 2 minutes. Transaction Time Sampling(TTS) is shown to be better than Calendar Time Sampling(CTS) in terms of biases of the RV and the $RV_{AC_1}$ for the 4 companies. The analysis reveals that market microstructure noise is temporally dependent. Second, by using the Noise-to-Signal Ratio(NSR), we estimate sampling frequencies that are optimal in terms of the Mean Square Errors(MSE) of the RV and the $RV_{AC_1}$. The optimal sampling frequencies are around 200 for RV and is around 5000 for the $RV_{AC_1}$ for all the four stock prices. For the 6 hour transaction period of the Korean stock trading, these correspond to about 2 minutes and 6 seconds.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the meta-analysis on the effects of action observation training on stroke patients' walking. Methods : Domestic databases (DBpia, KISS, NDSL, and RISS) were searched for studies that conducted randomized controlled trials (RCTs) associated with action observation training in adults after stroke. The search outcomes were items associated with the walking function. The 18 studies that were included in the study were analyzed using R meta-analysis. A random-effect model was used for the analysis of the effect size because of the significant heterogeneity among the studies. Sub-group and meta-regression analysis were also used. Egger's regression test was conducted to analyze the publishing bias. Cumulative meta-analysis and sensitivity analysis were also done to analyze a data error. Results : The mean effect size was 2.77. The sub-group analysis showed a statistical difference in the number of training sessions per week. No statistically significant difference was found in the meta-regression analysis. Publishing bias was found in the data, but the results of the trim-and-fill method showed that such bias did not affect the obtained data. Also, the cumulative meta-analysis and sensitivity analysis showed no data errors. Conclusion : The meta-analysis of the studies that conducted randomized clinical trials revealed that action observation training effectively improved walking of the chronic stroke patients.
Objectives: To compare the effectiveness and safety of East Asian traditional medicine treatments (EATMT) versus conventional management in patients following heart valve replacement surgery. Methods: We searched several databases, including the Korean Studies Information Service System, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Citation Information by NII. The search range included randomized controlled trials from each first issue until June 27, 2021. Two review authors independently extracted the data. We assessed the risk of systematic errors by evaluating risk domains using the "Risk of bias" tool. Results: We included 5 trials in the review. In the EATMT, the investigators reported significant improvements in reshaping of the heart structure: left ventricular end diastolic diameter (MD -4.43, 95% CI -6.06 to -2.79; 130 participants; 2 studies; high evidence). Comparisons with usual care revealed a significant decrease in gastrointestinal complications rate (OR 0.30, 95% CI 0.20 to 0.47; 503 participants; 2 studies; high evidence). We assessed 4 studies as having a low risk of bias and 1 study as having a high risk of bias. Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that East Asian traditional medicine interventions may be effective in preventing and alleviating complications, but we found evidence of important trade-offs between known benefits and known adverse effects in cardiac dysfunction and inflammation following heart valve replacement. Consequently, additional high-quality studies should be conducted.
We consider some problems of the Modified SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Test) method for fault detection and isolation of inertial redundant sensor systems and propose an Advanced SPRT method to solve the problems of the Modified SPRT method. One problem of the Modified SPRT method to apply to inertial sensor system comes from the effect of inertial sensor errors such as misalignment, scale factor error and sensor bias in the parity vector, which make the Modified SPRT method hard to be applicable. The other problem is due to the correlation of parity vector components which may induce false alarm. We use a two-stage Kalman filter to remove effects of the inertial sensor errors and propose the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector which removes the effect of correlation of parity vector components. The Advanced SPRT method is derived form the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector. Some simulation results are presented to show the usefulness of the Advanced SPRT method to redundant inertial sensor systems.
Uncertainty introduced by a cross-correlation algorithm based on FFT has been investigated using PIV standard images. The standard images were generated by the Monte Carlo simulation method. Both bias and random errors from the velocity vector have been analyzed with regard to the particle diameter, displacement, and the number of particles. The uncertainty of velocity is evaluated based upon the IS0/IEC standard. As a result, a total error of $0.26\%$ is included in the PIV cross-correlation algorithm. In addition, the uncertainty budget is presented, where the effect of the above three variables is examined. According to the budget, the variation of the number of particles within the interrogation window mainly contributes to the combined standard uncertainty of the real measured velocity field when excluding the effect of errors by the experiments itself. Finally, the expanded uncertainty is found to be about $12\%$ at the $95\%$ confidence level.

There are several applications and error analysis methods using GPS(Global Positioning System) In most analysis positioning and timing errors are represented as the multiplication of DOP(Dilution Of Precision) and measurement errors, which are affected by the receiver and measurement type. Therefore, lots of DOPs are defined and used to analyze and predict the performance of positioning and timing systems. In this paper, the relationships between these DOPs are investigated in detail, The relationships between GDOP(Geometric DOP), PDOP(Position DOP) and TDOP(Time DOP) in the absolute positioning are de-rived. Using these relationships, the affect of clock bias is analyzed. The relationships between RGDOP(Relative DOP) and PDOP are also derived in relative positioning where the single difference and double dif-ference techniques are used. From the results, it is expected that using the common clock will give better performance when the single difference technique is used while the effects of clock is eliminate when the double difference technique is used. Finally, the error analyses of dual frequency receivers show that the narrow lane measurements give more accurate results than wide line of or L1. L2 independent measurements.
In this article, various aspects of errors involved in the measurement of TVOC were examined as part of study to develop the indoor pollution indices. For this purpose, TVOC term was computed by two different calibration approaches, i.e., by assuming all VOC are detected in the same manner as toluene and by summing up as many individual VOC as possible. The results of our study indicate that the common, toluene-based method suffers from errors inherent in the development of such theory. Consequently, it is concluded that more research efforts have to be directed to the improvement of such concept as TVOC.
In order to predict the shear strengths of reinforced concrete beams, many deterministic models have been developed based on rules of mechanics and on experimental test results. While the constant and variable angle truss models are known to provide reliable bases and to give reasonable predictions for the shear strengths of members with shear reinforcement, in the case of members without shear reinforcement, even advanced models with complicated procedures may show lack of accuracy or lead to fairly different predictions from other similar models. For this reason, many research efforts have been made for more accurate predictions, which resulted in important recent publications. This paper develops probabilistic shear strength models for reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement based on deterministic shear strength models, understanding of shear transfer mechanisms and influential parameters, and experimental test results reported in the literature. Using a Bayesian parameter estimation method, the biases of base deterministic models are identified as algebraic functions of input parameters and the errors of the developed models remaining after the bias-correction are quantified in a stochastic manner. The proposed probabilistic models predict the shear strengths with improved accuracy and help incorporate the model uncertainties into vulnerability estimations and risk-quantified designs.
Structural integrity can be accessed from dynamic deformations of structures. Moreover, dynamic deformations can be acquired from non-contact sensors such as video cameras. Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) algorithm is one of the commonly used methods for motion tracking. However, averaging throughout the extracted features would induce bias in the measurement. In addition, pixel-wise measurements can be converted to physical units through camera intrinsic. Still, the depth information is unreachable without prior knowledge of the space information. The assigned homogeneous coordinates would then mismatch manually selected feature points, resulting in measurement errors during coordinate transformation. In this study, a two-stage optimization method for video-based measurements is proposed. The manually selected feature points are first optimized by minimizing the errors compared with the homogeneous coordinate. Then, the optimized points are utilized for the KLT algorithm to extract displacements through inverse projection. Two additional criteria are employed to eliminate outliers from KLT, resulting in more reliable displacement responses. The second-stage optimization subsequently fine-tunes the geometry of the selected coordinates. The optimization process also considers the number of interpolation points at different depths of an image to reduce the effect of out-of-plane motions. As a result, the proposed method is numerically investigated by using a truss bridge as a physics-based graphic model (PBGM) to extract high-accuracy displacements from recorded videos under various capturing angles and structural conditions.
