  • Vertical mixing in the ocean affects the formation of water masses as well as the vertical distribution of nutrients and dissolved substances. this study is to investigate the effect of stability on the intensity of vertical transfer in the case of shallow and straitfied channel. It is found that the relation of the stability and vertical turbulent diffusion is given by K$\sub$z/ = -${\beta}$-(c+${\beta}$) / ${\alpha}$(E-1/${\alpha}$) where K$\sub$z/ and E denotes the vertical turbulent diffusion coefficient and stability, respectively. The empirical coefficients ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and c depend on the magnitude of vertical components and stability, i.e., through thermocline intensity. The study indicates that the diffusivity of the surface mixed layer is (K$\sub$z/)=300∼1,200$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec, the thermocline layer is (K$\sub$z/)= 50∼200$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec and the cold layer is (K$\sub$z/)=200∼600$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec based on near- minimum least-squares error estimates from the regression analysis. An important result of our study comes out that the model is in accordance with the general trends of the effect of stability on the vertical turbulent diffusion coefficients in the case of shallow and strongly stratified channel.

  • When the multicollinearity presents in the standard linear regression model, ridge regression might be used to mitigate the effects of collinearity. As the prediction-oriented criterion, the integrated mean sqare error criterion $J_w(k)$ was introduced by Lim, Choi & Park(1980). By noting the equivalent relationship between the $C_k$ criterion and $J_w(k)$ with a special choice of weight function $W(x)$, we propose a more reasonable selection rule of k w.r.t. the $C_k$ criterion than that given in Myers(1986). Next, to find the $\beta(k)$ which behaves reasonably well w.r.t. competing criteria, we adopt the minimax principle in the sense of maximizing the worst relative efficiency of k among competing criteria.

  • This study examines regression modeling method using zero-inflated distribution in relation to estimation of exposure distribution required in advertisement media planning. Exposure distribution is the percentage of audiences that are exposed each time the ad is repeated. Such an exposure distribution plays a very important role in providing basic information necessary for calculating various indicators for quantitatively measuring the advertising effect. Especially, due to the decrease of advertising price and the spread of various media, the frequency of the advertisement or the broadcasting of specific advertisements has been greatly increased compared to the past. As a result, the frequency of exposure is relatively decreasing. In this situation, the number of individuals who are not exposed to the media, that is, are not exposed to advertising structurally is increasing. This research proposes advertising exposure distribution models using a zero-inflated regression model, and conducts a comparative study using actual cases.
