A Study on the Bending Fatigue Strength of Sintering Spur Gear (소결치차의 피로강도에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important to have exact informations on the properties and characteristics of the sintering material as a new material of machine elements. To study the sintering spur gear and the sintering specimen to be consisted of Fe-Cu-C, the constant stress amplitude fatigue test is performed by using an electrohydrolic survo-controlled pulsating tester. Consequently, the S-N curves are obtained and the fatigue strength is compared with flaw depth. Accordingly, this study presents the fatigue strength of sintering spur gears, the critical notch depth of sintering materials and the effects of flaw depth on the bending fatigue strength.

Development of Bevel Gear by Powder Forging Process (분말단조에 의한 베벨기어의 성형 기술 연구)

  • The powder forging process is an attractive manufacturing route for bevel gears. It offers beneficial material utilization and the minimization of finishing operations over that of conventional hot forging. The paper describes the process conditions for the powder forging of bevel gear, for example, powder alloy design, preform design, deformation of sintered preform, forging processes. The characteristics of prototype gear are investigated with microstructure, the density distribution, surface roughness of tooth, bending strength test of tooth, etc. The results of the bending strength test may prove the mechanical properties of powder forged gear.

  • The characteristics of Weibull distribution are investigated as a function of shape parameter. The statistical estimation methods of the shape parameter and statistical comparison methods of two or more shape parameters are studied. Assuming Weibull distribution, statistical analysis of bending-strength data of alumina titanium carbide ceramic matrix composites machined two different methods are performed.

  • For the analysis of Kirchhoff plate bending problems, a new meshless method is implemented. For the satisfaction of the C¹ continuity condition in which the first derivative is treated as another primary variable, Hermite interpolation is enforced on standard reproducing kernel particle method. In order to impose essential boundary conditions on solving C¹ continuity problems, shape function modifications are adopted. Through numerical tests, the characteristics and accuracy of the HRKPM are investigated and compared with the finite element analysis. By this implementation, it is shown that high accuracy is achieved by using HRKPM fur solving Kirchhoff plate bending problems.

  • Cracking in ceramics poses a serious threat to the safety of components. In the study of crack healing, SiO2 was the healingmaterial. In this study, TiO2 was added to improve the strength of ceramics, and SiO2 was added or coated to heal cracking. These show effectiveness by heat treatment. The bending strength increased by adding TiO2 and SiO2, and the frictioncoefficient and wear loss were smaller than that of the non-addition.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a guidance to select proper muslin through investigating fabric characteristics. The structural and physical properties of muslin and top fabric samples were tested by KES-FB system and other testers. And in order to examine the relation between fabric characteristics and the shape of garments, wearing tests were done with jackets made of those samples. As a result, bending rigidity(B), bending hysteresis(2HB), shear stiffness(G), shear hysteresis at=0.5(2HG), shear hysteresis at=5(2HG5), stiffness, cloth count/5cm, weight, thickness were extracted as the key factors affecting the appearance of garments. To have similar appearance, all of these should be counted. After standardizing, we calculate the variance between top cloth and muslin. And from this we could get the range that the proper muslin should be included. The ranges were as follows: Bending rigidity(B): within 0.024g.$\textrm{cm}^2$/cm(0.3$\sigma$); Shear stiffness(G): within 2.21g/cm.degree(1.3$\sigma$) Weight: within 9.33mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$(18$\sigma$); Thickness: within 0.20mm(1.8$\sigma$)

  • Various kinds of shear connector such as headed stud, channel, perforated steel plate and others are commonly used to transfer stress and present composite performance in composite structures, and many researches have been conducted to improve the characteristics of different types of shear connectors. It is focused in this study on the bending performance of steel pipe pile cap with the open type perforated shear connector for the composite connection to the spread footing. Nonlinear analysis was conducted, using ABAQUS, a finite element analysis program, to obtain information for determining the characteristics of the structure and to allow various parametric analysis for bending performance of steel pipe pile cap with the open perforated shear connector.

Optical Characteristics of a Flexible Back-Light Unit with Plasma Discharge Clusters

  • A flexible back-light unit (FBLU) is fabricated by embedding plasma discharge clusters in a flexible polymer matrix. The brightness uniformity of an FBLU was measured for various combinations of optical sheets and compared with the simulated results for various bending angles. A gap between light sources causes distinctive integrated brightness curves which have two inflection points depending on bending angle. The brightness distribution of a simulated BLU was in good agreement with that of an actual plasma BLU except for a dark area that appeared at the center of the simulated BLU. The real and simulated BLUs both clearly showed an angle dependency caused by mirror images located between point light sources. On the basis of these results, it is suggested that these mirror-like images could be a major factor in determining the characteristics of FBLUs.

  • The paper aims to design and verify tearing tube type energy absorption device applied in tram to ensure safety in case of collision accident. Energy capacity of tearing tube is determinated based on EN15227 and Standard Collision Scenarios Criterion in Detail in Republic of Korea. Tearing tube is designed based on theoretical model suggested by X.Huang et al. and assumption by T.Y. Reddy et al. Real scale collision tests are conducted to analyze the energy absorption characteristics and deformation mode. Bending of curl tips is absorbed collision energy when curl tips and tube body are contacted to each other from the tests and we suggest and include the formula on bending of curl tips in theoretical model.

  • In this study, the effect of sizing on the physical and mechanical characteristics of Hansan ramie was studied. 2 kinds of Hansan ramie were used for this study and one kind of the chinese ramie was also used for comparing with the characteristics of Hansan ramies. The following results were obtained from this experimental study. The wrinkle recovery angle was gradually reduced according to the increasing of the concentration of sizing agent. As the size agent could easily penetrate between the thick yarms, the effect of sizing on the wrinkle recovery angle was evident on the Chinese and Hansan coarse ramie. The result of KES-F system showed that the sizing affected much on the bending properties and shear properties. As the size concentration was increased the shear properties were increased more evidently on the Chinese and Hansan coarse ramie. The result of KES-F system showed that the sizing affected much on the bending properties and shear properties. As the size concentration was increased the shear properties were increased more evidently than the bending properties. The other mechanical properties didn't changed much by sizing. The calculated primary hand value also showed that the ramie became more stiff after sizing.
