Gastrointestinal endoscopy's carbon footprint

  • Climate change is a global emergency. Consequently, current global targets to combat the climate crisis include reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and keeping global temperature increases below 1.5 ℃. In 2014, the healthcare carbon footprint was 5.5% of the total national footprint. Gastrointestinal endoscopy (GIE) has a large carbon footprint compared to other procedures performed in healthcare facilities. GIE was identified as the third largest generator of medical waste in healthcare facilities for the following reasons: (1) GIE is associated with high case volumes, (2) GIE patients and relatives travel frequently, (3) GIE involves the use of many nonrenewable wastes, (4) single-use devices are used during GIE, and (5) GIE is frequently reprocessed. Immediate actions to reduce the environmental impact of GIE include: (1) adhering to guidelines, (2) implementing audit strategies to determine the appropriateness of GIE, (3) avoiding unnecessary procedures, (4) using medication rationally, (4) digitalization, (5) telemedicine, (6) critical pathways, (7) outpatient procedures, (8) adequate waste management, and (9) minimizing single-use devices. In addition, sustainable infrastructure for endoscopy units, using renewable energy, and 3R (reduce, reuse, and recycle) programs are necessary to reduce the impact of GIE on the climate crisis. Consequently, healthcare providers need to work together to achieve a more sustainable future. Therefore, strategies must be implemented to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the healthcare field, especially from GIE, by 2050.

  • As the temperature of liquid under negative pressure approaches the absolute zero, the nucleation process due to thermal fluctuations hardly occurs. Instead of this mechanism, quantum fluctuations may lead the formation of nucleus for new phase in metastable state. In this study, the thermal as well as quantum nucleation bubble in liquid helium under negative pressure was investigated theoretically. The energy barrier against nucleation was estimated by molecular interaction due to the Londom dispersion force. It is shown that the phase transition from liquid to vapor in is possible due to the quantum tunneling below 0.2 K for Helium-4 and 0.1 K for Helium-3, at negative pressures close to the ideal tensile strength at which every liquid molecules become bubbles simultaneously.

  • Speech synthesis coding is classified into three categories: waveform coding, source coding and hybrid coding. To obtain the synthetic speech with high quality, the synthesis by waveform coding is desired. However, it is difficult to apply waveform coding to synthesis by syllable or phoneme unit, because it does not divide the speech into excitation and formant component. Thus it is required to alter the excitation in waveform coding for applying waveform coding to synthesis by rule. In this paper we propose a new pitch alteration method that minimizes the spectrum distortion by using the behavior of cepstrum. This method splits the spectrum of speech signal into excitation spectrum and formant spectrum and transforms the excitation spectrum into cepstrum domain. The pitch of excitation cepstrum is altered by zero insertion or zero deletion and the pitch altered spectrum is reconstructed in spectrum domain. As a result of performance test, the average spectrum distortion was below 2.29%.

Characteristics of the SFCL by turn-ratio of three-phase transformer

  • According to the increase of electric consumption nowadays, power system becomes complicated. Due to this, the size of single line-to-ground fault from power system also increases to have many problems. In order to resolve these problems effectively, an Superconducting Fault Current Limiter(SFCL) was proposed and continuous study has been done. In this paper, an SFCL was combined to the neutral line of a transformer. An superconductivity has the characteristics of zero resistance below critical temperature. because of this, SFCL has nearly zero resistance. so we connecting SFCL to neutral line will not only have any loss in the normal operation but also have the less burden of electric power because of only limiting the initial fault current. We analyzed the characteristics of current, voltage according to the changes of turn ratio of 3 phase system in case of combinations of an SFCL to the neutral line. It was confirmed that the limiting rate of initial fault current by the increase of turn ratio was reduced.

  • This study aims to describe the acoustic characteristics of Korean nasal sounds making use of the notion of pole and zero. In case of [m], the 1st and 4th formant almost remains as the original shape respectively, on the contrary, the 2nd and 3rd formant were observed as a variable cluster together. Alveolar [n] shows that the 3rd and 4th formant make a variable cluster with their antiformant(zero), however, the 1st and 2nd formant keep the static shape of their on. Velar [$\eta$] has 4 formants below 2900 Hz and the 3rd and 4th formant constitute a variable cluster together as does the case [n]. With respect to the energy distribution in case of [n] and [$\eta$], the energy value diminishes from Fl up to F3 continuously but augments in F4. The [m] shows that in the region of Fl-F2 does the energy fall down and rise from F3 to above.

  • A 2-dimensional numerical analysis is presented for thermal-electron heat conduction effects upon the electron transport and the drain current-voltage characteristics of submicron GaAs MESFETs, based on the use of a nonstationary hydrodynamic transport model. It is shown that for submicron GaAs MESFETs, electron heat conduction effects are significant on their internal electronic properties and also drain current-voltage characteristics. Due to electron heat conduction effects, the electron energy is greatly one-djmensionalized over the entire device region. Also, the drain current decreases continuously with increasing thermal conductivity in the saturation region of large drain voltages above 1 V. However, the opposite trend is observed in the linear region of small drain voltages below 1 V. Accordingly, for a large thermal conductivity, negative differential resistance drain current characteristics are observed with a pronounced peak of current at the drain voltage of 1 V. On the contrary, for zero thermal conductivity, a Gunn oscillation characteristic is observed at drain voltages above 2 V under a zero gate bias condition.

  • This study investigate the hydration heat history with variation of surface insulating material in cold weather concreting. According to the results, the temperature of concrete lowers below zero in 24hours, so early frost damage occurs in the case of exposure and 1 fold bubble sheet, but the lowest temperature keeps above zero, so a adiabatic effect is very favorable in the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. Compressive strength of core specimen at 7 and 28 days is highest In the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. But, considering convenience of construction and economical efficiency, it is thought that the most effective surface insulating material is 1 fold bubble sheet +blanket.

  • Speech synthesis can classify by synthesis way, that is waveform coding, source coding and mixture coding. Specially, waveform coding is suitable for high quality synthesis. However, it is not desirable by synthesis techniques of syllable or phoneme unit because it do not separate and handles excitation and formant part. Therefore, there is a need for pitch alteration method applied in synthesis by the rule in waveform coding. This study propose about pitch alteration method that use spectrum scaling after do to flatten spectra by subband linear approximation to minimize spectrum distortion. This paper show evaluation whether show excellency of some measure compared with LPC, Cepstrum, lifter function and method that propose. estimation method seeks distribution of each flattened signal and measured degree of flattened spectra Signal flattened is normalized, So that highest point amounts to zero, and distribution of signal ,whose average is zero, is calculated. this show result that measure the spectrum distortion rate to estimate performance of method that propose. The average spectrum distortion rate was kept below the average 2.12%, so the method that propose is superiors than existent method.

  • A nonlinear algebraic equation f(x) = 0 is considered to find a root with integer multiplicity $m{\geq}1$. A variant of Newton-secant method for a multiple root is proposed below: for n = 0, 1, $2{\cdots}$ $$x_{n+1}=x_n-\frac{f(x_n)^2}{f^{\prime}(x_n)\{f(x_n)-{\lambda}f(x_n-\frac{f(x_n)}{f^{\prime}(x_n)})\}$$, $$\lambda=\{_{1,\;if\;m=1.}^{(\frac{m}{m-1})^{m-1},\;if\;m{\geq}2$$ It is shown that the method has third-order convergence and its asymptotic error constant is expressed in terms of m. Numerical examples successfully verified the proposed scheme with high-precision Mathematica programming.

도로포장 현장계측 온도데이터를 이용한 도로포장체의 동결깊이 연구 (A Study on The Frost Penetration Depth of Pavement with Field Temperature Data)

  • 포장의 동결깊이는 30년간의 기온자료를 분석하여 만든 동결지수를 근거로 하여 동상방지층의 두께를 결정한다. 본 연구에서의 현장계측 지역은 동결지수에 따라 동결지수 550~650$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일, 450~550$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일, 350~450$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일로 구분하여 지역을 선정하였고, 각 지역별로 절토부, 절성경계부, 저성토부(2m 이하 성토부) 구간으로 단면을 구분하였다. 각 단면에 동상방지층 유 무를 구분하여 포장층별로 계측기(온도, 함수비)를 설치하고 데이터를 수집하였다. 현장 모니터링 시스템을 통하여 수집된 데이터 분석을 통하여 포장된 도로의 동결깊이를 결정하는데 이용할 수 있다. 연구 결과, 동상방지층이 없을 경우 동결지수 550~650$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일 지역에서는 대기온도에 따라 겨울철 노상층의 온도가 $0^{\circ}C$ 이하로 나타났고, 동결지수 450~550$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일 지역에서는 지역별로 상이했으며, 동결지수 350~450$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$일 지역에서는 동상방지층이 없어도 노상층의 온도가 $0^{\circ}C$ 이하로 나타나지 않았다. 또한, 포장 단면별로 동결깊이를 비교한 결과 대기온도에 따라 동결깊이는 절토부가 가장 높았으며, 절성경계부, 저성토부 순으로 단면별 차이가 나타났다.
