  • Nature of phase transition in $LaVO_3$ has been studied using X-ray diffraction, SQUID magnetometer, and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy with 1% of $^{57}Fe$ doped sample. The crystal structure was orthorhombic with space group Pnma. Antiferromagnetic phase transition temperature $T_N$ was 140K, below which a weak ferromagnetic trace has been found. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra below $T_N$ were single set of hyperfine sextet, which enabled us to discard the possibility of two inequivalent magnetic sites or uncompensated antiferromagnetism. Hyperfine magnetic field abruptly disappeared as low as about 90K, much below $T_N$.

  • A micro-pulse LIDAR system (MPL) was employed to measure the aerosol over Pudong, Shanghai from July 2008 to January 2009. Based on Fernald method, aerosol optical variables such as extinction coefficient were retrieved and analyzed. Results show that aerosol exists mainly in low layers; aerosol loading reaches its maximum in the afternoon, and then decreases with time until its minimum at night. Most of the aerosol concentrates in the layer below 3 km, and optical extinction coefficient in the layer below 2 km contributes 84.25% of that below 6 km. Two extinction coefficient peaks appear in the near surface layer up to 500 m and in the level around 1000 m. Aerosol extinction coefficient shows a seasonal downward trend from summer to winter.

  • A worst-case estimate of an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is obtained for small multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mobile antennas operating below 1 GHz. The worst-case estimate is numerically derived in this paper using spherical and exponential wave functions. The derived result confirms that the worst-case ECC can be easily obtained from the rotation angle between the radiation patterns of two MIMO elements, which are attained directly from the amplitude of 2D electric field patterns without any additional phase and polarization information. As a practical example, MIMO mobile antennas with different antenna element arrangements are compared to verify the validity of the proposed worst-case estimate. Moreover, based on these analyses, we also suggest an effective approach to reduce the ECC of a small MIMO mobile antenna operating below 1 GHz by properly locating the antenna elements to make the radiation patterns perpendicular to each other.

  • This study was designed to investigate the malnutrition rate with anthropometric indices for the nutrient intake of 74 children aged 4-12 years old in three child welfare institutions in Cheonan city. The average heights and weights of the children are much lower than the Korean average height and weight. The mean BMI is $17.0{\pm}1.53$. In terms of height-for-age, 16.0% of the samples belong to below -2 standard deviation from the mean of the reference group. In terms of weight-for-age, 16.0% of the children belong to below -2 standard deviation. In terms of weight-for-height, 4.0% of the children belong to below -2 standard deviation. The standard deviation scores(Wt/Age, Ht/Age) indicate negative signs for seventy to eighty percent of the children. This is due to the lower consumption of the important nutrients that children consumed and almost all nutrients much less than the recommended daily allowances. Special nutrition welfare policies and programs targcting child welfare institutions should be developed to provide adequate nutrition for children in residential care.

  • For the purpose of ascertaining the status of physical growth and health status of the University students, a intensive survey was conducted by the authors towards a total of 2,638(male; 2,228, female; 410) who passed the written entrance examination at the Seoul National University. The items included the measurements on physical growth, various physical indixes, visual acuity, tuberculosis and dental status. The findings and results can be summarized as follows: 1. Physical Growth No significant difference was found in the physical growth between classes(literature and science) and by ages. In males, the means of body height, body weight, chest-girth and sittingheight were $168.0{\pm}5.07cm,\;55.7{\pm}5.71kg,\;85.8{\pm}4.4cm\;and\;91.5{\pm}2.21cm$, respectively. In females, these were $157.4{\pm}4.57\;cm,\;00.4{\pm}5.75kg,\;80.3{\pm}4.51cm\;and\;86.1{\pm}3.30cm$, respectively. Basing on the above measurements several physical indixes were calculated as follows ; Relative body weight 33.15 in males and 32.02 in females. Relative chest-girth 51.07 and 51.01, relative sitting-height 54.46 and 54.70 $R\ddot{o}hrer$ index 1.00 and 1.02, Kaup index 1.97 and 2.04, Vervaeck index 83.63 and 83.03, and Pelidisi index 89.94 and 92.45. 2. In males those of 0.8 and below in corrected vision occupied 12.1% and 10.3%, while in females 12.9% and 12.2%, respectively. More students of abnormal vision were found among science classes and the proportions of corrected vision were 38.9% and 37.4% in males, and 33.9% and 33.2% in females, respectively. 3. Tuberculosis Among the total, 55 students were diagnosed as tuberculosis, of whom 50 were minimal cases, 2 were moderately advanced cases and 3 were far advanced cases. 4. • Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein that is present in colostrum, milk, and other body secretions. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of lactoferrin hydrolysates (LHs) on the production of immunomodulatory factors, including inflammatory related cytokines. The nuclear factor (NF)-κB reporter assay using human embryonic kidney 293 cells (HEK-293) revealed that NF-κB activity was significantly decreased by 1, 50, and 100 ㎍/mL of LH and the fractions above and below the 10 kDa LH. The mRNA expression of interferon (IFN)-γ in rat basophilic leukemia mast cells (RBL-2H3) treated with the fraction above the 10 kDa LH decreased in a dose-dependent manner, but the cells treated with LH and the fraction below the 10 kDa LH showed an increased expression of IFN-γ in a dose-dependent manner. The level of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression decreased dose-dependently in RBL-2H3 cells treated with LH and the fraction above the 10 kDa LH, but the cells treated with the fraction below the 10 kDa LH showed an increased COX-2 expression in a dose-dependent manner. The mRNA expression of interleukin (IL)-4) was dose-dependently decreased by the fraction below the 10 kDa LH in human mast cells (HMC-1). The mRNA expressions of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and IL-6 were significantly dose-dependently decreased by the fractions above and below the 10 kDa LH, but was dose-dependently increased by LH. The production of IL-4 was a little increased by the fraction above the 10 kDa LH compared to the positive control, but was decreased with LH and the fraction below the 10 kDa LH in HMC-1 cells. It was concluded that LF hydrolysates had an immunomodulating effect on anti-, pro-inflammatory and anti-allergic reactions.

  • We perform degenerate and nondegenerate pump-probe experiments on bulk GaAs at 100 K below the band gap. We mostly observe a negative differential transmission signal both in the degenerate and nondegenerate experiments. We interpret our signal as due to two-photon absorption. This negative signal has a different origin from the normally considered band gap renormalization for resonant excitations.

  • We consider the parabolic evolution differential equation such as heat equation and porus-medium equation on a Riemannian manifold M whose Ricci curvature is bounded below by $-(n-1)k^2$ and bounded below by 0 on some amount of M. We derive some bounds of differential quantities for a positive solution and some inequalities which resemble Harnack inequalities.

  • This study investigated to the stability of open car parks below $600^{\circ}C$, as to predict behavior of bare FR steel structure noosed to fire. Especially, This study evaluated deformation of steel structure members of open car parks, considering change of material property by temperature. From the numerical analysis, we know the fact that the deformations comparing of standard values are stable to use the FR steel below 600 $^{\circ}C$ in open car parks plan
