  • The main objectives of this work were to investigate the effects of the nonlinear behavior of the isolation pads on the seismic response of bridges with rubber bearings, and to identify when base isolation improved their seismic performance. To achieve these objectives a parametric study was conducted designing a set of bridges for three different soil types and varying the number of spans, span lengths, and pier heights. The seismic responses (accelerations, displacements and pier seismic forces) were evaluated for three different structural models subjected to three earthquakes with different dynamic characteristics. The first represented bridges without base isolation; the second corresponded to the same bridges including now rubber bearings as an isolation system, with linear elastic behavior that shifted the natural period of the bridge by a factor of 2 to 4. In the third model the seismic response of bridges supported on lead-Rubber bearings was studied accounting for the nonlinear behavior of the lead. The results show clearly the importance of the nonlinear behavior on the seismic performance of the bridges.

  • With the increase of using Internet in clothing shopping, the gathering of customer information based on online research is emphasized. The purposes of this paper summarized the several aspects of on-line research as new data collection methods and investigate some characteristics through reviewing extant literature on online research. We explored a conceptual model of response behavior for the purpose of the literature in a manner which enhance a deeper understanding of online response behavior. This model was focused on exchange paradigm instead of a "help-the-sponsor" approach. The proposed conceptual framework included questionnaire design, response incentive, commitment, convenience, expertise, response behavior (satisfaction and attitude), and online research performance.

  • The collapse of civil infrastructure due to natural disasters results in financial losses and many casualties. In particular, the recent increase in earthquake activities has highlighted on the importance of assessing the seismic performance and predicting the seismic risk of a structure. However, the nonlinear behavior of a structure and the uncertainty in ground motion complicate the accurate seismic response prediction of a structure. Artificial intelligence can overcome these limitations to reasonably predict the nonlinear behavior of structures. In this study, a deep learning-based algorithm was developed to estimate the time-history seismic response of bridge structures. The proposed deep neural network was trained using structural and ground motion parameters. The performance of the seismic response prediction algorithm showed the similar phase and magnitude to those of the time-history analysis in a single-degree-of-freedom system that exhibits nonlinear behavior as a main structural element. Then, the proposed algorithm was expanded to predict the seismic response and fragility prediction of a bridge system. The proposed deep neural network reasonably predicted the nonlinear seismic behavior of piers and bearings for approximately 93% and 87% of the test dataset, respectively. The results of the study also demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can be utilized to assess the seismic fragility of bridge components and system.

  • As structure and the waterproofing material are compressed through the backfilling process after the waterproofing material is installed on the underground structure at the actual site, there is a difference between the behavioral response force of the waterproofing material in the compressed state and the behavioral response force in the non-constrained state. In this regard, we will analyze the limitations of the current structural behavioral response evaluation and suggest an improvement plan so that the future test and evaluation environment can be evaluated under conditions similar to the field.

  • The behavior of an opening and the performance of support system depend upon the load-deformation characteristics of ground and support as well as of the manner and of timing of support installation. The load-deformation characteristics of ground and support are derived by the interaction between ground and support. The interaction between ground and support is qualitatively illustrated by a ground response curve. The behavior of an opening and the performance of support system depend upon the load-deformation characteristics of ground and support as well as of the manner and of timing of support installation. The interaction between ground and support is qualitatively illustrated by a ground response curve. The convergence-confinement method don't need the basic assumptions for a mathematical model. Also This is applicable to general tunnel. Consequently the stability of tunnel must be qualitatively investigated by a ground response curve and quantitatively adjudged by a numerical analysis for the reasonable design of tunnel.

  • Bridge columns are subjected to combined actions of axial force, shear force and bending moment during earthquakes, caused by spatially-complex earthquake motions, features of structural configurations and the interaction between input and response characteristics. Combined actions can have significant effects on the force and deformation capacity of RC columns, resulting in unexpected large deformations and extensive damage that in turn influences the performance of bridges as vital components of transportation systems. This paper evaluates the seismic response of three prototype reinforced concrete bridges using comprehensive numerical models that are capable of simulating the complex soil-structural interaction effects and nonlinear behavior of columns. An analytical approach that can capture the shear-flexural interacting behavior is developed to model the realistic nonlinear behavior of RC columns, including the pinching behavior, strength deterioration and stiffness softening due to combined actions of shear force, axial force and bending moment. Seismic response analyses were conducted on the prototype bridges under suites of ground motions. Response quantities of bridges (e.g., drift, acceleration, section force and section moment etc.) are compared and evaluated to identify the effects of vertical motion, structural characteristics and the shear-flexural interaction on seismic demand of bridges.

  • By taking the Runyang Highway Bridge over the Yangtze River with 1490 m main span as example, structural response of the bridge under the horizontal and vertical seismic excitations is investigated by the response spectrum and time-history analysis of MIDAS/Civil software respectively, the seismic behavior and the influence of structural nonlinearity on the seismic response of the bridge are revealed. Considering the aspect of seismic performance, the suitability of employing the suspension bridge in super long-span bridges is investigated as compared to the cable-stayed bridge and cable-stayed-suspension hybrid bridge with the similar main span. Furthermore, the effects of structural parameters including the span arrangement, the cable sag to span ratio, the side to main span ratio, the girder height, the central buckle and the girder support system etc on the seismic performance of the bridge are investigated by the seismic response spectrum analysis, and the favorable earthquake-resistant structural system of suspension bridges is also discussed.

  • A femtosecond laser pre-annealing process based on indium zinc oxide (IZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) is fabricated. We demonstrate a stable pre-annealing process to analyze surface structure change of thin films, and we maintain electrical stability and improve electrical performance. Furthermore, dynamic electrical characteristics of the IZO TFTs were investigated. Femtosecond laser pre-annealing process-based IZO TFTs exhibit a field-effect mobility of $3.75cm^2/Vs$, an $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio of $1.77{\times}10^5$, a threshold voltage of 1.13 V, and a subthreshold swing of 1.21 V/dec. And the IZO-based inverter shows a fast switching behavior response. From this study, IZO TFTs from using the femtosecond laser annealing technique were found to strongly affect the electrical performance and charge transport dynamics in electronic devices.

  • The role of emotional responses is an important subject of study in consumer behavior. Although the perceived performance and satisfaction related emotions have been studied with increasing quantities in leisure studies or fields of outdoor recreation and tourism, issues concerning the appropriate way to measure these emotional responses remains unresolved. This article reviews the emotion measuring scales, and testify the usefulness of PAD scale based upon 349 questionnaires by users of Phoenix Park(Ski Resort) and Seoul Land(Theme Park) in Korea. It was found that, users' emotional response was closely related with satisfaction in Phoenix Park(Ski Resort); however, users' perceived performance was closely related with satisfaction in Seoul Land (Theme Park). This article argues that the meanings of these findings is due to different characteristics of consumption typology between ski resort and theme park. In conclusion, users' emotional experience may be more useful in understanding skiing activities and in formulating management strategies for ski resorts than theme parks.
