  • A down-scaled simulator is developed to simulate typical faults in induction motor such as short-turn stator winding, broken rotor bar, dynamic and static air-gap eccentricity, bearing trouble, and mechanical unbalance. The simulator is used as an initial builder to develop design algorithm for real-time faults detecting system by processing an abnormal signal and characteristics in each fault.

  • The vibration signals of driving parts of electric train are distorted its signal patterns due to the impact components, which occurs when wheel passes rail joints. An elimination method of the impact components is investigated using adaptive signal processing technique in this study The result shows that adaptive interference canceling method seems to be more effective than line enhancement technique. The application of adaptive interference canceling method to the signal measured at bogie shows that the extractions of the signals of driving parts of traction motor, reduction gear, and axle bearing are successful. Therefore, only the signals of bogie, which is the place to attach an accelerometer easily, is sufficient for the fault diagnosis and the safety evaluation of electric train. Also, adaptive interference canceling method can be applicable to evaluate the performance of vibration isolation between bogie and car body and to investigate the characteristics of indoor sound.

  • The effect of soil structure interaction (SSI) on seismic response of a multi-degree-of-freedom structure isolated with a friction pendulum system (FPS) is studied. In the analysis, the soil is considered as an elastic continuum and is modeled using the finite element method. The effect of SSI on response of the structure is evaluated for twenty far-field and twenty near-fault earthquake ground motions. The effect of friction coefficient of sliding material of FPS on SSI is also studied. The results of the study show that the seismic response of the structure increases for majority of the earthquake ground motions due to SSI. The sliding displacement and base shear are underestimated if SSI effects are ignored in the seismic analysis of structures isolated with FPS.

  • A virtual prototype (VP) model of the rotor-to-stator rub of the rotor system is established to study the nonlinear vibration characteristics. The non-linear bearing stiffness is considered to approximate to an actual system in the model. In order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a special structure of stator is designed to simulate different kinds of rub condition. The results of experiment are well consistent with the results of simulation by VP. The vibration characteristics of rub-impact are well observed by VP model under different conditions. Based on the validated model, the torsional vibration of rub-impact is discussed. The contribution of this paper is to provide one new approach to study rub-impact problem. Based on the validated VP model, the more research can be done for incident fault identification.

  • This study presents an electromagnetic model for predicting shaft voltages in a 2-pole field-excited synchronous generator. After the first observations on shaft voltages were made more than a century ago, extensive work has been conducted on eliminating, mitigating, and integrating the aforementioned phenomena. Given that emphasis has been placed on modeling shaft- and bearing-induced voltages in AC motors driven by variable frequency drives, similar efforts toward a model that is dedicated to generators are insubstantial. This work endeavors to improve current physical interpretation and prediction methods for shaft-induced voltages in generators through semi-analytical derivation. Aside from the experimental validation of the model, investigations regarding the behavior of shaft voltages under varying machine complexities and operating conditions clarify previous uncertainties regarding these phenomena. The performance of the numerical method is also assessed for application in eccentricity fault diagnosis.

  • A variety of method to diagnose the fault of rotational mechine is suggested, the latest data. This paper uses Bispectrum which is sort of high order spectrum, diagnose the ball bearing of the rotational machine element. Apprehending the physical meaning of Bispectrum, computer simulation is performed. The result from computer simulation and the signal of the faulted ball bearing is studied from all it's aspects. It is found that the Bispectrum is more effective than the conventional Power Spectrum.

  • Mesothermal, tellurium-bearing gold-silver vein mineralization of the Yuryang mine was formed in mineralogically complex quartz-sulfide veins that filled the fault fractures in Precambrian gneiss within Gyeonggi Massif. Ore grades average 179 g/ton gold with a gold/silver ratio of 1.5 : 1. Ore mineralization was deposited in single stage. Major ore mineralization can be divided into two mineralization phases with increasing paragenetic time: Fe-sulfide and base-metal mineralization phase $\rightarrow$ telluride mineralization phase. • Variable Curvature Friction Pendulum (VCFP) bearing is one of the alternatives to control excessive induced responses of isolated structures subjected to near-fault ground motions. The curvature of sliding surface in this isolator is varying with displacement and its function is non-spherical. Selecting the most appropriate function for the sliding surface depends on the design objectives and ground motion characteristics. To date, few polynomial functions have been experimentally tested for VCFP however it needs comprehensive parametric study to find out which one provides the most effective behavior. Herein, seismic performance of the isolated structure mounted on VCFP is investigated with two different polynomial functions of the sliding surface (Order 4 and 6). By variation of the constants in these functions through changing design parameters, 120 cases of isolators are evaluated and the most proper function is explored to minimize floor acceleration and/or isolator displacement under different hazard levels. Beside representing the desire sliding surface with adaptive behavior, it was shown that the polynomial function with order 6 has least possible floor acceleration under seven near-field ground motions in different levels.

  • The vibration signal can give an indication of the condition of rotating machinery, highlighting potential faults such as unbalance, misalignment and bearing defects. The features in the vibration signal provide an important source of information for the faults diagnosis of rotating machinery. When additional training data become available after the initial training is completed, the conventional neural networks (NNs) must be retrained by applying total data including additional training data. This paper proposes the fault diagnostics algorithm using the ART-Kohonen network which does not destroy the initial training and can adapt additional training data that is suitable for the classification of machine condition. The results of the experiments confirm that the proposed algorithm performs better than other NNs as the self-organizing feature maps (SOFM) , learning vector quantization (LYQ) and radial basis function (RBF) NNs with respect to classification quality. The classification success rate for the ART-Kohonen network was 94 o/o and for the SOFM, LYQ and RBF network were 93 %, 93 % and 89 % respectively.

  • This paper presents a faults diagnosis technique of induction motors based on a neural network. Only stator current is measured, transformed by using FFT and normalized for the training. Healthy, bearing fault, stator fault and rotor end-ring fault motors are prepared to obtain the learning data and diagnose the several faults. For more effective diagnosis, the load rate is changed by 100%, 60%, 30% of full load and the obtained are applied to the teaming process. The experimental results show the proposed method is very detectable and applicable to the real diagnosis system.
