  • Namakshin(: Wooden clogs), also called keukja, moklee, or mokhye usually have high heels to be worn on rainy days. According to the "Hamel's Journal and a description of the Kingdom of Korea, 1653-1666", a book authored by Hendrick Hamel (1630-1692), the 33 crew members of the S/S Sperwer were interned in March 1656 under the jurisdiction of the "Pyongsa" (Commandant) in Pyongyong, Kangjin and they were instrumental in making clogs of their native country and sold them to people around the Pyongyong area to earn some extra money. Pyongyong & Gangjin's wooden shoes are clearly different from those produced in the rest of Korea and bear striking resemblance to traditional Dutch clogs (klompen in Dutch). According to Hamel's narratives, the Dutch captives made wooden shoes for a living in Jeonlla province. Namakshin in Chosun was divided into 5 type, woman's rubber shoes, Condora, Taesahye, Balmaksin, trough style.

  • Recently, many high rise buildings is planning and under construction over the world. The drilled shafts as a foundation of high rise buildings are often adopted fur the purpose of construction safety and construction cost effectiveness. It is common that the capacity of drilled shafts is beyond conventional conception. The reasonable design and quality assurance for the drilled shaft as foundation of high rise building become much more important since the drilled shafts should bear much higher working load. This paper reviews state of the art of the design and quality assurance for the drilled shafts as foundation of high rise buildings. And also some related suggestions are given in this paper.

  • A transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is one of the fault current limiters which have been proposed to reduce the fault current in the transmission lines. This paper proposes the new circuit configuration of a transformer type SFCL and also investigates the operating characteristics of the transformer type SFCL containig the resistor in the tertiary winding. The proposed SFCL contains the resistor in the tertiary winding. The newly inserted resistor can divert the power which the High-Tc superconducting has to bear. Because the resistor in the tertiary winding relieves the power of the High-Tc superconducting, it is possible that the proposed transformer type SFCL can decrease the more larger fault current than the conventional SFCL with the same High-Tc superconducting. And the cost of the proposed transformer type SFCL can be reduced.

  • This paper aims to give beginners an introductory course on how to write a medical paper more effectively. Bear in mind the reviewer and the reader will be reading your paper for the first time, so you should write it easily. Everything in your paper must be coherent. Use of the active voice is usually shorter and clearer. Organize your story carefully and logically, and then you can avoid unnecessary repetition in different sections. Think hard, because research is made by the mind, not by the hands. Write technically and powerfully. Above all, you have to meet the submission regulation of the target journal exactly.

  • Anatomical organization of Stoechospermum marginatum reveals small cortical cells with moderately dense cytoplasm, overlying a multilayered medulla comparatively poor in cytoplasmic contents. The anticlinal walls of cortical cells show local thickenings rich in alginic acids. Sori form on both thallus surfaces and show tetrasporangia, paraphyses and sterile-cells. The unicellular paraphyses are rich in sulphated polysaccharides whereas multicellular ones have abundance of not only polysaccharides, but also of vacuoles and phenols. The sterile-cells are modified cortical cells present on either side of the tetrasporangium and bear cytoplasmic strands towards soral cavity. Various stages of tetrasporogenesis are seen in a single sorus. The developing tetrasporangium shows a two layered wall, where the outer one is rich in alginic acid and inner has sulphated polysaccharides. An apical pad aids tetraspore release. Also involved in the release process are sterile-cells, paraphyses and polysaccharides.

  • This study takes an issue of efficiency analysis in the presence of network effect utilizing the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) framework. Network effect has important policy implication for the regulation of local monopolies which undertake their business through physical network, such as electricity, natural gas, local telephony, etc. If the difference in spatial condition between companies is not controlled properly, the performance comparison and associated incentive regulation bear significant bias. In this study, we propose a methodology to measure the true managerial or technical efficiency apart from efficiency difference accruing from the difference in spatial condition. A series of modified DEA efficiency models are combined to investigate the extent of exogenous and endogenous efficiency component in the Korean natural gas distribution companies. Empirical results show that the network effect plays significant role in determining superficial performance difference.

  • The written case that reflects the course of treatment for a person is central to the East Asian medical tradition. This paper examines the approaches and particularities of producing the actual written account of the clinical encounter, or a particular aspect of a case, that may be required by acupuncture practitioners and researchers. It will discuss the influences that can be brought to bear on the construction and production of these accounts. In addition, it will outline and highlight historical approaches to the case record documentation process as well as debate the value and purpose of these. This paper aims both to assist the production of helpful and authoritative case records for practitioners and researchers, and to highlight the usefulness of such case records. Moreover, it will discuss not only why the case needs to be written and for whom, but also which agencies support and control what is written. How can contemporary requirements and traditional views both be incorporated accurately, with context and with meaning? The essence of this paper is that practitioner/patient interactions need to be documented, and it will explore how this can best be supported.

  • The model of rotary tillers under side loads established here is statically in determinate system. By means of FEM method, the deformation of side gearbox and right side board are calculated. Therefore the side deformations of rotary tillers under different lateral loads are discussed systematically. The results show that the rotary tiller system would bear the loads and deform unequally. Author's calculation also indicates that the lateral deforming values of right side board and side gearbox are almost the same, and more than 98% of the loads is born by the side.

  • The fraud exception rule allows for the issuing bank to dishonor the claim if it the documents and transactions bear fraud though the documents presented are complied with the terms and conditions of the letter of credit. A question arises whether the fraud exception rule can apply to innocent beneficiary when fraud is made by 3rd party. United City Merchants v. Royal Bank of Canada showed a good example how to handle in case of innocent beneficiary. At this case House of Lord found that innocent beneficiary deserves payment applying nullity exception rule. I believe that the nullity exception rule is employed for the benefit of innocent beneficiary as far as the issuer and applicant get no actual damage by the 3rd party's fraudulent action which is shown on documents.
