  • RLS a1gorithm is a kind of the adaptive a1gorithms in smart antennas and adapts the weight vector using the difference between the output signal of array antennas and the known training sequence. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm based on the RLS algorithm. It calculates the error signal with reference signal derived from blind scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields more user capacity by 67∼74% than other blind adaptive algorithms(LS-DRMTA, LS-DRMTCMA) at the same BER and the beamformer forms null beams toward interference signals and the main beam toward desired signal.

  • In this paper, we consider the quasi maximum likelihood(quasi-ML) detector which uses antenna arrays in asynchronous time-varing channels. It is shown that the proposed quasi-ml detector can be regarded as a beamformer followed by a decorrelator: a method based on the eigendecomposition of the correlation matrix of the inverse-filtered signal is proposed to estimate the channel vectors. We also show that the proposed algorithm estimates the channel vector within small mismatch loss in severe propagation environment through computer simulations.

  • This article exploits spatial diversity for jamming to prevent wiretapping in the extreme case in which an eavesdropper is located near the source and a common jamming signal is unavailable. To address this challenge, the jamming signal is allowed to carry a random binary message. Then, it is proposed that the active intermediate node transmits this jamming signal and the decoding of this signal at both source and destination is physically secured as result of using the physical-layer security method. If the source and the destination securely and correctly decode this jamming message, the source transmits another message which is created from combining its information message and the decoded message using the network-coding method. Therefore, this method prevents the transmissions from being eavesdropped upon by the source-wiretapping.

  • Robust adaptive beamforming based on worst-case performance optimization is investigated in this paper. It improves robustness against steering vector mismatches by the approach of diagonal loading. A closed-form solution to optimal loading is derived after some approximations. Besides reducing the computational complexity, it shows how different factors affect the optimal loading. Based on this solution, a performance analysis of the beamformer is carried out. As a consequence, approximated closed-form expressions of the source-of-interest power estimation and the output signalto-interference-plus-noise ratio are presented in order to predict its performance. Numerical examples show that the proposed closed-form expressions are very close to their actual values.

  • Underwater acoustic(UWA) communication is one of the most difficult field because of several factors such as multipath propagation, high temporal and spatial variability of channel conditions. Therefore, it is important to model and analyze the characteristics of underwater acoustic channel such as multipath propagation, transmission loss, reverberation, and ambient noise. In this paper, UWA communication channel is modeled with a ray tracing method and applied to image transmission. Quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) and multichannel decision feedback equalizer(DFE) are utilized as phase-coherent modulation method and equalization technique, respectively. The objective is to improve the performance of vertical sensor array than that of single sensor in the viewpoint of bit error rate(BER), constellation output, and received image quality.

  • Codebook-based opportunistic beamforming (COBF) technique provides a beam selection diversity to the conventional opportunistic beamforming. In this paper, we design the random matrix and codebook for the COBF technique based on a kappa-factor channel model. Applying the proposed design to the COBF, nearly optimal beams are generated. Therefore, the COBF shows an outstanding performance without regard to the channel correlation related to the kappa-factor.

  • Coherent interferences can be rejected using the weighted spatial smoothing (WSS) technique that allows us to be able to completely decorrrelate coherent signals with their arrival angles known. Its effective array aperture, however, can be greatly decreased, in particular when there exist many interferences, thereby degrading the rejection capability. In this paper, we propose an improved spatial smoothing (IWSS) which, with an increased effective array aperture, provides better performance than the existing WSS. Moreover, the proposed beamformer employs multiple constraints so that the coherent interferences are completely cancelled. Simulation shows the superiority of the IWSS in comparison with the conventional WSS.

  • Low frequency towed line array with high array gain and beam resolution is a long range surveillance sensor for anti-submarine warfare. The beam characteristics is however deteriorated due to the distorted line array sensor caused by low towing speed, wind, current, and towing ship maneuvering. An adaptive beamforming method is utilized in this paper to enhance the distorted line array beam performance by estimating and compensating the nonlinear array shape. A polynomial curve fitting in the least square sense is used to estimate the array shape iteratively with the distributed heading sensors data along the array. Real time array shape estimation and nonlinear array beam calculation is applied to a very long towed line array sensor system and the beam performance is evaluated and compared to the linear beamformer for the simulation and sea trial data.

  • The conventional GSC is inappropriate in real situation when the target signal is present. The steering vector error cancels the target signal and the target signal misadjusts the weight of the adaptive filter. To prevent the target signal cancellation, the robust GSC using the constrained adaptive filters was already proposed. However, the adaptive weight misadjustment is not settled in robust GSC. This Paper proposes a revised robust sidelobe canceller with adaptive compensator. To compensate the influence of target signal, the adaptive compensator is used in cascade. In computer simulation, we show the performance improvement by comparing the robust GSC with the proposed GSC.
