The purpose of this study is to investigate thermal post-buckling analysis of a laminated composite beam subjected under uniform temperature rising with temperature dependent physical properties. The beam is pinned at both ends and immovable ends. Under temperature rising, thermal buckling and post-buckling phenomena occurs with immovable ends of the beam. In the nonlinear kinematic model of the post-buckling problem, total Lagrangian approach is used in conjunction with the Timoshenko beam theory. Also, material properties of the laminated composite beam are temperature dependent: that is the coefficients of the governing equations are not constant. In the solution of the nonlinear problem, incremental displacement-based finite element method is used with Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effects of the fibber orientation angles, the stacking sequence of laminates and temperature rising on the post-buckling deflections, configurations and critical buckling temperatures of the composite laminated beam are illustrated and discussed in the numerical results. Also, the differences between temperature dependent and independent physical properties are investigated for post-buckling responses of laminated composite beams.
In the present paper, equivalent beam and equivalent bimorph beam models for IPMC(ionic Polymer-Metal Composite) actuators are described. Physical properties of an IPMC, such as Young's modulus and electro-mechanical coupling coefficient. are determined from the rule of mixture, bimorph beam equations, and measured force-displacement data of a cantilevered IPMC actuator. By using a beam equation with estimated physical properties, actuation displacements of a cantilevered IPMC actuator was calculated and a good agreement between the computed tip displacements and the measured data was observed. Finite element analysis(FEA) combined with the estimated physical properties was used to reproduce the force-displacement relationship of an IPMC actuator. Results from the FEA agreed well with the measure data. The proposed models might be used for modeling of IPMC actuators with complicated shapes and boundary conditions.

Based on the traditional mechanical model of thin-walled straight beam, the paper makes analysis and research on the pre-twisted thin-walled beam finite element numerical model. Firstly, based on the geometric deformation differential relationship, the Saint-Venant warping strain of pre-twisted thin-walled beam is deduced. According to the traditional thin-walled straight beam finite element mechanical model, the finite element stiffness matrix considering the Saint-Venant warping deformations is established. At the same time, the paper establishes the element stiffness matrix of the pre-twisted thin-walled beam based on the classic Vlasov Theory. Finally, by calculating the pre-twisted beam with elliptical section and I cross section and contrasting three-dimensional solid finite element using ANSYS, the comparison analysis results show that pre-twisted thin-walled beam element stiffness matrix has good accuracy.
A simple and straightforward method is introduced for developing continuum beam-rod model of a box-beam typed aircraft wing with composite layered skin based on "energy equivalence." The equivalent continuum structral properties are obtained from the direct comparison of the reduced stiffness and mass matrices for box-beam typed wing with those for continuum beam-rod model. The stiffness and mass matrices are all represented in terms of the continuum degrees-of freedom defined in this paper. The finite-element method. The advantage of the present continuum method is to give every continuum structural properties including all possible coupling terms which represent the couplings between different deformations. To evaluate the continuum method developed in this paper, free vibration analyses for both continuum beam-rod and box-beam are conducted. Numerical tests show that the present continuum method gives very reliable structural and dynamic properties compared to the results by the conventional finite-element analysis. analysis.
A method for the dynamic analysis of curved beam conveying fluid presents. The dynamics of curved beam is based on inextensible theory and the fluid in curved beam has uniform velocity. The equations of motion of curved beam are decoupled by in-plane motion and out-of$.$Plane motion. The solutions of equations are presented by a finite element method and validate by comparing the natural frequency with analytical solution, straight beam theories and Nastran. The influence of fluid velocity on the frequency response function is illustrated and discussed.
A nonlinear finite element analysis using ANSYS is used to evaluate the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joints. The behavior of the finite element models under cyclic loading is compared with the experimental results. Two beam-column joint specimens (SH and SHD) with square hoop confinement in joint and throughout the column with detailing as per IS 13920 are studied. The specimen SHD was provided with additional diagonal bars from column to beam to relocate the plastic hinge formation from beam-column interface. The load-displacement relationship, joint shear stress and strain in beam obtained from numerical study showed good agreement with the experimental results. This investigation proves that seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete beam-column joints under reversed cyclic loading can be evaluated successfully using finite element modeling and analysis.
Vibration of a beam translating over supports in vertical motion is investigated in this paper. Equations of motion are formulated using the virtual work principle by regarding the supports as kinematical constraints imposed on an unrestrained beam and by discretizing the beam via the assumed mode method. Differential-algebraic equations of motion are derived and reduced to differential equations in independent generalized coordinates by the generalized coordinate partitioning method. Geometric stiffness of the beam due to translating motion is considered and how the geometric stiffness of beam affects dynamic stability is also investigated. Instability of the beam. in various conditions is also investigated using Floquet theory and then the results are verified through the dynamic response analysis. Results of numerical simulation are presented for various prescribed motions of the beam.

Transient dynamic behavior of a sandwich beam under thermal and impulsive loads has been researched in the context of higher-order beam theory. The impulse load of blast type has been enforced on the top exponent of the sandwich beam while it is in a thermal environment. The core of the sandwich beam is cellular with auxetic rectangular pattern, whereas the layers have been built with the incorporation of graphene oxide powder (GOP) and are micromechanically introduced through Halpin-Tsai formulization. Governing equations for the sandwich beam have been solved through inverse Laplace transform style for obtaining the dynamical deflections. The connection of beam deflections on temperature variability, GOP quantity, pulse load situation and core relative density has been surveyed in detail.
Typically, beams that form part of structural systems are subjected to vertical distributed loading along their length. Distributed loading affects moment and shear distribution, and consequently spread of inelasticity, along the beam length. However, the finite element models developed so far for seismic analysis of frame structures either ignore the effect of vertical distributed loading on spread of inelasticity or consider it in an approximate manner. In this paper, a beam-type finite element is developed, which is capable of considering accurately the effect of uniform distributed loading on spreading of inelastic deformations along the beam length. The proposed model consists of two gradual spread inelasticity sub-elements accounting explicitly for inelastic flexural and shear response. Following this approach, the effect of distributed loading on spreading of inelastic flexural and shear deformations is properly taken into account. The finite element is implemented in the seismic analysis of plane frame structures with beam members controlled either by flexure or shear. It is shown that to obtain accurate results the influence of distributed beam loading on spreading of inelastic deformations should be taken into account in the inelastic seismic analysis of frame structures.
As the key part in the reinforced concrete column-steel beam (RCS) frame, the beam-column joints are usually subjected the axial force, shear force and bending moment under seismic actions. With the aim to study the seismic behavior of RCS joints with and without RC slab, the quasi-static cyclic tests results, including hysteretic curves, slab crack development, failure mode, strain distributions, etc. were discussed in detail. It is shown that the composite action between steel beam and RC slab can significantly enhance the initial stiffness and loading capacity, but lead to a changing of the failure mode from beam flexural failure to the joint shear failure. Based on the analysis of shear failure mechanism, the calculation formula accounting for the influence of RC slab was proposed to estimate shear strength of RCS joint. In addition, the finite element model (FEM) was developed by ABAQUS and a series of parametric analysis model with RC slab was conducted to investigate the influence of the face plates thickness, slab reinforcement diameter, beam web strength and inner concrete strength on the shear strength of joints. Finally, the proposed formula in this paper is verified by the experiment and FEM parametric analysis results.
