The nuclear power Plant onsite AC electrical power sources are required to supply power to the engineering safety facility buses if the offsite power source is lost. Typically, Diesel Generators are used as the onsite power source. The 125 VAC buses are part of the onsite Class 1E AC and DC electrical power distribution system. The DC power distribution system ensure the availability of DC electrical power for system required to shutdown the reactor and maintain it in a safety condition after an anticipated operational occurrence or a postulated Design Base Accident. Recently, onsite DC power supply system trip occurs the loss of system function. To obtain the performance such as reliability and availability, we analyzed the cause of battery charger trip and described the improvement of DC power supply system reliability. Finally, we provide reliability performance criteria of charger in order to ensure the probabilistic goals for the safety of the nuclear power plants.

Offering of different attractive opportunities by different wireless technologies trends the convergence of heterogeneous networks for the future wireless communication system. To make a seamless handover among the heterogeneous networks, the optimization of the power consumption, and optimal selection of interface are the challenging issues. The access of multi interfaces simultaneously reduces the handover latency and data loss in heterogeneous handover. The mobile node (MN) maintains one interface connection while other interface is used for handover process. However, it causes much battery power consumption. In this paper we propose an efficient interface selection scheme including interface selection algorithms, interface selection procedures considering battery power consumption and user mobility with other existing parameters for overlaying networks. We also propose a priority based network selection scheme according to the service types. MN‘s battery power level, provision of QoS/QoE and our proposed priority parameters are considered as more important parameters for our interface selection algorithm. The performances of the proposed scheme are verified using numerical analysis.

In this paper, we propose the battery charging device for electric bicycle using photovoltaic power. DC voltage from the solar cells is low, it needs to be step-up by the power conversion device. The power conversion device applied to this paper is phase-shift full-bridge converter. This converter steps-up from 12${\sim}$22[Vdc] to 36[Vdc] for charging the battery of electric bicycle. Phase-shift full-bridge converter(PSFB) can obtain twice as much DC voltage compared with half-bridge converter, thus it has lower current stress less than half-bridge converter. It is simulated and tested the battery charging device using photovoltaic power.

This paper proposes the PFC converter design for Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS), including Battery discharger. Battery discharger supplies power to the inverter, when accidents occur, such as power failure, blackout, overload. To verify the validity of proposed the PFC converter design including battery discharger, simulations are carried out.
This paper presents the method for the fluctuation smoothing control by using relaxation time variable control of battery. When the output power of wind farm is changed suddenly, it is necessary to control the output power of wind farm. The smoothing relaxation time is changed within limits of battery output power. Using the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) combined with battery energy storage system and electric double layer capacitor, it is possible to control the output power of wind farm. The capacity of battery is determined by considering the case of the disconnecting wind farm from the grid. To verify the proposed method, simulations are carried out by using PSCAD/EMTDC with actual data of wind farm in the Jeju Island.
This paper proposes a single-phase non-isolated onboard battery charger (OBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) that only uses small film capacitors at the DC-link of the AC-DC converter. In the proposed charger, an isolated DC-DC converter for low-voltage batteries is used as an active power decoupling (APD) circuit to absorb the ripple power when a high-voltage (HV) battery is charged. As a result, the DC-link capacitance in the AC-DC converter of the HV charging circuit can be significantly reduced without requiring any additional devices. In addition, some of the components of the proposed circuit are shared in common for the different operating modes among the AC-DC converter, LV charging circuit and active power filter. Therefore, the cost and volume of the onboard battery charger can be reduced. The effectiveness of the proposed topology has been verified by the simulation and experimental results.
This paper describes the implementation of a Storage Power Flow Controller (SPFC) connected to the grid which can provide concomitant benefits associated with a Unified Power Flow Controller while at the same time providing several other very important benefits to power system operation such as, load leveling dynamic voltage stability inprovement, harmonic compensation and power factor correction. This Storage power Flow Controller (SPFC) was implemented using real time signal processors, three-phase inverter(s) and battery bank which can provide improved power system operation and control, added system security and reduced power system losses.
In this paper, a control algorithm of a stand-alone type photovoltaic/wind/diesel hybrid power system for operation in a remote island, is proposed in detail. Power controllers are used to combine two different power outputs of photovoltaic and wind-power generations into DC output, which is converted into AC power to meet load while charging the storage battery for later use. In the event that the whole power load cannot be met by photovoltaic and wind power only, power stored in the battery cell is supplied and if even this power run out, diesel generator will be applied. Certain portion of diesel power is used to cover the load and the other to charge the battery.
Since the fuel cell uses the hydrogen for its fuel. it has no emission and higher efficiency than an internal combustion engine. Also fuel cell is much quieter than engine generator and generates heat much less than engine generator. So it has advantage of Army's 'si lent watch' capability and the ability to operate undetected by the enemy. The fuel cell hybrid system combines a fuel cell power system with an ESS. The ESS (e.g., batteries or ultracapacitors) reduces the fuel cell's peak power and transient response requirements. It allows the fuel cell to operate more efficiently and recovery of vehicle energy during deceleration. The battery has high energy density, so it has the advantage regarding driving distance. However, it has a disadvantage considering dynamic characteristic because of low power density. One other hand. the ultracapacitor has higher power density, so it can handle sudden change or discharge of required power. Yet. it has lower energy density. so it will be bigger and heavier than the battery when it has the same energy. This paper proposes the power management strategy for multi-power source fuel cell hybrid system. which is applied with the merits of both battery and ultra capacitor by using both of them simultaneous.
This paper presents the design and implementation of a wind-solar hybrid power system for LED street lighting and an isolated power system. The proposed system consists of photovoltaic modules, a wind generator, a storage system (battery), LED lighting, and the controller, which can manage the power and system operation. This controller has the functions of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for the wind and solar power, effective charging/discharging for the storage system, LED dimming control for saving energy, and remote data logging for monitoring the performance and maintenance. The proposed system was analyzed in regard to the operation status of the hybrid input power and the battery voltage using a PSIM simulation. In addition, the characteristics of the proposed system's output were analyzed through experimental verification. A prototype was also developed which uses 300[W] of wind power, 200[W] of solar power, 60[W] LED lighting, and a 24[V]/80[Ah] battery. The control system principles and design scheme of the hardware and software are presented.
