Soil degradation has become a major worldwide environmental problem, particularly in arid and semi-arid climate zones due to irregular rainfall and the intensity of storms that frequently generate heavy flooding. The main objective of this study is the use of geographic information system and remote sensing techniques to quantify and to map the soil losses in the Wadi Saida watershed (624 ㎢) through the revised universal soil loss equation model and a proposed model based on the surface erosive runoff. The results Analysis revealed that the Wadi Saida watershed showed moderate to moderately high soil loss, between 0 and 1000 t/㎢/year. In the northern part of the basin in the region of Sidi Boubkeur and the mountains of Daia; which are characterized by steep slopes, values can reach up to 3000 t/㎢/year. The two models in comparison showed a good correlation with R = 0.95 and RMSE = 0.43; the use of the erosive surface runoff parameter is effective to estimate the rate of soil loss in the watersheds. The problem of soil erosion requires serious interventions, particularly in basins with disturbances and aggressive climatic parameters. Good agricultural practices and forest preservation areas play an important role in soil conservation.

This thesis aims to estimate the rainfall runoff from paddy field in a small watershed during irrigation period. When the data observed at the proposed site are not available, the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers which was derived from data observed under the following assumptions is used to study the water balance. a. Monthly base flow was assumed as 10. 2mm even if these is no mouthly rainmfall. b. Monthly comsumption of rainfall was ranged from 100 to 2OOmm without relation to the rainfall depth. However, the small watershed which consists mainly of paddy fields encounters severe droughts and accordingly the baseflow is negligible. Under the circumstances the author has developed the following equation called "Flood Irrigation Method for Rainfall Runoff "taking account of the evapotranspiration, precipitation, seepage, less of transportation, etc. R= __ A 7000(1 +F) -5n(n+1)+ (n+1)(Pr-S-Et)] where: R: runoff (ha-m) A: catchment area (ha) F: coefficient of loss (o.o-0. 20) Pr: rainfall (mm) S: seepage Er: evapotranspiration (mm) To verify the above equation, the annual runoff ratio for 28 years was estimated using the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers the Flood Irrigation Method and the Complex Hydrograph Method based on meteorological data observed in the Dae Eyeog project area, and comparison was made with data observed in the Han River basin. Consequently, the auther has concluded that the Flood Irrigation Method is more consi- stent with the Complex Hydrograph Method and data observed than the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers.

This paper presents a new estimation method of full scale propulsive performance for the pulling type podded propeller. In order to estimate the drag of pod housing, a drag velocity ratio, which includes the effects of podded propeller loading and Reynolds number, is presented and evaluated through the comparison of model test and numerical analysis. By separating the thrust of propeller blade and the drag of pod housing, extrapolation method of pod housing drag to full scale is deduced, and correction method of propeller blade thrust and torque to full scale is presented. This study utilized the drag coefficient ratio of the pod housing as a measure for expanding it to full scale, but in order to increase the accuracy of performance evaluation, additional study is necessary on the method for the full scale expansion via separating the drag of pod body, strut and fin which consist the pod housing.

Thailand had issued a national strategic development master plan with issues related to water resources and water security in the entire water management. Water resources are an important factor of living and development of the country's socio-economy to be stable, prosperous and sustainable. Therefore, water management in both multidimensional and multi-sectoral systems is important and will supports socio-economic and environmental development. The direction of national development in accordance with the national strategic framework for 20 years that requires the country to level up security level in terms of water, energy and food. To response to the proposed goals, there is a subplan to increase water productivity of the entire water system for economical development use by evaluating use value and to create more value added from water use to meet international standard level. This study aims to evaluate the water productivity of Thailand in each basin and all sectors such as agricultural sector, service and industrial sectors by using the water use data from water account analysis and GDP data from NESDB during the past 10 years (1996-2015). The comparison of water productivity with other countries will also be conducted and in addition, the measures to improve water productivity in next 20 years will be explored to response to the National Strategic Master Plan goals. Water productivity is defined as output per unit of water depleted. The simplest way to compare water productivity across different enterprises is in monetary terms. World Bank presents water productivity as an indication of the efficiency by which each country uses its water resources. There are two data sets used for water productivity analyses, i.e., the first is water use data at end users and the second is Gross Domestic Product. The water use at end users are estimated by water account method based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water) concept of United Nations. The water account shows the analyses of the water balance between the use and supply of each water resource in physical terms. The water supply and use linkage in the water account analyses separated into each phases, i.e., water sources, water managers, water service providers, water user at end user under water regulators of all kinds of water use activities such as household, industrial, agricultural, tourism, hydropower, and ecological conservation uses. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a well- known measuring method of the national economic growth is not actually a comprehensive approach to describe all aspects of national economic status, since GDP does not take into account the costs of the negative impacts to natural resources that result from the overexploitation of development projects, however, at present, integrating the environment with the economy of a country to measure its economic growth with GDP is acceptable worldwide. The study results will show the water use at each basin, use types at end users, water productivity in each sector from 1996-2015 compared with other countries, Besides the productivity improvement measures will be explored and proposed for the National Strategic Master Plan.
This paper introduces the probable regional and long distance trade of cotton goods among the pre-Hispanic Mesoamericans during the Classic (A.D. 200-900) period through the comparison of the available documentary sources. Based on the ethnohistoric data and the archaeological evidences it was found that cotton was used throughout the Mesoamerica by the elite ruling class. However, because cotton could not be grown at elevations above 6,000 feet it was obvious that nations such as Teotihuacan which flourished in the highland of present day Mexico City had to import cotton from the tropical coastal hotlands either through trade or tribute. Several ethnohistorical and archaeological data suggest that urban center in highland Mexico had people employed in weaving the textiles rather than cultivating or spinning cotton. Archaeological evidences such as the workshops used by the craft specialists seemed to be associated with weaving of cotton. Because of the similarity in climatic conditions for marine shells and cotton cultivation, Kolb's model seems to be applicable to the cotton trade of the classic Teotihuacan. Based on Kolb's model, it could be hypothesized that Teotihuacan-Kaminaljyyu-Maya was the indirect trade route connecting the Basin of Mexico and the Mayan regions.

This study conducted to optimize the design and operation of orifice typed distribution channels which were generally constructed to link the rapid mixing process and flocculation/sedimentation basin. To accomplish the goal of this study, programming step method using FORTRAN 90, was applied it to simulate the performance of existing distribution channel in the selected S DWTP (Drinking Water Treatment Plant). The proposed step method program was validated in terms of the feasibility with comparison between the measurement and prediction value in each orifice. From the evaluation results of the current conditions with the design and operation, it was revealed that the existing gradient of the tapered channel is not appropriate. Also, we suggested that in the case of the inlet width being 3.5m, reducing the downstream width by about 0.5m would make more equitable distribution flow in the channel. Consequently, dealing with various conditions of the design and operation with distribution channel, we could conclude that for the parallel typed channel, as the width is wider and the diameter of orifice is smaller, the more equitable distribution occur. In addition, the inlet flowrate and the number of orifice can affect the flow velocity in the channel.

A two-dimensional numerical model based on a finite volume method was formulated to solve the shallow water equations and applied for evaluating drainage characteristics at large-sized paddy fields. Manning roughness coefficient was calibrated using the observed inundating depths at drainage tests, and used for validating the model with the results from another drainage test. The simulated results were in good agreement with the observed inundating depths. The result of surface drainage showed that the longer width of the outlet was or the more the number of drainage outlet was, the shorter the drainage time was taken, and the larger the size of the field become, the longer the drainage time was taken, and the field shape had little effect on drainage time. To reduce the drainage time to 24 hours, the outlet is located lower than the elevation of the basin and small drainage ditch is constructed at the field. The results showed that the drainage time was taken short as the small drainage ditch was constructed. The comparison of drainage time as to the size of field constructed small drainage ditch showed the field, 100m ${\times}$ 200 m, can be drained in 24 hours.
This paper is aimed to study the late Neolithic Age in North Korea in order to closely examine a transition process into the Bronze Age in the Korean peninsula. Thus, the pottery with lightning design was selected as target data. Since the pottery with lightning design is fundamental data that North Korea's archeologists have used for chronological recordings of the late Neolithic Age in the northwest region, the parallel relationship between the eastern and the western region was established with comparison of pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region. The examination focuses on data that cover the target region of the pottery with lightning design of the adjacent Southern Primorskii region including the counterpart of the northwestern and the northeastern region. As a result, some attribute analyses revealed that the pottery with lightning design was affected by the counterpart of the northwestern region near the Yalu River. Prior to genealogical and chronological recordings of the pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region, the pottery with lightning design in the northwestern region was recorded chronologically in order to examine its specific development process. Consequently, in the second period of the Neolithic Age, the pottery with lightning design in the northwestern region was assumed to have an impact on the counterpart in the northeastern region. The classification of the pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region shall be based on 4-period development. According to this classification, the pottery, which was found in the Tumen river basin, was thought to belong to the first period. The pottery went through genealogy differentiation in the second period and when entering into the third period, the pottery spread to inland of south Primorskii. The pottery was assumed to exist in the southern Primorskii region until the tip end (the fourth period) of the Neolithic Age. It is assumed that considering the fact that climate change led to the agriculture movement, Zaisanovka culture, i.e. the late Ne Neolithic Age, moved to the southern Primorskii region along the Tumen River basin.

This study was carried out to compare stand structure in Bihwajin basin Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do, Korea for ten years between 2003 and 2014, in which occurred the east coastal forest fire in 2000. Data were collected from 32 quadrates that followed by the analysis of vegetation classification according to plant sociology, importance value by Mclntosh and Curtise, species diversity and similarity index. In the result of vegetation classification, the vegetation unit decreased from 7 units to 4 units, and the number of species groups changed from 11 to 7. As a result of importance value (IV) changes, IV of Quercus mongolica, Q. serrata and Q. variabilis was increased by 6.8%, 5.2% and 2.9% in the order, respectively. However, that of Pinus densiflora was decreased by 2.8%. That of major planted species such as Castanea crenata, Chionanthus retusa, Prunus armeniaca var. ansu, Acer triflorum and Koelreuteria paniculata was reduced. As a result of species diversity, it was increased from 0.252 to 0.287 in tree layer, from 0.252 to 0.434 in subtree layer, and from 1.293 to 1.333 in shrub layer. But that in herb layer was decreased from 1.745 to 1.646. As a result of similarity index, it was 0.78, 0.65, 0.72 and 0.55 by layers that showed most difference in herb stratum. Considering the results, this study would be applied to the ecosystem diagnose and management of forest fire damaged area similar to the investigated area.

A zero-dimensional simple model is presented to predict the currents in the opening channel of tide embankment and the sea-level response of the interior basin to ocean sea level. In general, a tidal embayment has wide tidal flats so that the effect of tidal flats has been taken into account by formulating the volute variation vs. depth. The model has been verified through the comparison with the 2-dimensional depth-integrated model which can resolve the small area by using the multigrid method. As the results applied to the storage of dredged material of Incheon North Harbour, the results indicate that both models adequately describe the sea-level and current fluctuations in the storage.
