As a bioreactor, bird has proved to be most efficient system for producing useful therapeutic proteins. More than half of the egg white protein content derives from the ovalbumin gene with four other proteins(lysozyme, ovomucoid, ovomucin and conalbumin) present at levels of 50 milligrams or greater. And the naturally sterile egg also contains egg white protein at high concentration allowing for a long shelf life of recombinant protein without loss in activity. In spite of these advantages, transgenic procedures for the bird have lagged far behind because of its complex process of fertilized egg and developmental differences. Recently, a system to transplant mouse testis cells from a fertile donor male to the seminiferous tubules of an infertile recipient male has been developed. Spermatogenesis is generated from transplanted cells, and recipients are capable of transmitting the donor haplotype to progeny. After transplantation, primitive donor spermatogonia migrate to the basement membrane of recipient seminiferous tubules and begin proliferating. Eventually, these cells establish stable colonies with a characteristic appearance, which expands and produces differentiating germ cells, including mature spermatozoa. Thus, the transplanted cells self-renew and produce progeny that differentiate into fully functional spermatozoa. In this study, to develop an alternative system of germline chimera production that operates via the testes rather than through developing embryos, the spermatogonial stem cell techniques were applied. This system consisted of isolation and in vitro-culture of chicken testicular cells, transfer of in vitro-maintained cells into heterologous testes, production of germline chimeras and confirmation of germline transmission for evaluating production of heterologous, functional spermatozoa.
We investigated the weathering characteristics of On-Yang gneiss by means of geological survey and Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR). The results of geological survey and boring show the two sets of vertical joint and horizontal joint developed by foliation which is composed of salic and melanic layers. GPR section evidently shows foliation direction and differential weathering due to discontinuity and mineral composition of metamorphic rock. The GPR section for instantaneous phase attribute based on complex trace analysis evidently shows continuity and foliation direction of metamorphic rock. The strong reflection amplitude which is derived from the banded structure of weathered rock can be incorrectly interpreted as a reflection of bedrock. The depth of rock basement should be estimated from the overall exploration result such as boring, seismic method, and electrical resistivity method.
A 10-year-old female Yorkshire terrier with the clinical signs of nasal swelling, epistaxis and nasal discharge was presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Cheju National University. Abnormal nasal mass was detected in physical examination and radiographic findings. After surgical excision, the sample of nasal mass was referred to Pathology Department of Veterinary Medicine. Grossly, the mass was soft, friable, and $2.5{\times}4cm$ cm in size. Histopathologically, the mass was composed of mediumsized non-keratinizing columnar to polyhedral cells arranged in anastomosing ribbon and large nest. It has complex in-folding of thick epithelial layers separated by fibrovascular septa. Tumor cells showed characteristic palisading arrangement of columnar cells, and perpendicularly distributed to the basement membrane. The cells had pale basophilic cytoplasm, oval nucleus and one or more nucleoli, and indistinct cellular border. Many tumor cell emboli were presented in lymphatics. Immunohistochemistry revealed that tumor cells were cytokeratin (CK) 19 and CK clone MNF116 positive and but CK7 and CK high molecular weight negative. Based on the gross, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical findings, the mass was diagnosed as transitional carcinoma in nasal cavity. In our best knowledge, this is the first report of transitional carcinoma originated from transitional zone of canine nasal cavity in Korea.
The lowest formation of the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Supergroup, the Nakdong Formation, unconformably overlies the gneiss complex basement in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do and Gwangyang, Chullanam-do. The Nakdong Formation of the study area is 500-600 m thick and occurs as a belt shape. Based upon lithology, sedimentary structure, and bedding geometry the formation consists of three conglomerate facies (Gd, Gn, Gic), five sandstone facies (Sh-n, Sh-i, Sp, Sr, Sm), and four mudstone facies (Mf, Mfn, Mc, Mv). Sandstone facies are the most prominent in the study area. The twelve facies can be grouped into five facies associations. The depositional settings are elucidated from analyses of 12 facies and five facies associations of the formation. The lower part of the Nakdong Formation was deposited in alluvial plain, and the middle and upper parts were in a riverine system. The lithologies of the Nakdong Formation of the Gyeongsang Basin have been considered to consist of generally conglomerates and pebbly sandstones that were accumulated in alluvial fans. But the common lithology of the study area is sandstone which was formed in lower part of alluvial fan or fluvial setting. It is supposed that the coarser sedimentary sequence distributed west to the study area should be eroded out after deposition and early uplift, and the finer sandstone sequence in the east remains behind. The mineral composition of sandstones and the clast composition of conglomerates indicate that the Nakdong Formation was derived mainly from the metamorphic source rocks. Some reworked intraclasts were also supplied from the intrabasinal sedimentary layers. Paleocurrent data collected from cross-beddings, ripple marks, asymmetric sand dune suggest that most sediments were transported from north to south during the Nakdong Formation time.
Uiseong subbasin belonging to Kyungsang basin resulted from volcanic activity in the late Cretaceous. In this study, we carry out MT and gravity survey at the Hwasan caldera, which was formed of volcanic and abyssal rocks complex, then analyze and identify geological substructure. Potential survey such as gravity and magnetic survey has been mainly carried out in former studies, so depth information for understanding substructure was not enough. To complement a potential survey, we use MT method, which has high vertical resolution. Moreover we make a simple 2D model comparing with former study. The result of MT and gravity 2D modeling shows that this area is roughly composed of 3 layers; The bottom layer is a basement. In the second layer, intrusive rocks having high resistivity is placed along the ring faults and the sedimentary layer of low resistivity is inside caldera. The highest layer is alluvium. To comprehend the 3D structure of the Hwasan caldera, we perform 3D gravity inversion, and construct the 3D model from the result of 3D gravity inversion. MT responses are calculated by using the constructed 3D model and the 3D model of the Hwasan caldera's structure is suggested after comparing the calculated values with the observed values at MT line.
The gingival hyperplasia refers to an increase in the size of the gingival tissue produced by an increase in the number of its component cells. In order to investigate the cellular change in epithelium and subepithelial tissue of noninflammatory gingival hyperplasia, the gingival tissues were surgically obtained from the patients with dilantin gingival hyperplasia and idiopathic gingival hyperplasia. The excised tissue samples were fixed in neutral formalin for 6-24 hours, embedded with paraffin, sectioned at $4-6{\mu}m$ in thickness, mounted on glass slides coated with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(Sigma Chemical Co., St. Louis, MO, U.S.A.) and immunocytochemically processed by Avidin-Biotin peroxidase complex method for detecting proliferating cell nuclear antigen, tenascin and collagen type IV. Monoclonal mouse anti-human PCNA antibody(Oncogene Science, Uniondale, NY, U.S.A., 1 : 250,000), monoclonal mouse anti-human tenascin antibody(Chemicon-International Inc., Temecula, CA, U.S.A., 1:5,000), and monoclonal mouse anti-human collagen type IV(Dakopatts, Glostrup, Denmark, 1: 50) were used as primary antibodies. The results were as follows: 1. In non-inflammatory gingival hyperplasia, the positive reaction to proliferating cell nuclear antigen was localized in the basal cell layer of gingival epithelium and well-developed rete pegs. 2. The positive reaction to tenascin was shown in the connective tissue subjacent to basament membrane of gingival tissue, and especially strong positive reaction was noted in the tip portion of connective tissue projections. 3. The positive reaction to collagen type IV was localized along the basement membranes of gingival epithelium and blood vessels. The results suggest that connective tissue enlargement may affect the proliferation of gingival epithelium.
A high-resolution seismic survey was conducted on the abandoned tidal flat in Shihwa Lake on the west coast of Korea. A portable vibrator was used as a seismic source and 217 shot gathers with 48-channel system were acquired. F-k filtering, residual static corrections and post-stack frequency filtering are found to be useful for signal enhancement. The overburden is divided into two seismic depositional units. Unit I is deposited in tidal environment characterized by parallel and high continuity reflection pattern. This unit comprises a dry layer (Unit Ia) and a wet layer (Unit Ib) having averagely 5 and 15 meters thick, respectively. Unit II unconformably overlain by Unit I exhibits discontinuity and hummocky reflection pattern, indicating complex channel-fill sediments in estuary. The maximum thickness of this unit is approximately 20 meter. Acoustic basement is considered as Precambrian granitic gneiss occurred in the surrounding area.
Gwangjueupseong (Gwangju Town Wall) has been found in the site of the Asian Culture Complex (former Provincial Government of Jeonnam) by archaeological field survey. The length of the remaining wall is 85.1m, and the Town Wall consists of ten kinds of rock type. The major rock types are dacite (41.1%) and andesite (35.7%). Dacite composes main rock blocks of the wall, and andesite is used to fill the cavity between main rock blocks. These rocks look very similar to basement rocks of the Mudeung Mountain on the basis of occurrence features, magnetic susceptibility, petrological, mineralogical and geochemical properties. Also, quarrying traces were found on the southwestern slope of the mountain along the Jeungsimsa Temple valley. Thus, it is probable that the rock materials of the Gwangju Town Wall were supplied from the Mudeung Mountain and that they were transported along the Gwangju river.

Landscaping on artificial ground is currently served as a means to imposing a greenery benefit on high-density and high-rise apartment sites. It functions as a sub-hierarchy in apartment planning such as ornamental element from the past. Major parking space tends to be allocated on the basement area in response to the required parking regulation. Therefore, competitive relatioinship between the parking and greenery space I limited outdoor of apartments leads to the development planning strategy and technology of artificial ground. This study aims at evaluating landscape planning on artificial ground of apartment complex through several approaches such as site survey, plan drawing analysis, and interview with related field experts. 15 survey apartment sites including Bundang Model, Shindaebang-dong, Pyoungchon Hyundai Apartments have been selected for conducting the research. Main results of this study are summarized below : First, scattering allocation of artificial ground between apartment building units is a dominant plan layout type among the survey sites. Even though unifying allocation type has an advantage to maximize underground parking space, it has a difficulty in maintaining proper soil ground base for nurturing plants. Therefore, underground parking space should be planned by unifying allocation type placed separately from apartment units. This plan type can provide a balanced planting between soil and artificial ground on surface level. Second, It is strongly recommended to integrate the whole planting base which involves architectural structure, drainage, and water proofing above the planting design. When considering that process as a professional subject dealing with natural material such as trees and shrubs, those tasks should be directed by landscape architectural divison and landscape architect. And planting area for artificial ground has to be specified in initial phase of architectural design. This step provides an opportunity to make a proper decision on structural load, drainage, and water proof design as an integrated part of the management.
