  • When the vibration troubles occur on the ship structure during the sea trial, the rectification work is very restricted because of in-situ limitation. Usually the finite element method is used to improve vibration characteristics of the structure, but it takes lots of time and effort in modeling the structure and adjusting the finite element model in order to consider appropriate boundary conditions of a complex ship structure. Therefore, experimental methods have been in general suggested to obtain proper countermeasures without time-consuming in modeling. In this paper, FRF(frequency response function) synthesis method is applied to estimate natural frequency of the modified ship structure, which is obtained from experimental and numerical methods.

  • A new configuration of tiltrotor UAV previously suggested by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) for the purpose of increasing the endurance performance in airplane mode flight has extended wings attached to the nacelle and rotated with the nacelle according to the flight modes. In this research, the effectiveness of the extended wing on the enhancement of the endurance performance of KARI tiltrotor UAV (TR60) was analytically investigated based on CFD analysis results. Flight tests and ground tests of measuring the fuel consumption were also conducted to directly compare the endurance performance for the two configurations of TR60 baseline and TR60 extended-wing model.

  • Nowadays, SELENE-2 is under development for the moon explorer rover in Japan. AXS(Active X-ray Spectrometer) sensor development among the candidated payloads will be on going by the world-wide co-operation. The thermal design, analysis and test will be specially performed by Korean institutes. CFD techniques are used for the conceptual design and analysis. Thin-shell plate meshes being applied by Monte-Carlo Ray Tracing Method are generated for the thermal radiation analysis. Lumped capacity model is employed for the thermal conduction simulation of the AXS payload itself. Various shapes of the payload configuration with thermal boundary conditions are proposed and selected on the purpose of the analysis of the initial design. The results of the analysis are supposed to be used as the baseline for the further detailed design of the AXS payload in the future.

  • The flexible pedestrian legform impactor(Flex-PLI) consisting of a flexible femur and tibia will be tested for pedestrian protection by global technical regulation(GTR) within the next couple of years as a replacement for the existing transport research laboratory(TRL) legform impactor. In this study, a computer aided engineering(CAE) model was used to perform the effect analysis of each injury with regard to the changes in tolerance factors with the baseline results without tolerance. The tolerance factors were the height of impactor from ground reference line, initial velocity of impactor and rotation of impactor.

  • This paper proposes an efficient feature vector processing technique to guard the Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) system against a variety of noises. In the proposed approach, emotional feature vectors are extracted from speech processed by comb filtering. Then, these extracts are used in a robust model construction based on feature vector classification. We modify conventional comb filtering by using speech presence probability to minimize drawbacks due to incorrect pitch estimation under background noise conditions. The modified comb filtering can correctly enhance the harmonics, which is an important factor used in SER. Feature vector classification technique categorizes feature vectors into either discriminative vectors or non-discriminative vectors based on a log-likelihood criterion. This method can successfully select the discriminative vectors while preserving correct emotional characteristics. Thus, robust emotion models can be constructed by only using such discriminative vectors. On SER experiment using an emotional speech corpus contaminated by various noises, our approach exhibited superior performance to the baseline system.

  • Currently, fast and accurate long baseline positioning in kinematic mode is a challenging topic, but positional accuracy can be improved with the help of the network-derived external ionospheric corrections. To provide not only ionospheric corrections, but also their variances, satellite-by-satellite interpolation for the ionospheric delays is performed using the least-squares collocation (LSC) method. Satellite-by-satellite interpolation has the advantage in that the vertical projection used in single-layer ionospheric model is not required. Also, more reliable user positioning and the corresponding accuracy assessment can be obtained by providing not only external ionospheric corrections but also their variances. The rover positioning with and without the external ionospheric delays in both rapid-static and kinematic mode was performed and analyzed. The numerical results indicate that the improvement in the positioning quality is achieved using the proposed method. With the TAMDEF network in Antarctica, 18 % improvement in mean time-to-fix in kinematic mode was achieved.

Idealized PID-Controlled rotor-speed error will respond as a second-order system with the natural frequency and damping ratio. RISO proposed specific natural frequency(=0.6 rad/s) and damping ratio(=0.7). If specific Eigen value apply to NREL 5 MW wind turbine, differ with pitch respond for simulation results of RISO report. • We performed a numerical simulation based on the two-dimensional (2-D) unsteady Euler's equation with a single-step Arrhenius reaction model in order to investigate the detonation wave front propagation of an Argon (Ar) diluted oxy-hydrogen mixture ($2H_2+O_2+12Ar$). This simulation operates in the detonation frame of reference. We examine the effect of grid size and the performance impact of integrated quantities such as mass flow. For a given set of baseline conditions, the minimal and maximum grid resolutions required to simulate the respective detonation waves and the detonation cell structures are determined. Tertiary shock wave behavior for various grids and pre-exponential factors are analyzed. We found that particle fluctuation can be weakened by controlling the mass flow going through the oblique shock waves.

  • This paper presents a DSM Monitoring Methodology which is able to evaluate the impact of DSM programs under processing. For an effective assessment of DSM programs, it is foremost necessary to examine the market characteristics on the specific end-use appliance according to the customer's adoption of DSM programs. The Proposed Monitoring system contains a diffusion process of high efficient end-use considering major factors of DSM impact such as, price, price elasticity and lifetime of end-use apparatus or appliance. The case study shows the propriety and necessity of DSM monitoring in order to diagnose the current state and provide a baseline of DSM policy
