This study investigates the behaviour of hunchback retaining walls supporting unsaturated sandy backfill under active earth pressure conditions. Utilizing a horizontal slice method and a unified effective stress methodology, the influence of various factors on lateral earth pressure, including the position of the hunch along the wall, friction angles, and wall heights, is explored. The results suggest that relocating the hunch position from close to the wall's top to near its base leads to a significant decrease (ranging from 54% to 81%) in lateral earth pressure. However, as the hunch position transitions from near the top to mid-height, the point of application of active thrust shifts upward initially, then slightly downward as the hunch position approaches the toe. Notably, the reduction in lateral earth pressure is more pronounced for shorter wall heights and higher friction angles. Building upon these findings, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based model is developed to accurately predict the lateral earth pressure coefficient and point of application, achieving R2 values of 0.94 and 0.93, respectively. In addition, an analytical model based on Coulomb's earth pressure theory is presented and compared with ANN models. These models are anticipated to assist designers and practitioners in optimizing hunchback retaining walls for unsaturated backfill.

Since the interior shape of a pressure regulator is complex and the change of fluid resistance at each operation condition is rapid and big, the pressure regulator can become the major factor that causes big loss in pipelines. So the suitable pressure regulator modeling by each operation condition is important to obtain reliable results especially in small scale pipeline network analysis. And in order to prevent the condensation and freezing problems, it is needed to confirm both whether temperature recovery is achieved after passing by the pressure regulator's narrow neck and how much amount of low temperature area that can cause condensate accumulation is distributed by various PCV models at every inlet-outlet pressure ratio. In this research, the numerical model resembling P company pressure regulator that is used widely for high pressure range in commercial, is adopted as the base model of CFD analysis to investigate pressure regulator's flow characteristics at each pressure ratio. Additionally it is also introduced to examine pressure regulator's critical flow characteristics and possibility of condensation or freezing at each pressure ratio. Furthermore, the comparison between the results of CFD analysis and the results of analytic solution obtained by compressible fluid-dynamics theory is attempted to validate the results of CFD modeling in this study and to estimate the accuracy of theoretical approach at each pressure ratio too.

This paper has aimed to prevent excessive heat input by controlling arc distribution and heat input capacity with pulse GTAW in order to improve weld quality in 0.08mm pressure gauge diaphragm and flange welding parts. A design of experiment was designed using Box-Behnken method to optimize a welding process. The pulse GTAW parameters such as pulse current, base current, pulse duty, frequency and welding speed were set to input variables while hydraulic pressure that represents welding characteristics in diaphragm and flange joint were set to output variables. Based on the test result, a second regression equation was obtained between input and output variables and turned out significant. Besides, an influence of parameters has been confirmed through response surface analysis using the second-order regression equation and optimum welding condition was obtained through a grid-search method. The optimum welding condition was set to pulse current 84.4(A), base current 29.6(A), pulse duty 58.8(%), frequency 10(%), and welding speed 596(mm/min). Then, decent bead shape was acquired with no excessive heat input under the $2.3kgf/cm^2$ of hydrostatic pressure.
Uncertainty analysis of the FLB accident is performed for KNU-1 using the response surface methodology and Monte Carlo simulation. The FLB analyses using the RELAP4/Mod6 were performed a number of times to generate the data base for the uncertainty analysis, along with the EM calculation for comparison purpose. Two kinds of input sets are utilized for response surface method to investigate and compare the effects of the uncertainty of input variables on the RCS peak pressure following a FLB. The first set is composed of six major plant operational parameters and the second set is composed of five major modelling parameters. It is found through the analysis of results that the uncertainties of modelling parameters have more influence on the RCS peak pressure than the uncertainties of plant operational parameters and that the extra margin of 9% of peak pressure is gained. And one of the assumptions of EM calculation, which is usually accepted as conservative is found to be erroneous, that is, the initial core inlet temperature is found to act negatively on the RCS pressure following a FLB.

The present study investigates to improve the film cooling performance on the vane endwall. Numerical simulation was conducted to analyze film cooling characteristics on the vane endwall. Six different hole arrangements were designed considering flow characteristics on the endwall. The results showed that the film cooling effectiveness was low on the pressure side and nozzle throat in the base case, because coolant was deflected from the pressure side to the suction side. On the other hand, when the holes were installed near the pressure side, the film cooling effectiveness was enhanced on the pressure side and nozzle throat, because the coolant was less affected by cross flow. Therefore, the film cooling effectiveness increases about 16% compared to the base hole arrangement.
In order to construct a dam, the diversion facility such as cofferdam and a diversion tunnel should be installed in advance. And size of a cofferdam depends on type of a main dam. According to the Korea Dam Design Standard, if the main dam is a concrete dam, design flood of the cofferdam is 1~2 years flood frequency. This means that overflow of the cofferdam occurs one time for 1 or 2 years, therefore, stability of the cofferdam should be secured against any overflow problem. In this study, failure probability analysis for the concrete cofferdam is performed considering the overflow. First of all, limit state function of the concrete cofferdam is defined for overturning, sliding and base pressure, and upstream water levels are set as El. 501 m, El. 503 m, El. 505 m, El. 507 m. Also, after literature investigation research, probabilistic characteristics of various random variables are determined, the failure probability of the concrete cofferdam is calculated using the Monte Carlo Simulation. As a result of the analysis, when the upstream water level rises, it means overflow, the failure probability increases rapidly. In particular, the failure probability is largest in case of flood loading condition. It is considered that the high upstream water level causes increase of the upstream water pressure and the uplift pressure on the foundation. In addition, among the overturning, the sliding and the base pressure, the overturing is the major cause for the cofferdam failure considering the overflow.
PURPOSE. To investigate the biomechanical effect of marginal bone resorption (MBR) on the mandibular mini implant (MI)-retained overdenture (MI-OD) on the edentulous model. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The experimental mandibular edentulous model was modified from a commercial model with 2 mm thick artificial soft tissue under denture base. Two MIs (Φ2.6 mm × 10 mm) were bilaterally placed between the lateral incisor and the canine area and attached with magnetic attachments. Three groups were set up as follows: 1) alveolar bone around the MI without MBR (normal group), 2) with MBR to 1/2 the length of the implant (resorption group), and 3) complete denture (CD) without MI (CD group). Strain around the MI, pressure near the first molar area, and displacement of denture were simultaneously measured, loading up to 50 N under bilateral/unilateral loading. Statistical analysis was performed using independent-samples t test and one-way ANOVA (α=.05). RESULTS. The strain around the MI with MBR was approximately 1.5 times higher than that without MBR. The pressure in CD was higher than in MI-ODs (P<.05), while there was no statistical difference between the normal and resorption group (P>.05). Similarly, the CD demonstrated a greater displacement of the denture base than did the MI-ODs during bilateral and unilateral loadings (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The strain around the MI with MBR was approximately 1.5 times higher than that without MBR. The pressure on posterior alveolar ridge and denture displacement of MI-ODs significantly decreased compared to CDs, even when MBR occurs. Bilateral balanced occlusion was recommended for MI-ODs, especially when MBR occurred.

Pressure resistance welding is usually used to seal the connection between the cladding tube and the end plug made of zirconium alloy. The seal welded joint has a direct effect on the service performance of the fuel rod cladding structure. In this paper, the pressure resistance welded joints of zirconium alloy tube-plug structure were obtained by thermal-mechanical simulation experiments. The microstructure and microhardness of the joints were both analyzed. The effect of processing parameters on the microstructure was studied in detail. The results showed that there was no β-Zr phase observed in the joint, and no obvious element segregation. There were different types of Widmanstätten structure in the thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) and heat affected zone (HAZ) of the cladding tube and the end plug joint because of the low cooling rate. Some part of the grains in the joint grew up due to overheating. Its size was about 2.8 times that of the base metal grains. Due to the high dislocation density and texture evolution, the microhardnesses of TMAZ and HAZ were both significantly higher than that of the base metal, and the microhardness of the TMAZ was the highest. With the increasing of welding temperature, the proportion of recrystallization in TMAZ decreased, which was caused by the increasing of strain rate and dislocation annihilation.

A 4${\times}10^{19}cm^{3}$ carbon-doped base AlGaAs/GaAs HBY was grown using carbontetracholoride(CCl$_4$) by atmospheric pressure MOCVD. Abruptness of emitter-base junction was characterized by SIMS(secondary ion mass spectorscopy) and the doping concentration of base layer was confirmed by DXRD(double crystal X-ray diffractometry). Mesa-type HBTs were fabricated using wet etching and lift-off technique. The base sheet resistance of R$_{sheet}$=550${\Omega}$/square was measured using TLM(transmission line model) method. The fabricated transistor achieved a collector-base junction breakdown voltage of BV$_{CBO}$=25V and a critical collector current density of J$_{O}$=40kA/cm$^2$ at V$_{CE}$=2V. The 50$\times$100$\mu$$^2$ emitter transistor showed a common emitter DC current gain of h$_{FE}$=30 at a collector current density of JS1CT=5kA/cm$^2$ and a base current ideality factor of ηS1EBT=1.4. The high frequency characterization of 5$\times$50$\mu$m$^2$ emitter transistor was carried out by on-wafer S-parameter measurement at 0.1~18.1GHz. Current gain cutoff frequency of f$_{T}$=27GHz and maximum oscillation frequency of f$_{max}$=16GHz were obtained from the measured Sparameter and device parameters of small-signal lumped-element equivalent network were extracted using Libra software. The fabricated HBT was proved to be useful to high speed and power spplications.

DES method is applied to an axisymmetric base flow at supersonic mainstream. The model is based on the Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) turbulence model in the RANS mode, and is based on the subgrid scale model in the Large-eddy simulation (LES) mode. Accurate predictions of the base flowfield and base pressure are successfully achieved by using the DES methodology which is less expensive than LES. Flow properties at the edge of base, such as boundary layer thickness, momentum thickness and skin fraction are compared with Dutton et al [experimental data to proper prediction of base flowfiled. From the present results, The DES accurately resolves the physics of unsteady turbulent motions, such as shear layer rollup, large-eddy motions in the downstream region and small eddy motions inside the recirculating region. Moreover, The present results of using an empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 1.2 shows good agreement with experimental data than conventional empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 0.65.
