초고층 구조물의 지진해석을 위한 지진기록의 조정방법 (Scaling Method of Earthquake Records for the Seismic Analysis of Tall Buildings)

  • 최근 감쇠장치 등을 가진 초고층 건축물의 지진해석에 시간이력해석법이 자주 사용되고 있다. 지진기록은 구조물의 기본 진동주기를 T라 할 때 설계기준에서 요구하는 바와 같이 0.2T에서 1.5T 사이의 스펙트럼 값을 설계응답스펙트럼에 부합하게 조정되어 사용되고 있다. 설계기준에서 제시한 방법으로 조정할 경우 주기가 길어질수록 두 해석법 사이의 응답차이는 커지는 현상이 발생한다. 즉 설계기준에 의하여 조정된 지진기록을 사용하여 시간이력해석을 수행하면 밑면전단력 등은 비슷하지만 변위, 층간변위, 부재력 등은 적게 평가되는 현상이 발생하였다. 이들 결과에 밑면전단력 조정계수를 적용하면 응답이 더욱 작아지는 것을 확인하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인공지진을 만드는 데 어려움이 있는 엔지니어들을 위하여 기존 설계기준에 부합하는 지진기록 조정방법을 제시하였다.

복강경 수술로봇을 위한 실시간 운영체제 기반 제어 시스템의 개발 (Development of a Real-time OS Based Control System for Laparoscopic Surgery Robot)

  • This paper reports on a realtime OS based master-slave configuration robot control system for laparoscopic surgery robot which enables telesurgery and overcomes shortcomings with conventional laparoscopic surgery. Surgery robot system requires control system that can process large volume information such as medical image data and video signal from endoscope in real-time manner, as well as precisely control the robot with high reliability. To meet the complex requirements, the use of high-level real-time OS (Operating System) in surgery robot controller is a must, which is as common as in many of modem robot controllers that adopt real-time OS as a base system software on which specific functional modules are implemened for more reliable and stable system. The control system consists of joint controllers, host controllers, and user interface units. The robot features a compact slave robot with 5 DOF (Degree-Of-Freedom) expanding the workspace of each tool and increasing the number of tools operating simultaneously. Each master, slave and Gill (Graphical User Interface) host runs a dedicated RTOS (Real-time OS), RTLinux-Pro (FSMLabs Inc., U.S.A.) on which functional modules such as motion control, communication, video signal integration and etc, are implemented, and all the hosts are in a gigabit Ethernet network for inter-host communication. Each master and slave controller set has a dedicated CAN (Controller Area Network) channel for control and monitoring signal communication with the joint controllers. Total 4 pairs of the master/slave manipulators as current are controlled by one host controller. The system showed satisfactory performance in both position control precision and master-slave motion synchronization in both bench test and animal experiment, and is now under further development for better safety and control fidelity for clinically applicable prototype.

The Effect of Shoe Heel Types and Gait Speeds on Knee Joint Angle in Healthy Young Women - A Preliminary Study

  • The consequences of wearing high heels can be different according to the heel height, gait speed, shoe design, heel base area, and shoe size. This study aimed to focus on the knee extension and flexion range of motion (ROM) during gait, which were challenged by wearing five different shoe heel types and two different self-selected gait speeds (comfortable and fast) as experimental conditions. Measurement standards of knee extension and flexion ROM were individually calibrated at the time of heel strike, mid-stance, toe-off, and stance phase based on the 2-minute video recordings of each gait condition. Seven healthy young women (20.7 ± 0.8 years) participated and they were asked to walk on a treadmill wearing the five given shoes at a self-selected comfortable speed (average of 2.4 ± 0.3 km/h) and a fast speed (average of 5.1 ± 0.2 km/h) in a random order. All of the shoes were in size 23.5 cm. Three of the given shoes were 9.0 cm in height, the other two were flat shoes and sneakers. A motion capture software (Kinovea 0.8.27) was used to measure the kinematic data; changes in the knee angles during each gait. During fast speed gait, the knee extension angles at heel strike and mid-stance were significantly decreased in all of the 3 high heels (p<0.05). The results revealed that fast gait speed causes knee flexion angle to significantly increase at toe-off in all five types of shoes. However, there was a significant difference in both the knee flexion and extension angles when the gait in stiletto heels and flat shoes were compared in fast gait condition (p<0.05). This showed that walking fast in high heels leads to abnormal knee ROM and thus can cause damages to the knee joints. The findings in this preliminary study can be a basis for future studies on the kinematic changes in the lower extremity during gait and for the analysis of causes and preventive methods for musculoskeletal injuries related to wearing high heels.

9.12 경주지진 및 11.15 포항지진의 구조손상 포텐셜 비교연구 (Comparative Analysis of Structural Damage Potentials Observed in the 9.12 Gyeongju and 11.15 Pohang Earthquakes)

  • In this paper, comparative analysis of the 9.12 Gyeongju and 11.15 Pohang earthquakes was conducted in order to provide probable explanations and reasons for the damage observed in the 11.15 Pohang earthquake from both earthquake and structural engineering perspectives. The damage potentials like Arias intensity, effective peak ground acceleration, etc observed in the 11.15 Pohang earthquake were generally weaker than those of the 9.12 Gyeongju earthquake. However, in contrast to the high-frequency dominant nature of the 9.12 Gyeongju earthquake records, the spectral power of PHA2 record observed in the soft soil site was highly concentrated around 2Hz. The base shear around 2 Hz frequency was as high as 40% building weight. This frequency band is very close to the fundamental frequency of the piloti-type buildings severely damaged in the northern part of Pohang. Unfortunately, in addition to inherent vertical irregularity, most of the damaged piloti-type buildings had plan irregularity as well and were non-seismic. All these contributed to the fatal damage. Inelastic dynamic analysis indicated that PHA2 record demands system ductility capacity of 3.5 for a structure with a fundamental period of 0.5 sec and yield base shear strength of 10% building weight. The system ductility level of 3.5 seems very difficult to be achievable in non-seismic brittle piloti-type buildings. The soil profile of the PHA2 site was inversely estimated based on deconvolution technique and trial-error procedure with utilizing available records measured at several rock sites during the 11.15 Pohang earthquake. The soil profile estimated was very typical of soil class D, implying significant soil amplification in the 11.15 Pohang earthquake. The 11.15 Pohang earthquake gave us the expensive lesson that near-collapse damage to irregular and brittle buildings is highly possible when soil is soft and epicenter is close, although the earthquake magnitude is just minor to moderate (M 5+).

소화근처 헵탄 풀화재의 화염불안정성 (Flame Instability in Heptane Pool Fires Near Extinction)

  • 액체연료를 사용하는 풀화재에서 화염불안정성에 대하여 산화제 유속변화와 농도변화의 효과를 알아보기 위해 컵버너 실험을 수행하였다. 연료는 헵탄을 사용하였고, 산화제는 공기에 질소와 이산화탄소를 희석하였다. 소화근처에서 축방향 및 화염 밑면에서 두 가지 형태의 대표적인 불안정성이 관찰되었다. 화염 밑면에서 발생되는 불안정성은 셀, 스윙, 회전 모드로 특성화 할 수 있고, 산화제의 유속이 증가할수록 모든 불활성 기체에서 셀, 스윙 모드에서 회전모드로 천이하였다. 이러한 화염밑면 불안정성에 영향을 미치는 변수들을 파악하기 위하여 초기혼합률, Le 수, 단열화염온도에 대해서도 함께 조사되었다. 이 중 Le 수가 불안정성 모드와 가장 큰 상관관계를 보이고 있지만 보다 정확한 관계를 규명하기 위해서는 더 많은 실험조건에서의 결과가 요구된다. 또한, 소화농도근처의 화염에서는 유속이 작거나 큰 경우에는 축방향 주기적인 진동불안정성이 나타나지 않고, 적절한 산화제 속도 영역에서만 관찰된다. 이는 작은 유속에서는 증발하는 연료속도가 임계유속이하이며, 큰 유속에서는 반응중인 연료유속과 산화제 유속이 유사하기 때문으로 판단된다.

첨성대 수치와 역할에 대한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE CHUMSUNGDAE'S FIGURES AND FUNCTIONS)

  • Chumsungdae is an ancient astronomical observatory whose main role was doing 'chunmoon'. It was administrate by a royal advisory agency on state affairs. The observers observed the heaven on the observatory platform, recorded peculiar events, and watched and interpreted the signs displayed in the heaven. Chumsungdae is an stonemasonry which represents almanac principles with its peculiar shapes and the numbers of strata and stones. The numbers were thoroughly invented to match exactly the almanac constants. Chumsungdae is comprised largely of three main parts, namely the square base, the stratified cylindrical body, and the top #-shaped stonework, and the total number of stones is 404. The number of the strata (27) and the height of the cylindrical body (27 尺) stand for the days in a sidereal month (27.3 days), which implies that the motion of the Moon with respect to the stars was given more priority than to the Sun at that time of geocentricism. And the cylindrical body was thoroughly designed to consist of 365 stones, which is of course the number of days in a solar year. In addition, there are 12 strata each under and above the south entrance and this in sum makes the 24 divisions of the year. Also there is 182 stones below the 13th stratum and this represents the number of days in the winter ~ summer solstice period, and the rest 183 stones the vice versa. The #-shaped top stonework was aligned in such a way that one of the diagonals points the direction of sunrise on the winter solstice. The square base also layed with the same manner. The south entrance was built 16 degrees SE, and the upright direction of the right pillar stone coincides with the meridian circle. This was a kind of built-in standard meridian circle facilitating the observations. In a symbolic sense, Chumsungdae was thought as the tunnel reaching the heaven, where the observers wished to be enlightened with the signs and inspirations in need. With the craftsmanship and skill, the builder reinforced the stratified cylindrical body with two sets of #-shaped beam stones, piercing at a right angle at 19th ~ 20th and 25th ~ 26th strata. Likewise, by placing the double #-shaped stonework with 8 beam stones on the platform of the observatory, both the stability of the stonemasonry and a guard rail for the nightly observers were securely provided.

A Study on CFD Analysis to Investigate the Effects of Different Feed Rate into the High Temperature H2SO4 Transferring Pump at Fixed Frequency

  • In this study, to apply hydrogen energy to ship engine and to generate effective hydrogen production, we investigated the effects of high temperature $H_2SO_4$ feed rate and cooling water rate to pump parts with fixed frequency needed to reciprocate motion and a simulation was conducted at each condition. In the fixed frequency and cooling water inlet flow rate of 0.5 Hz and 3.9 kg/s, we changed the high temperature $H_2SO_4$ flow rate to 47.46 kg/s (it is 105 % of 45.2 kg/s), 49.72 kg/s (110 %), and 51.98 kg/s (115 %). Also, at 0.5 Hz and 45.2 kg/s of frequency and high temperature $H_2SO_4$ flow, the thermal hydraulic analysis was performed at the condition of 95 % (3.705 kg/s), 90 % (3.51 kg/s), and 85 % (3.315 kg/s). In overall simulation cases, the physical properties of materials are more influential to the temperature increase in the pump part rather than the changes on the feed rate of high temperature $H_2SO_4$ and cooling water. A continuous operation of pump was also capable even if the excess feed of high temperature $H_2SO_4$ of about 15 % or the less feed of cooling water of about 15 % were performed, respectively. When the increasing feed of high temperature $H_2SO_4$ of up to 5 %, 10 %, and 15 % were compared with base flow (45.2 kg/s), the deviation of time period rose to a certain temperature and ranged from 0 to 4.5 s in the same position (same material). In case of cooling water, the deviation of time period rose to a certain temperature and ranged from 0 to 5.9 s according to the decreasing feed changes of cooling water at 5 %, 10 %, and 15 % compared to a base flow (3.9 kg/s). Finally, the additional researches related to the two different materials (Teflon and STS for Pitch and End-plate), which are concerned about the effects of temperature changes to the parts contacting different materials, are needed, and we have a plan to conduct a follow-up study.

모바일 기기를 위한 H.264 인코더의 최적 매개변수의 결정 (Optimal Parameter Selection of H.264 Encoder For Mobile Devices)

  • 최근 스마트폰과 태블릿과 같은 소형 모바일 기기가 확산됨에 따라, 모바일 기기에서 동영상 촬영시 이용되는 비디오 인코더의 성능 최적화의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 기기를 대상으로 하는 H.264/AVC 기본 프로파일 비디오 인코더를 모바일 기기에 구현하고, 실험을 통해 H.264 인코더의 주요 제어 변수를 최적화하였다. 실험으로는 인코더의 복잡도에 영향을 주는 것으로 알려진 라그랑지안 최적화, 하다마드 변환, 움직임 벡터 탐색 범위, I-프레임 주기, 참조 프레임 수를 다양하게 조합하여 변화시키면서 동영상의 화질, 비트율, 인코딩 시간, 움직임 추정 시간 그리고, 인코딩에 따라 보드에서 소모되는 전력을 측정하였다. 실험에서 측정된 데이터를 분석하여, 모바일 기기에서의 비디오 인코더에서 요구되는 조건을 만족할 수 있는 최적의 H.264/AVC 제어 변수를 위의 다섯 가지 기능 모듈에 대해 결정하였다.

A Study on Infra-Technology of RCP Interaction System

  • The RT(Robot Technology) has been developed as the next generation of a future technology. According to the 2002 technical report from Mitsubishi R&D center, IT(Information Technology) and RT(Robotic Technology) fusion system will grow five times larger than the current IT market at the year 2015. Moreover, a recent IEEE report predicts that most people will have a robot in the next ten years. RCP(Robotic Cellular Phone), CP(Cellular Phone) having personal robot services, will be an intermediate hi-tech personal machine between one CP a person and one robot a person generations. RCP infra consists of $RCP^{Mobility}$, $RCP^{Interaction}$, $RCP^{Integration}$ technologies. For $RCP^{Mobility}$, human-friendly motion automation and personal service with walking and arming ability are developed. $RCP^{Interaction}$ ability is achieved by modeling an emotion-generating engine and $RCP^{Integration}$ that recognizes environmental and self conditions is developed. By joining intelligent algorithms and CP communication network with the three base modules, a RCP system is constructed. Especially, the RCP interaction system is really focused in this paper. The $RCP^{interaction}$(Robotic Cellular Phone for Interaction) is to be developed as an emotional model CP as shown in figure 1. $RCP^{interaction}$ refers to the sensitivity expression and the link technology of communication of the CP. It is interface technology between human and CP through various emotional models. The interactive emotion functions are designed through differing patterns of vibrator beat frequencies and a feeling system created by a smell injection switching control. As the music influences a person, one can feel a variety of emotion from the vibrator's beats, by converting musical chord frequencies into vibrator beat frequencies. So, this paper presents the definition, the basic theory and experiment results of the RCP interaction system. We confirm a good performance of the RCP interaction system through the experiment results.

비보강 조적조의 동적 거동 (Dynamic Response of Unreinforced Masonry Building)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라에서 저층 주거용 건물로 널리 사용되고 있는 2층 규모의 비보강조적조 의 1/3 축소 모델에 대한 진동대 실험을 수행한 것이다. 본 연구의 주목적은 내진설계가 이루어지지 않은 조적조 건물의 내진거동을 살펴보고, 실험적 자료를 확보하는데 있다. 실험대상구조물은 횡방향으로는 대칭이지만 종방향으로는 약간 비대칭이고, 비교적 강한 다이어프램을 나타내는 콘크리트 슬래브로 되어있다. 실험체에 대한 모의 지진하중은 가속도를 점차 증가시켜가면서 종방향으로 가력하였다. 실험에서 얻은 구조물의 동적 응답자료는 진동대의 입력지진과 연관지어서 분석하였다. 더욱이 성능기초설계를 위한 성능수준을 제시하였다. 실험결과 1층에서의 전단파괴가 지배적이고 상부층은 강체거동을 보여주었다. 또한 균열 발생후에도 상당한 강도와 변형능력을 보유하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
