  • Cast austenitic stainless steel piping pump, valve casings, and elbows are susceptible to reductions in toughness and ductility because of long term exposure at the operating temperatures in LWR(light water reactor). In this paper, we have measured the material properties of long term aged CF-8A cast stainless steel, accelerated aging at $400^{\circ}C$. These studies have been carried out using Indentation tests(automated ball indentation and nano-indentation) and EDS(energy dispersive spectroscopy). The fracture toughness of CF-8A cast stainless steel was also determined by using standard fracture toughness and Automated Ball Indentation.

  • The discrimination of flaw shape and sizing is very important subject in the material evaluation for semiconductor and new materials. The aim of this paper is to investigate the spectrum analysis of artificial defect signal captured from steel ball embedded in the resin. The results show that it can be evaluated quantitatively the size of artificial defect, from the amplitude variation of same frequency if the probe with same diameter and focal length is used. Comparing with the amplitude variation of the high frequency component and low frequency component obtained from the distance of defect center position, it can be estimated steel ball and flat bottm defect.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed HMC spindle system with angular contact ball bearings, built-in motor, oil-jet lubrication method, oil jacket cooling method, and so on. The spindle system is composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by a flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of spindle system is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution, heat flow and thermal deformation under the various testing conditions related to material of bearing ball, spindle speed and coolant temperature.

  • Following conclusions are made from the detalied research on the relation between the phase change of the petroleum raw cokes after ball milling and the preheat treatment temperature. The petroleum raw cokes species are preheated in the temperature range of 350~45$0^{\circ}C$. At the preheat treatment temperature of 40$0^{\circ}C$ the particles of petroleum raw cokes from ball milling become spheically shape with the almost uniform particle size distribution of 1~5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. At the same temperature, they became low-graphitized with the d0.02 X-ray diffraction index of 3.41$\AA$. The carbon material made from the petroleum raw cokes at 40$0^{\circ}C$ turned out to have the good modulus of rupture about 600kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, with the bulk density around 1.8g/㎤ and the appearent porosity around 8%.

  • 1. Stage crushing by jaw crusher, steel mortar, and ball mill in turn has shown an inclination to increase the distribution of andalusite in coarse particles as well as to increase that of micas in fine particles. 2. Water elutriation was effective for the removal of muscovite and magnetic separation was effective for that of Mg-Fe micas such as biotte and chlorite. The process of concentration and that of purification are diagramatized respectively as follows: Concentration; Raw andalusite${\lightarrow}$Crushing${\lightarrow}$Screening${\lightarrow}$Water elutriation${\lightarrow}$Magnetic separation Purification; Concentrated andalusite${\lightarrow}$Calcination${\lightarrow}$Ball milling${\lightarrow}$Screening${\lightarrow}$Water elutriation${\lightarrow}$Magnetic separation${\lightarrow}$Acid washing.

  • This study presents a new type of CNC interpolator that is capable of generating cutter paths for ball-end milling of NURBS surfaces. The proposed surface interpolator comprises real-time algorithms for cutter contact (CC) path scheduling and CC path interpolator. Especially in this study, a new interpolator module to regulate cutting forces is developed. This propose algorithm utilizes variable-feedrate commands along the CC path according to the curvature of machined surfaces during the interpolation process. Additionally, it proposes an OpenGL graphic library for computer graphics and animation of interpolated tool-position display. The proposed interpolator is evaluated and compared with the existing method based on constant feedrates through computer simulations.

  • In order to investigate the possibility of processing of brittle material by ball impact, the effects of boundary conditions about impact damage of soda-lime glass by small spheres were evaluated experimentally. It was investigated that crack appearance developed in soda-lime glass with boundary conditions of without sealing, single-sealing and double-sealing by impact velocity. The double-sealing was most effective in the development of perfect cone than other boundary condition. In case of double-sealing condition, PVC and Polyurethane sealing were more effective in producing a perfect cone formation than other sealing materials. The impact velocity range over which perfect cones were formed was influenced by both the contact area and diameter of impact particle.

  • Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally. Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four corners. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies (0~200Hz), and sound pressure levels (80~100dB) as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints.

  • In view of the effects of the hardness of material on fatigue, rolling contact fatigue process in hard metals seems to differ from it in soft metals. This paper has been aimed to compare the rolling contact fatigue process according to the hardness of materials. Rolling contact fatigue tests using the ball bearings assembled with the inner race of four different hardness have been carried out. In addition, residual stress and half-value breadth on/below the inner raceway during individual rolling contact fatigue have been measured by X-ray diffraction. The results of this study showed that the change of residual stress and half-value breadth during the rolling contact fatigue on race way in hard metals is the same as in soft metals. However, plastic deformation by rolling contact in hard metals is in microscopic scale but only for soft metals in macroscopic scale.
