  • The smoke exhaust system is one of the effective systems to save lives when fire occurs underground. This study presents a complete analysis of effective smoke exhaust and smoke characteristics for a fire occurring with a transverse ventilation system use as a smoke exhaust system. The performance of the smoke management system was studied by computer modeling using FDS version 3.1. A fire size of 20MW was used for tunnel with balanced exhaust transverse ventilation. The smoke management design and the procedure as simulated in this study are also compliant to the tunnel construction and fire codes of Korea.

  • In this paper, the active integrated antenna(AIA) using a wideband printed dipole antenna and a balanced amplifier is designed and fabricated. The proposed active printed dipole antenna has characteristics of easy matching, wide bandwidth and higher output power To feed balanced signal to printed dipole, a Wilkinson power divider and delay lines are used. The measured result shows that, at 6 GHz center frequency, the impedance bandwidth is 22 % (VSWR < 2), 3 dB gain bandwidth is 28 %, the maximum gain is 14.77 dBi, and output power at P1 dB point is 23 dBm.

  • In this paper, we design hybrid limitter balanced(HLB) power amplifier with W-CDMA signal input. Balanced power amplifier is important component that decide efficiency in communication system. General balanced power amplifier has low efficiency and high distortion characteristics. Therefore, we embodied two path with limitter that amplitude path had high efficiency amplifier using limitter and phase path had high linear amplifier to improve such problem.

  • This paper presents the results of experimental investigation, numerical calculation and theoretical analysis on axial compression ratio limit values for steel reinforced concrete (SRC) special shaped columns. 17 specimens were firstly intensively carried out to investigate the hysteretic behavior of SRC special shaped columns subjected to a constant axial load and cyclic reversed loads. Two theories were used to calculate the limits of axial compression ratio for all the specimens, including the balanced failure theory and superposition theory. It was found that the results of balanced failure theory by numerical integration method cannot conform the reality of test results, while the calculation results by employing the superposition theory can agree well with the test results. On the basis of superposition theory, the design limit values of axial compression ratio under different seismic grades were proposed for SRC special shaped columns.

  • A fully balanced differential amplifier can achieve high-gain wide-bandwidth characteristics. And also, Offset PSRR, CMRR and Noise performance of that are excellent, but these merits can be achieved only when the architecture holds fully balanced. Commonly, the fully balanced differential amplifier has a common mode feedback(CMFB) circuit in order to maintain the balance. This paper presents improved characteristics of the CMFB circuit and designs the wide-bandwidth CMOS Op-amp. The unity gain bandwidth of this Op-amp is 50MHz with the load capacitor 2pF, and the value of phase margin is $85^{\circ}$.

  • This study comprehensively reviewed four types of integrated-optic electric-field sensors based on titanium diffused lithium-niobate waveguides: symmetric and asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers, 1×2 directional couplers, and Y-fed balanced-bridge Mach-Zehnder interferometers. First, we briefly explain the crystal properties and electro-optic effect of lithium niobate and the waveguide fabrication process. We theoretically analyzed the key parameters and operating principles of each sensor and antennas. We also describe and compare the design, simulation, implementation, and performance tests: dc and ac characteristics, frequency response, dynamic range, and sensitivity. The experimental results revealed that the sensitivity of the sensor based on the Y-fed balanced bridge Mach-Zehnder interferometer (YBB-MZI) was higher than that of the other types of sensors.

  • In a Balanced Factorial Experiments (BFE) with n factors $F_1, F_2,\cdots,F_n$ at $m_1, m_2,\cdots,m_n$ levels respectively, Shah [15] has considered the following association scheme: the two treatments are the $(P_1, P_2,\cdot,P_n)$th associates, where $p_i=1$ if the ith factor occurs at the same level in both treatments and $p_i=0$ otherwise; $\lambda_{(p_1,p_2,\cdots,p_n)}$ will denote the number of times these treatments occur together in a block. He has showed that a BFE is partially Blanced Incomplete Block(PBIB) design with repsect to the above association scheme. Kurjian and Zelan [6] have proved that factorial designs possessing a Property A (a particular structure for their matrix NN') are factorially balanced.

  • This paper presents the design and measurement of a 2.4/5.2-GHz dual band VCO with a balanced frequency doubler in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The topology of a 2.4 GHz VCO is a cross-coupled VCO with a LC tank and the frequency of the VCO is doubled by a frequency balanced doubler for a 5.2 GHz VCO. The gate bias matching network for class B operation in the balanced doubler is adopted to obtain as much power at 2nd harmonic output as possible. The average output powers of the 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz VCOs are -12 dBm and -13 dBm, respectively, the doubled VCO has fundamental harmonic suppression of -25 dB. The measured phase noises at 5 MHz frequency offset are -123 dBc /Hz from 2.6 GHz and -118 dBc /Hz from 5.1 GHz. The total size of the dual band VCO is $1.0\;mm{\times}0.9\;mm$ including pads.

  • In this paper, we develop a 94-GHz single balanced mixer with low conversion loss using planar Schottky diodes on a GaAs substrate. The GaAs Schottky diode has a nanoscale anode with a T-shaped disk that can yield high cutoff frequency characteristics. The fabricated Schottky diode with an anode diameter of 500 nm has a series resistance of 21 Ω, an ideality factor of 1.32, a junction capacitance of 8.03 fF, and a cutoff frequency of 944 GHz. Based on this technology, a 94-GHz single balanced mixer was constructed. The fabricated mixer shows an average conversion loss of -7.58 dB at an RF frequency of 92.5 GHz to 95 GHz and an IF frequency of 500 MHz with an LO power of 7 dBm. The RF-to-LO isolation characteristics were greater than -32 dB. These values are considered to be attributed to superior Schottky diode characteristics.

  • This paper describes characteristics of the single-balanced low IF resistive FET mixer for the digital beam forming(DBF) receiver. This DBF receiver based on the direct conversion method is designed with Low IF I and Q channel. A radio frequency(RF), a local oscillator(LO) and an intermediate frequency(IF) considered in this research are 1950 MHz, 1940 MHz and 10 MHz, respectively. Super low noise HJ FET of NE3210S01 is considered in design. The measured results of the proposed mixer are observed IF output power of -22.8 dBm without spurious signal at 10 MHz, conversion loss of -12.8 dB, isolation characteristics of -20 dB below, 1 dB gain compression point(PldB) of -3.9 dBm, input third order intercept point(IIP3) of 20 dBm, output third order intercept point(OIP3) of 4 dBm and dynamic range of 30 dBm. The proposed mixer has 1.0 dB higher IIP3 than previously published single-balanced resistive and GaAs FET mixers, and has 3.0 dB higher IIP3 and 4.3 dB higher PldB than CMOS mixers. This mixer was fabricated on 0.7874 mm thick microstrip $substrate(\varepsilon_r=2.5)$ and the total size is $123.1\;mm\times107.6\;mm$.
