The paper presents investigations on to which degree the sinking speed of longlines is influenced by type of bait, bait sinking orientations and anchor weights. The main aim of this study is to obtain further insight in the ocean current displacement phenomena in demersal longlining. The sinking speed is one of the main factors deciding the current displacement. In an ongoing project, sinking speed experiments with longlines with 6 kg and 10 kg anchor weights have been carried out in the Trondheim fjord. The longlines used in the first experiments were rigged without bait and hook. The results of these experiments with two different anchor weights have revealed only a slight difference in the sinking speed, except for the part near to the anchors, even though the sinking speed of longlines in general is supposed to be much influenced by the anchor weights. The reason for the obtained result is supposed to be that the experiments have been carried out at relative shallow waters. Further studies have included bait sinking experiments in the flume tank. The experiments showed that the drag coefficient of "fillet type (flat)" bait varied from 0.763 to 1.735, while it for "elliptic type" bait varied from 0.62 to 1.483. Other activities have included calculation of the sinking speed of longlines as a function of the established resistance coefficients of bait of various shape and size for commercial longlining. The calculated sinking speed of a longline with the fillet type bait was found to be 12.4 to 16.5% lower than for a longline without bait.

In order to evaluate the biodegradability of bait used in the pot for swimming crab, water tank experiments were conducted. Mackerel is the most commonly used natural form of bait to catch the swimming crabs, and therefore was used in this experiment for the biodegradability according to the manufacturing process of the bait. From the biodegradability test on chemical oxygen demand(COD), total nitrogen(T - N), total phosphorus(T - P), ammoniac nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen per unit weight of the bait based on the production rate and the accumulated amount of pollutants, it was concluded that the smaller the size of the mackerel pieces, the higher the production rate and accumulated amount of organic matter and nutrients which was unfavorable to water pollution. The amount of pollutants released from the intestine of the tuna was similar with that from the whole mackerel. For the operation period of 111 days, the accumulated concentrations of tested pollutants from the tuna which were 67.3 mgCOD/g d, 86.4 mgT N/g d, 3.1 mgT - P/g d, were almost half comparing with those from the mackerel which were 65.7 - 94.4 mgCOD/g d, 83.8 - 109.4 mgT - N/g d, 3.1 - 5.2 mgT - P/g d. The amount of pollutants released from the intestine of the tuna was slightly less than that from the mackerel that was cut into 8 pieces. but more than that from the mackerel which was not cut into pieces. Therefore, it can be concluded that the key factor in determining water pollution potential is not the kind of bait, but the processing or preparation method used.

The single line hook fishery for giant pacific octopus, Parotopus dofleini is one of the important in coastal Kangwon-do of Korea, where was caught an average of 4,000 ton during the period of 1996~2000. The fishing gear is consisted of a single buoy line, a buoy and a hook. In this study, the responses of giant pacific octopus to single line hook gear were examined in an experimental tank using a video camera in order to know hooking mechanism and improve hook. Giant pacific octopus tend to envelop the bait with their arms by rush or slowly swimming towards it. When they rush to the bait, they show much feeding behaviour as withdrawing after enveloping the bait using two arms. But when they approach with slowly swimming to bait, they show feeding behaviour as stopping after enveloping the bait using one arm. and then, the highly hooking rate appeared more often in the case of latter then former. The average feeding time on a sardine, giant pacific octopus and pork fat showed the range of 1 to 30 min, 10 to 50 min, and 50 min to over 1 hour, respectively. This indicates that it takes longer time for giant pacific octopus to eat the tough meat than the soft meat. The performance concerned with hooking showed that the 'B' type hook with a short shank was more favorable than the 'A' type hook with a long shank. However, the 'A' type hook has the advantage of easy dropping out caught octopus, compared to the 'B' type.

A pelagic tuna longline research cruise in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean from September to October of 2006 was conducted to compare catch rates with the use of different hook type and bait combinations. Traditional tuna hooks (J 4) and three circle hook types (C15, C16, C18), along with five bait types (chub mackerel (CM), jack mackerel (JM), milkfish (MF), sardine (SD), and squid (SQ)) and hook number as a proxy for hook depth were evaluated for their effect on bigeye tuna catch rates (fish per 1,000 hooks) using Generalized Linear Models (GLMs). Results from 28 sets indicated significant differences in bigeye catch rates between individual longline sets and hook number. The GLM explained 33% of the deviance in bigeye catch rates with these two factors. An alternative model formulation included bait type which had a small effect (explaining 2.7% of the deviance) on catch rates. Hook type had a negligible and non-significant effect in the GLMs. These results indicate that all of the hooks and baits tested are equally effective at catching bigeye tuna and that hook number (depth) was the paramount operational factor in explaining bigeye tuna catch rates.
Historical wooden buildings in Korea are being damaged by Reticulitermes speratus kyushuensis Morimoto, a type of subterranean termite, and the scale of this damage is increasing gradually because of global warming. This study evaluated the ingestion toxicity of the phenylpyrazole insecticide fipronil to R. s. kyushuensis and its applicability as termite bait with the aim of controlling termite colonies more efficiently. An ingestion toxicity assessment was conducted and the $LT_{50}$ was determined to be 4.43 day at concentrations of 10 ppm, indicating a slow-acting effect; therefore, 10 ppm was selected as an appropriate dose. A field applicability assessment was conducted in which the number of foraging workers and the rate at which the termites fed decreased 2 weeks after baiting, and termite colony activity was no longer apparent after 4 weeks demonstrating the efficacy of fipronil at eliminating colonies. Taken together, these results, indicate that low-dose fipronil eliminated R. s. kyushuensis colonies faster than insect growth regulators; therefore, it is expected to be useful when trying to conserve historical wooden buildings.

In this paper, the I-transform of the Mellin convolution type is presented. Based on the Mellin transform theory, a general integral transform of the Mellin convolution type is introduced. The generating operators for I-transform together with the corresponding operational relations are also presented.
Difference of the entering and the escaping behaviour of shrimp(Palaemon pacificus) to the model traps were observed in accordance with netting materials, baits, type of traps and slope of flapper, and gathering responses were also investigated on the odour of bait extracts in the aquarium as the preliminary test. In order to investigate the difference in catch according to type and structure of traps those designated from A to E were made of iron frames and nettings. The type A was a conical shape with two entrances at its both sides and the others were square piller shape with one entrance at their upper surface(type B) or two entrance at their both ends(type C, D and E). However th type D and E were connected with flapper and the thye E was made by attaching iron frames of same height under the type D. The traps were prepared 10 each and so a total of 50 traps were used in the experiment at sea. The main species caught was Charybdis japonica, but Astroconger myriaster was also caught fairly. The catches of these species were significant in difference between the types of traps. That is, Charybdis japonica was caught more in type A, C and D than others and less in type B and E, and Astroconger myriaster was caught more in type A and D and less in type B and E. However the catch of Astroconger myriaster in type C, even if less than that in type A showed no significant difference with the other traps. The total catch of Charybdis japonica and Astroconger myriaster was almost same in order with the catch of Charybdis japonica. The type B and E seemed to be difficult in entering of fishes into them. However, the type A and C seemed to be easy not only in entering, but also in escaping. Especially, the type C showed more escaping. On the other hand, the type D seemed to be not so easy in entering of fishes as type A and C, but very difficult in escaping. Consequently, the escaping of fishes from the traps seemed to be more difficult in conical traps than any other traps. The catches might be influenced by the bait with bag compare to without bag and also the immersed time of traps into water for fishing.

The behaviour of shrimp in response to the trap was much influenced by the type, size and the dimensions of entrance as well as physiological and ecological conditions. The entry and the escape behaviour of shrimp to the model trap were observed in accordance with netting materials, baits, type and slope of entrance, and gathering response were also investigated on the odour of bait extracts in the aquarium from June to August, 1983. Entering shrimp to the circular entrance was significantly more than to the triangular or the square; however, no differences were found in the entry behacior among netting materials i e., P. A, P. E. and cotton. According as the slope of entrance was increased its angle from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$, number of entering shrimp was decreased; however, number of escaping shrimp at 30$^{\circ}$or 60$^{\circ}$ with time was fewer than at 0$^{\circ}$ or 90$^{\circ}$. Gathering responses of shrimp on the odours were more sensitive to the flesh of mackerel or the shrimp than to the pickled anchovy, or the pettitioes, while no differences were found between another bait extracts, i e., the shrimp and the flesh of mackerel, the short-necked clam and the horse mackerel, the flesh and the viscera of mackerel.

We conducted experiments to compare the catch rate of bigeye tuna and yellowfin tuna between circle hooks and straight shank hook in the Korean tuna longline fishery at the eastern and central Pacific Ocean from 2005 to 2007. We analyzed difference of fork length, survival and hooking location between a circle hook and a straight shank hook for both tunas, respectively. There was no difference in the mean fork length size of yellowfin tuna caught on the two type of hook but bigeye tuna was significant. In case of survival, there was no difference between two hook type, but the difference of hooking location was significant for both species. We also analyzed to find determinants of both tunas catch rate using generalized linear models (GLMs) which were used latitude, longitude, year, month, depth, hook type, bait type and so on as independent variables. Spatial factors, latitude and longitude, and temporal factors, year and month, affected catch rate of bigeye tuna and yellowfin tuna. And also, depth such as a marine environment factor was influenced on catch rate.

In order to analyze the cellular proteins which interact with core protein of hepatitis C virus (HCV), a yeast two-hybrid screening technique was employed. A carboxyl terminus truncated core protein, which contained amino acid residues from the 1st to 120th, was used as a bait to screen cellular proteins. The expression library prepared from HeLa cell was screened and 400 positive clones were selected. The 75 clones from the positive clones were sequenced and analyzed by undergoing the Blast search. Interestingly, 7 out of the 75 clones encoded E7 antigen of human papilloma virus (HPV). We studied in detail the Interaction between the truncated version of HCV core and E7 antigen in vitro. The core$_{120}$ protein expressed in chimeric form with G57 was able to bring down the E7 protein of HPV type 18 expressed in bacteria. It is therefore suggested that the core of HCV might affect the interaction between E7 and a normal cellular tumor suppressor, known as Rb protein.
