대단위(大單位) 낙농목장(酪農牧場)에서의 소전염성결막각막염(傳染性結膜角膜炎)(IBK)의 임상적(臨床的) 및 세균학적(細菌學的) 관찰(觀察) (Clinical Bacteriological and Observations on Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) in an Integrated Dairy Farm)

  • A group of 80 Holstein calves, many with clinical signs of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis in summer seasons, was assembled for bacteriologic and ophthalmologic studies at an integrated dairy farm. Observations were started from 1980 to 1984 but bacteriological study was only carried out from thor spring in 1981 and continued during the Autumn in 1981. Corneal lesions and drugs sensitivity were also observed and the results obtained were as follows: 1. Occurrences of IBK-affected cattle during the 5 years were predominent to calves in summer. 2. Among 142 eyes from 80 cattle, 53 isolates of Moraxella bovis(37.3%) were isolated from 37 cattle(46.3%). The prevalence of the infection for clinical eyes were higher than nonclinical eyes calves. 3. Miscellaneous organisms were found from age groups of 5 months to 9 months old. It were 8 hemolytic Neisseria spp., 3 Fungi, Mycoplasma sp. and 1 Pseudomonas sp., but 9 samples were unknown. 4. Prevalence of infection with M. bovis in bilateral clinical eyes were higher than unilateral eyes. 5. Incidence of corneal lesion was predominent in early stage as a watery tears(21.0%) and late stage as a leukomas of corneal opacity(22.8%). 6. The number of isolations of M. bovis and incidence of IBK varied from year to year; Higher incidence of IBK clinical signs were showed in calves from 5 months to 10 months old and the number of isolations of M. bovis was declined in order 8 months(100.0%), 4 months(75.0%), 5 months(66.6%) and 8 months(66.6%) old calves. 7. Chloramphenicol, Nitrofurantoin and Cephalothin were highly sensitive against M. bovis isolates and then Tetracycline, Neomycin, Erythromycin and Kanamycin were intermediate but low sensitive to Streptomycin, Colistin and Penicillin.

Pathological, immunohistochemical, and bacteriological findings in dogs infected with Brucella canis

  • This study describes pathological, immunohistochemical, and bacteriological findings in adult dogs and fetuses naturally infected with Brucella (B.) canis. A total of 42 dogs including 40 dogs and 2 aborted fetuses were examined. The most common gross lesions in infected dogs were swelling of lymph nodes and spleen. The testes showed marked swelling with multifocal to diffuse reddish discoloration. The most significant histopathological lesions were observed in the placenta. Placental trophoblasts were markedly hypertrophied due to the accumulation of intra-cellular gram-negative bacteria. Lymphocytic inflammation of varying severity was observed in the reproductive organs such as male testis, epididymis, and prostate gland and female uterus. Strong immunolabelling was observed in the cytoplasm of most trophoblasts in the placental tissues using immunohistochemistry. However, immunohistochemical staining did not demonstrate any organisms in other organs of dogs and fetuses. B. canis isolates were most frequently obtained from the whole blood (82.5%) and superficial inguinal lymph node (77.5%) in both sexes. In addition, the isolation rate was higher in male genital organs than in those of females. Hence, management of male dogs is most important because infected dogs can play a role as carriers.

Intramammary preparation of enrofloxacin hydrochloride-dihydrate for bovine mastitis (biofilm-forming Staphylococcus aureus)

  • Background: Chronic bovine mastitis is linked to biofilm-producing Staphylococcus aureus (bp-Sa) or Staphylococcus coagulase-negative (bp-Scn). Objectives: Bp-Sa and bp-Scn were treated with intramammary preparations of either enrofloxacin HCl·2H2O-dimethyl-sulfoxide-chitosan (enro-C/DMSO/chitosan) or enro-C alone. Their potential to inhibit and degrade biofilm formation in vitro was also assessed. Methods: Milk samples were obtained from the affected quarters in a herd. Phenotypical and genotypical identifications as biofilm-producing Staphylococcus species were carried out. Enro-C/DMSO/chitosan and enro-C alone were assessed to determine their in vitro efficacy in interfering with biofilm formation and their bactericidal effects. A prolonged eight-day treatment with a twice-daily intramammary insertion of 10 mL of enro-C/DMSO/chitosan or enro-C alone was set to evaluate the clinical and bacteriological cures on day 10 in 15 cows per group and the biofilm-inhibiting ability. Results: Fifty-seven percent of the isolates were identified as Staphylococcus spp., of which 50% were bp-Sa, 46% bp-Scn, and 4% Staphylococcus pseudintermedius. One hundred percent of the S. aureus isolated and 77% of Staphylococcus coagulase-negative were biofilm producers. In both groups, the icaA and icaD biofilm-producing genes were identified. The experimental preparation could inhibit biofilm formation, degrade mature biofilms, and have well-defined microbicidal effects on planktonic and biofilm bacteria. The respective clinical and bacteriological cure rates were 100% and 80% for enro-C/DMSO/chitosan and 41.7% and 25% for enro-C alone. Conclusions: Enro-C/DMSO/chitosan eliminates bp-Sa and bp-Scn from cases of chronic bovine mastitis.

통영연근해역의 해양세균학적 수질 및 동태에 관한 연구 (Marine Bacteriological Quality and Dynamics in Tongyeong Coastal Area, Gyung-nam, Korea)

  • 통영연근해역 해수의 물리 화학적 및 미생물학적 특성과 자란만에서 양식되고 있는 굴에 대한 세균학적 품질을 조사하여 수출용 패류생산지정 해역수질에 합당한가를 파악함과 동시에 위생지표세균의 조성, 병원성 세균 등을 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 조사기간중 통영연근해역 해수의 수온은 6.9$^{\circ}C$~23.6$^{\circ}C$, 투명도는 2.6~6.2 m, COD 1.35~l.82 mg/ι, DO 5.0~9.9 mg/ι, 용존질소 1.60~8.17 $\mu\textrm{g}$-at/ι, 인산염 0.14~1.21 f$\mu\textrm{g}$-at/ι, Chlorophyll-a는 2.03-69.9 mg/㎥ 범위였으며 염분농도는 27.76~33.56 였다. 통영연근해역 해수의 세균학적 수질은 수출용 패류의 생산해역의 수질기준에 합당하였다 대장균군 최확수의 범위와 중앙치는 해수 100m1당 각각 <3.0~1,600, <3.0이였으며 230을 초과하는 시료의 비율은 7.2%였고, 분변계대장균의 경우는 <3.0~540, <3.0이였으며 43을 초과하는 시료의 비율은 3.8%로 한계치 10%이내에 있었다. 해수중의 생균수는 해수 ml당 상층에서 5.0$\times$$10^2$~6.3$\times$$10^4$/ml, 평균 3.6이었고, 하층에서 6.3$\times$$10^2$~6.3$\times$$10^4$/ml)범위에 평균 4.0으로 하층이 다소 많았다. 월별로는 6월부터 8월이 많았고 2월이 적었다. 분리된 대장균군의 분류결과 Excherichia coli type I이 약 38.02%나 되어 오염원의 주류가 분변오염임을 알 수 있었다. 그외에 살모넬라, 시겔라, 콜레라균 등 수인성 병원세균은 검출되지 않았다. 그리고 병원성 비브리오균은 여름철인 7~9월 사이에는 시료의 9-2l%에서 양성으로 나타났다. 굴에 대한 세균조사 결과 굴 Ig당 생균수는 1.4$\times$$10^2$~7.5$\times$$10^3$범위였고 대장균군의 최확수는 굴 100 g당 <18~16,000, 중앙치는 47, 분변계 대장균은 <18~l,400, 중앙치는 <18로 각각 조사되었다.

Dietary Regulations of the Intestinal Barrier Function at Weaning

  • Weaning is a complex phase when the mammal suffers the action of different stressors that contribute to negatively affect the efficiency of the intestinal mucosa and of the whole local integrated system, that acts as barrier against any nocuous agent. The components of this barrier are mechanical, chemical, and bacteriological; immunological and not. The development of contact with a saprophyte microflora and the maintenance of feed intake after the interruption of motherly nutrition are essential for the maturation of an equilibrated local immune function and for a functional integrity of villi. Opportunities and limits of some dietary strategies that can contribute to reduce negative effects of weaning on health and performance are discussed. Knowledges on the possible mechanism of action of probiotics are upgraded, particularly for their supposed role in the balance between different immune functions (effectory/regulatory). Some tools to control pathogen microflora are reviewed (acids, herbs, immunoglobulin sources) and practical feeding systems are proposed.

부인과감염증(婦人科感染症)에 대(對)한 Cefoperazone(Cefobid)의 임상효과(臨床效果) (Clinical Effectiveness of Cefoperazone(Cefobid) in Obstetrics-Gynecological Infection)

  • A total of 30 cases of gynecological infection were treated with Cefoperazone at the Department of Ob-Gy, Seoul Baik Hospital, Seoul, Korea from Sept. 1979 to Aug. 1980. Cefoperazone sodium was administered in a dose of 2g/day intramusculary or intravenously for 6 to 13 days. The effective rates of Cefoperazone based on clinical and bacteriological response were 100% in 9 cases of acute non-gonorrheal PID, 5 cases of postpartum endometritis, 2 cases of recurrent non-gonorrheal PID and 80% in acute gonorrheal PID(8 out of 10 cases). A case of recurrent gonorrheal PID and 2 out of 3 cases of postoperative infection responded also satisfactorily to Cefoperazone treatment. There were no drug-related abnormal findings in urinalysis, hematology and blood chemistry. Any particular side effects, except for one case of fever and rash which disappeared spontaneously without any treatment or discontinuation of the drug, were not noted during or after the treatment.

Pseudomonas avenae에 의한 벼$\cdot$세균성 줄무늬병 (Pseudomonas avenae Causing Bacterial Brown Stripe Disease of Rice in Korea)

  • 한국에서 처음으로 벼못자리와 폿트에 자란 모에서 세균성갈색줄무늬병을 기록하였다. 포장에서 자란 이병식물로부터 분리한 균주를 주사 또는 침접종한 결과, 자연상태의 병징과 비슷하였다. 공시한 10과 11종의 화본과식물 중에서 Echinochloa crusgalli, Digitaria sanguinalis, Setaria viridis는 본 병원세균의 새로운 기주로 밝혀졌다. 생화학적 특성 및 병원성등을 토대로 본 세균을 Psudomonas avenae Manns로 동정하였다.

  • 유행성 출혈형 폐염양 질환의 환자 및 논물에서 분리한 병원체의 세균학적 특성을 조사한바, 형태적 및 물리생화학적 특성이 L.inteerogans와 동일하였으며 또한 형태학적 검사에서도 분류균과 L. interrogans는 항원적으로 같은 반응을 보였다.

  • Five years old Asian male elephant (Elephas maximus), transported from Malaysia, had showed slight inappetence and mild diarrhea from begining of stay at the zoo, and died after three months clinical therapy. Necropsy of this elephant grossly demonstrated ileocecal intussusception as the cause of the death, coupled with purulent nephritis together and nephrolithiasis, mild liver degeneration, numerous subepiacrdial and subendocardial hemorrhages. Bacteriological culture was conducted from renal pelvis revealing Klebsiella pneumonia infection. Histological findings included diffuse chronic interstitial nephritis with numerous amount of lymphocytes and giant cells. This is a unique combination of pathological findings consisting of intestinal intussusception and purulent pyelonephritis in elephant. This is the first description of intestinal intussusception together with severe nephritis in elephant

Erwinia herbicola 의한 Kalanchoe blossfeldiana세균성무름병 (Bacterial Soft rot of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana by Erwinia herbicola in Korea)

  • 1998년 대전의 비닐하우스에서 재배중인 칼란코에의 잎에 세균병이발생하였다. 이들 병반은 수침상 병반이 나타나고 병반진전과 함께 무름증상을 보였다. 이들로부터 분리한 병원세균을 침접종한 결과 자연병징과 같은 병반을 형성하였다. 병원세균의 세균학적 특성을 조사한 결과 E. herhicola로 동정되었다. 국내에서는 아직 칼란코에 (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana)의 병원세균으로 E. herbicola가 보고되지 않았다. 따라서 이를 E. herbicola에 의한 \"칼란코에의 세균성 무름병\"으로 명명할 것을 제안한다.할 것을 제안한다.
