  • 최근 저전력 소모와 얇은 두께, 무 수은, 다양한 색 표현력, 빠른 응답 속도 등의 다양한 장점을 가진 LED(Light Emitting Diode)를 광원으로 이용하는 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) TV가 큰 주목을 받고 있다. 이러한 LCD TV의 화면을 균등한 휘도로 표현하기 위해 기존의 구동회로는 다 채널의 LED를 정전류로 제어하는 DC/DC 컨버터가 채널마다 각각 적용되었고, 이는 원가 상승 및 효율 저하의 원인이 되었다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 각 LED 채널에 적용되는 DC/DC 컨버터 없이 트랜스포머, 커패시터, 다이오드를 이용하여 모든 LED 채널의 정전류 제어가 가능한 저가격형 구동회로를 제안한다. 이는 전력변환 효율과 전력밀도를 획기적으로 개선할 수 있고 수동소자만을 사용하므로 높은 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 회로에 대한 이론적 해석과 실험을 통해 제안 회로의 타당성을 검증한다.

Spray Characteristics of Dimethyl Ether(DME) Fuel Compared to Various Diesel Fuels

  • It is recognized that alternative fuel such as dimethyl ether (DME) has better combustion polluting characteristics than diesel fuel, even though the cetane number of DME is almost the same as that of diesel. Characteristics of DME spray were observed experimentally under various ambient conditions using a constant volume chamber and a common-rail injection system. N-dodecane and LPG fuel sprays were also observed under same conditions of DME spray. Using spray images from backlight scattering and Mie scattering, characteristics of fuel sprays such as penetration and spray volume were visualized and quantitatively measured. The measurements showed that the penetration of early period decreased remarkably, because evaporation of alternative fuels became prosperous by the influence of flash boiling phenomenon under the condition of the low temperature and pressure compared with n-dodecane. The penetration of DME and LPG spray received the influence of temperature more largely in comparison with low density, because the specific surface area increased by atomizing in high density.

  • The LCD TV has many variable functions for consumer. Low temperature driving below minus 20 degree is also one of key functions. Since LCD is not self-luminance device, it is needed backlight system. Recently EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) widely substitutes for CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). It is more cheaper, higher efficiency, and easy to drive parallel connection compared to CCFL. In this paper, several conditions for low temperature driving of EEFL are investigated and a new boost-half bridge inverter for low temperature driving is proposed. Mode analysis is described and experimental results is represented to verify validity of the proposed inverter.

  • The LED light source has many excellent advantages for the application of LCD backlight module. As we know, the operational temperature can significantly influence the characteristics of LEDs. Heat can decrease LED's output light intensity and make its dominant wavelength (${\lambda}d$) drift. These two factors make display's color temperature change and induce different NTSC results. Here, we perform an important relation between NTSC and the above two factors of LED-LCD display.

  • LCD 디스플레이의 대형화에 따라 백라이트용 냉음극 방전램프(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Limp)는 길어지고 있으며, 하나의 램프를 이용한 백라이트는 휘도의 한계가 있어 램프를 병렬로 사용하여 필요한 휘도를 만들고 있다. 본 논문에서는 냉음극 방전램프 16개를 사용하는 37인치 LCD TV용 대형 백라이트 구동을 위한 인버터를 각각의 램프들이 입력조건에 대해 동일한 출력을 갖도록 설계하였다. 기존의 냉음극 방전램프의 구동방식인 하이-로우(H-L) 방식에서의 문제점을 보완하여 하이-하이(H-H) 방식을 채택하므로 써 램프간의 휘도편차를 개선하였고 향후에 상용화가 가능함을 보였다.

  • A light-guide is one of several important components of backlight unit in TFT-LCD. The manufacturing technology and optical system design of the light guide is very sensitive to quality and cost of the TFT-LCD module. In the present study a new manufacturing method which is called as direct surface forming(DSF) has been tested under various conditions. DSF is very similar to the well-known hot embossing except for partial contact between mold and substrate. The final V-groove pattern shows different shapes depend on the temperature of mold surface, contact time of mold and depth of V-groove.

  • We propose a method to achieve both wide viewing angle (WVA) and narrow viewing angle (NVA) characteristics with a single liquid crystal (LC) panel and a single backlight system by using 3-terminal electrode structure. We could control the viewing angle of a single LC cell by using the horizontal or vertical alignment of LC for the dark state at the front.

  • 대화면 LCD TV (40인치 이상 LCD TV)에서 LCD 인버터의 가격 경쟁력을 위해 인버터 하나로 다수의 램프를 병렬 구동하면서 Two Stage System 구조인 Super IP Board 형태의 인버터 회로가 많이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 Super IP Board의 인버터 구동 방식인 PWM 제어 방식을 분석하고, 문제점으로 제기되었던 Half-Bridge단 스위치의 하드 스위칭과 과도한 Circulating Energy 등의 문제를 해결한 새로운 Pulse Count Modulation (PCM) 방식을 적용한 인버터를 제안하고 이론적 및 실험적 검증을 통해 제안된 방식의 우수성을 확인하였다.

  • TFT-LCD used in display area is not a light-emissive device itself but TFT-LCD can overcome through the employ of the backlight unit (BLU). BLU is very important device in TFT-LCD system. However, the old-fashion BLU of CCFL type is crucible to the health due to the contained material, mercury (Hg). Moreover, strong temperature dependency of lamp employed with Hg becomes the other disadvantage in practical usage. To solve these problems, Hg-Free lamp with strong thermal resistance property is required to displace the Hg lamp. We studied optical and electrical properties of Xe-Ne-He mixed gas that is dependent on change of mixed ratio and pressure. In our results, the designed lamp without the phosphorescent material has the lowest firing voltage at xe 50%(Ne:He=9:1).

  • To enhance the competitive edge of the material cost, IP(Integrated Power) Board form of inverter circuit is widely used in large area LCD TV(Greater than or equal to 40 in.). This scheme is Two Stage System and one inverter drives multi-lamp in a parallel circuit. This paper analyzes the conventional IP Board inverter controlled with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), and its problems such as serious hard switching and excessive circulating energy can be solved by a proposed Pulse Count Modulation (PCM) scheme. To confirm the validity and superiority of the proposed system, theoretical analysis and experimental results are presented.
