  • Vietnam is one of a country with an important strategic position in economic development in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, Vietnam has a longtime agricultural more than 70% of agricultural labor. With favorable natural conditions, agricultural growth in Vietnam is'key'to the developing countries. However, Vietnam's agriculture has still encounter many problems due to drought, climatic conditions, natural disasters. The level of development and agricultural production is weak, the process of post-harvest storage is limited and particularly agricultural competitiveness with other countries is obstacles. In fact, the Government of Vietnam decided to cooperate with other countries have highly developed agriculture such as America, Korea, Japan... hoping to get help and promote agricultural development in a sustainable manner. Since 1992, Vietnam and Korea established formal diplomatic relations. During 20 years of cooperation and development, We have been obtained many satisfactory results not only in fields invest infrastructure, technological science but also exchange experience especially in the agricultural sector. • Objective : Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is radiologic finding, and is defined as kyphosis of >$10^{\circ}$ at the proximal end of a construct. The aim of this study is to identify factors associated with PJK after segmental spinal instrumented fusion in adults with spinal deformity with a minimum follow-up of 2 years. Methods : A total of 49 cases of adult spinal deformity treated by segmental spinal instrumented fusion at two university hospitals from 2004 to 2011 were enrolled in this study. All enrolled cases included at least 4 or more levels from L5 or the sacral level. The patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of PJK during follow-up, and these two groups were compared to identify factors related to PJK. Results : PJK was observed in 16 of the 49 cases. Age, sex and mean follow-up duration were not statistically different between two groups. However, mean bone marrow density (BMD) and mean back muscle volume at the T10 to L2 level was significantly lower in the PJK group. Preoperatively, the distance between the C7 plumb line and uppermost instrumented vertebra (UIV) were no different in the two groups, but at final follow-up a significant intergroup difference was observed. Interestingly, spinal instrumentation factors, such as, receipt of a revision operation, the use of a cross-link, and screw fracture were no different in the two groups at final follow-up. Conclusion : Preoperative BMD, sagittal imbalance at UIV, and thoracolumbar muscle volume were found to be strongly associated with the presence of PJK.

  • The distribution of fluoroquinolones was investigated in the carp (Cyprinus carpio) and eel (Anguilla japonica) after an oral dose of 20 mg/kg body weight/day for 35 days. Blood samples were collected at 5 and 10 hours and 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 13, 20, 30, and 35 days after treatment. The fluoroquinolone concentrations were determined high- performance liquid chromatography with an ultraviolet detector. The recovery rates of fluoroquinolones in the fish samples ranged from 91.4-96.6, 91.2-96.5, and 90.4-98.6% for concentrations of 0.1, 0.5, and $1.0\;{\mu}g/g$, respectively. In the blood of carp, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, norfloxacin, and sarafloxacin reached maximums level of 11.03, 9.37, 9.10, and $9.81\;{\mu}g/g$ 10 hours, 1 day, 10 hours, and 10 hours after treatment, respectively. In the eel blood, these reached maximum levels of 12.65, 11.18, 11.91, and $8.74\;{\mu}g/g$ all at 10 hours. Carp sample concentrations of ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, norfloxacin, and sarafloxacin were not measurable 20, 30, 20, and 20 days after treatment, respectively, in all experiments (

  • The sanitary quality of a shellfish-growing area in Gangjinman, Korea, was assessed through a bacteriological examination of seawater form January 2007 to December 2009. The range of the geometric mean (GM) and the estimated 90th percentile for most-probable-number (MPN) values for fecal coliforms in samples collected in the designated area were 2.0-2.4 and 6.1-11.5 MPN/100 mL, respectively. Therefore, the bacteriological quality of seawater in the designated area in the Gangjinman area met the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP, USA) guidelines for approved areas. Also, the sanitary status of shellfish harvested from the designated area met the Korean Shellfish Sanitation Program (KSSP) fecal coliform criterion (<230 MPN/100 g). However, the degree of bacteriological contamination increased rapidly, and water quality exceeded the criteria for approved areas when large amounts of rain fell before the sampling date. Fortunately, fecal pollutants did not affect the bacteriological quality of a buffer zone established between the shoreline and the designated area. These results indicate that the current buffer zone established around the designated area protects the designated area properly.

  • The saw dust of tropical hardwood, Nyatoh(Palaquium Spp.), was used as a raw material for the preparation of the high valued microcrystalline cellulose(MCC). Three pulping methods, soda pulping, Kraft pulping, and acid-sulfite pulping were applied to obtain cellulose from the saw dust. The residual impurities were removed with the additional bleaching processes: (A) $ClO_2{\rightarrow}H_2O_2$; (B) $ClO_2{\rightarrow}O_3$; (C) $O_3$. For the acid treatment for MCC preparation, the $H_2SO_4$, with three concentration, 20%, 40%, 60% were applied and the effects of $H_2SO_4$ concentration on the properties of MCC were evaluated. The results indicated that the MCC obtained by acid-sulfite pulping followed with $O_3$ treatment and 40% $H_2SO_4$ treatment showed less residual lignin, higher brightness and crystallinity than that of Avicel MCC.

  • Many consumers are increasingly concerned about the meat they eat, and accurate labelling is important due to public health, economic and legal concerns. Meat species adulteration is a common problem in the retail markets. In this study, a TaqMan$^{(R)}$ quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was applied for its ability to quantify chicken meat, which was not indicated on the label, in 79 commercial pork products (ham, sausages, bacon and ground meat) producted by 10 different manufacturers. The amplification efficiency was 82.05% and the square regression coefficient ($R^2$) was 0.995. PCR results showed that 38.6% of ham samples, 50.0% of sausages samples, and 50.0% of ground meat samples were contaminated with chicken residuals, while the bacon samples were not contaminated with chicken residuals. Only twelve pork products of one of the manufacturers were in accordance with indicated in their labels. The PCR assay reported in this work could be particularly useful in inspection programs to verify the food labelling of commercial processed meats and to gain consumers' trust.

  • We investigate black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis) wine made using traditional yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae A8, B6, GBY2, GBY3) and S. cerevisiae Fermivin (FM), which is widely used in wine manufacturing, and analyze the biogenic amine content and the volatile flavor compounds. Black raspberries were separately inoculated with yeast up to $1{\times}10^9CFU/kg$, followed by incubation at $25^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. FM produced the highest alcohol content, however the final fermentation characteristics of the wine made using four different yeasts were similar. S. cerevisiae A8 had a large biogenic amine (BA) content, specifically tryptamine, thus we excluded this yeast from fermentation. S. cerevisiae GBY3 was selected for black raspberry wine fermentation as a result of sensory evaluation. The volatile flavor compounds of two wines (S. cerevisiae GBY3 and FM) were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. 37 compounds in the samples were separated, and several ester compounds were identified in greater amounts in the wine made with S. cerevisiae GBY3 than in the wine made with FM. A greater amount of the major compound, ethyl benzoate, giving the sweet and fruity flavor, was identified in wine made with S. cerevisiae GBY3 than in the wine made with FM. In conclusion, S. cerevisiae GBY3 was confirmed to produce no major BAs and a better flavored wine. These results give new leads in the production of high quality wine.

  • Nypa fruticans Wurmb is a species of palm, which is widely distributed in the mangrove forest of Southeast Asia. Various parts of N. fruticans has been used as a traditional medicinal plant. However, the physiological activities of N. fruticans has not yet been clarified well. Therefore, in this study, the 50% ethanol extract and its aqueous and ethyl acetate fractions of young shoots of N. fruticans were investigated for their antioxidant, cytoprotective effect, and antimicrobial activities. Every sample possessed very high free radical and various ROS scavenging capacities assessed by employing different in vitro assays such as $DPPH^{\cdot}$, $O_2^{{\cdot}-}$, ${\cdot}OH$, and $^1O_2$ scavenging activities. Based on these results, the cytoprotective effect was investigated using the oxidative hemolysis of erythrocyte. We found that the extract and fractions provide a greater protective effect compared with (+)-${\alpha}$-tocopherol. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities were confirmed against skin pathogens by broth microdilution assay. The ethyl acetate fraction had much higher antimicrobial activities than methyl paraben against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. Taken together, our results indicated that the young shoots of N. fruticans may have the potential role as a natural active ingredient through their antioxidant, cytoprotective effect, and antimicrobial activities.
