  • In this study, we explore the anisotropy of electron-phonon coupling (EPC) constant in epitaxially grown MgB2 films on c-axis oriented Al2O3, examining its correlation with the critical temperature (Tc) and local structural disorder assessed through polarized Raman scattering. Analysis of the polarized Raman spectra reveals angle-dependent variations in the intensity of the phonon spectra. The Raman active mode originating from the boron plane, along with two additional phonon modes from the phonon density of states (PDOS) induced by lattice distortion, was distinctly observed. Persistent impurity scattering, likely attributed to oxygen diffusion, was noted at consistent frequencies across all measurement angles. The EPC values derived from the primary Raman active phonon do not significantly vary with changing observation angles, followed by that the Tc values calculated using the Allen and Dynes formula remain relatively constant across all polarization angles. Although the E2g phonon mode plays a crucial role in the EPC mechanism, the determination of Tc values in MgB2 involves not only electron-E2g coupling but also contributions from other phonon modes.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method to analyze kind of clouds using a fuzzy reasoning method. In the proposed method, we used the clues that G channel value is dominant from RGB color values in land areas and B channel value is dominant in the sea areas discovered by the analyses of both visible images and infrared images. By these information, R and B channel values are applied to land areas and R and G channel values are applied to the sea areas. Noise areas(areas except cloud areas) are removed from a visible image and an infrared image by a threshold value, and then land areas and the sea areas are discriminated from the noise removed image. Cloud areas are extracted from discriminated areas using R, G, B channel values and a fuzzy reasoning method, and finally kind of clouds is decided by combining same cloud areas included in both the visible image and the infrared image. In comparison with a conventional quantization method, we verified that the performance of cloud analysis by the proposed method is more efficient through experiments.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal firing condition and composition for $Al_2TiO_5$ crystal, which is suitable for stable coloration in glazes at high temperatures, using $Cr_2O_3$ as chromophore for the synthesis of $Al_2TiO_5$ system pigments. $Al_2TiO_5$ has a high refractive index and good solubility of chromophore in the $Al_2TiO_5$ lattice, making this structure a good candidate for the development of new ceramic pigments. Pigments were synthesized by using $Al_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ mainly. Various amounts of $Cr_2O_3$ such as 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05 mole were also added. Each compound was synthesized at $1300^{\circ}C$, $1400^{\circ}C$, and $1500^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and cooled naturally. The crystal structure, solubility limit, and color of the synthesized pigments were analyzed by XRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, UV and UV-vis. The changes in color as the result of applying 6 wt% of the synthesized pigments to lime barium glaze were expressed as CIE-L*a*b* values. A $Cr_2O_3$ 0.03 mole doped $Al_2TiO_5$ brown pigment was successfully synthesize at $1400^{\circ}C$, and the values of CIE-L*a*b* parameters were L* = 44.62, a* = 3.10, and b* = 17.25. In the case of the pigment synthesized at $1500^{\circ}C$, the brown color was obtained at 0.01 mole and 0.02 mole $Cr_2O_3$, and the CIE-L*a*b* values were 55.34, 1.73, 28.64, and 49.39, 0.51, 21.33, respectively. At $1500^{\circ}C$, the maximum limit of solid solution was 0.03 mole $Cr_2O_3$. The glazed sample showed green color, and the values of the CIEL* a*b* parameters were L* = 45.69, a* = -0.98, and b* = 20.38.

  • This paper proposes the method that design CLUT(color look-up table) simultaneously processing gamut mapping and color space conversion using only CLUT without complex computation. After CLUT is constructed using scanner gamut and printer gamut, the scanner gamut is extended to include original scanner gamut. This extended scanner gamut is used as input CIE $L^{*}$ $a^{*}$ $b^{*}$ values for CLUT. Then CMY values are computed by using gamut mapping. Input RGB image of scanner is converted into CIE $L^{*}$ $a^{*}$ $b^{*}$ by using regression function. CIE $L^{*}$ $a^{*}$ $b^{*}$ values of scanner are converted into CMY values without computation of additional gamut mapping using the proposed CLUT. In the experiments, the proposed method resulted in the similar color difference, but reduced the complexity computation than the direct computing method to process gamut mapping and color space conversion respectively.espectively.ively.

  • Vitamin B-6 nutrition has been shown to be inadequate in many population groups including pregnant and lactating women, and in infants. Vitamin B-6 intake was measured in 98 pregnant mothers and a total of 172 cord blood samples of their and other new born infants were analyzed for erythrocyte alanine aminotransferase(EALAT) activities with or without the addition of pyridoxal-5-phosphate to assess vitamin B-6 status of the infants. The average daily vitamin B-6 intake of the pregnant mothers was 1.79mg$\pm$0.88(81.4% of the Recommended Dietary Allowances ; RDA) and vitamin B-6 to protein intake ration was 0.017mg vitamin B-6/g protein. Thirty-eight percent of the pregnant women consumed diets which provided less than the RDA for vitamin B-6 during pregnancy. Seventy-two percent of the dietary pyridoxine intake was provided by the plant food source whose bioavailability was reported to be lower when compared to that of the animal food. The average activity coefficient(AC) values of the cord blood EALAT was 1.41$\pm$0.11, and 32% of the blood samples had EALATAC values greater than 1.25, suggesting that vitamin B-6 status of the newborns might be less than adequate.

  • Pyropia yezoensis is one of the most extensively cultivated seaweeds used as food in Korea. However, the quality and yield of Pyropia farms are frequently affected by outbreaks of thallus discoloration. The objective of this study was to develop a simple and rapid method to evaluate P. yezoensis discoloration caused by nutrient deficiencies. A colorimeter was used to quantify the color of P. yezoensis in nutrient deficient media over 10 days. Quantitative values of lightness (L), redness (a), and yellowness (b) measured with a colorimeter were used as indicators of P. yezoensis discoloration. The vacuoles of P. yezoensis were observed at 4 days and swelled gradually from 6 days onward. The three colorimeter parameters L, a, and b values showed significantly different values with culture period. The lightness (L) value was darker initially, and continued to lighten over culture period. The yellowness (b) value increased, but the redness (a) value decreased throughout this study. The a/b ratio and redness (a) values from the colorimeter were important P. yezoensis color change indicators. The discoloration group of P. yezoensis had quantitative values for parameters of L above 70, a below 2.6, and b above 15.0. The results of this study showed that quantitative colorimetric measurements can be used as tools for simple and rapid detection of P. yezoensis discoloration.

  • The Beer-Lambert law states that absorbance is proportional to the concentration of a solute in a solution at a given wavelength. This linearity works for an ideal or a 'sufficiently diluted' solution, so this linearity is often used as a criterion for the fidelity of the absorbance value measured. In this study, we used a chlorophyll (Chl) solution, isolated from rice leaves with 80% acetone to test the use of the Chl a/b ratio as an additional criterion for checking the fidelity of measured values using four different absorption spectrophotometers: Cary4E, UV-1650PC, Versamax (a microplate reader), and NanoDrop 1,000(which can handle a $4{\mu}l$ aliquot). We used Chl solutions of varying concentrations from $0.2{\mu}g/ml$ to $200{\mu}g/ml$ to measure absorbance values at 645 nm and 663 nm and checked the linearity first. The results indicated that the range of Chl concentrations that we can rely on based on the linearity was similar to the range in which the calculated Chl concentrations based on the measured absorbance values agreed with the known concentrations. However, some border cases or cases with very low Chl concentrations inside the fidelity range of Chl concentrations did not agree with the criterion that the Chl a/b ratio should not change after dilution of the Chl in the solution. These results suggest that the Chl a/b ratio is a better criterion for the reliability of the absorbance values measured for the determination of chlorophyll concentration than the criterion based on the linearity suggested by the Beer-Lambert law.

  • Silk/Cotton fabrics were treated with butanetetracarboxylic acid(BTCA) to improve crease recovery and anti-shrinking properties at various curing temperatures and pH values. We investigated the effects of finishing conditions on add-on of BTCA, bending property(E, 2HB), wrinkle recovery angle, shrinkage, and dyeing properties. The Add-on of BTCA increased with increasing curing temperature and concentration. Crease recovery was improved with decreasing shrinkage. Maximum add-on of BTCA was showed at pH 2.5. In case of dyeing and mercerization, silk side treated with BTCA was more flexible than untreated, whereas cotton side was more stiff. In dyeing after mercerization, B and 2HB values were higher and K/S values were doubled nearly. The hand of fabric improved with decreasing B and 2HB by the BTCA treatment. BTCA treatment after reactive dyeing improved crease recovery, and caused no change of color difference. However, BTCA treatment after reactive dyeing didn't improve crease recovery, whereas B and 2HB were decreased considerably by the treatment.

  • PURPOSE. This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effect of implants' two different diameters and cantilever lengths on the marginal bone loss and stability of mplants supporting maxillary prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ninety-six implants were placed in sixteen completely edentulous maxillary ridges. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group A, implants were placed with a cantilever to anterior-posterior AP spread length (CL:AP) at a ratio of 1:3; Group B, implants were placed with a CL:AP at a ratio of 1:2. Patients were further divided into four sub-groups: Groups A1, A2, B1, and B2. Groups A1 and B1 received small diameter implants while Groups A2 and B2 received standard diameter implants. Bone height and stability measurements around each implant were performed at 0, 4, 8 and 24 months after definitive prostheses delivery. RESULTS. Statistical analysis of the mean implant stability and height values revealed an insignificant difference between Group A1 and Group A2 at all the different time intervals while significantly higher values in Group B1 in comparison with Group B2. Results also showed significantly higher values in Group A1 in comparison with Group B1 and an insignificant difference between Group A2 and Group B2 at all the different time intervals. CONCLUSION. It can be concluded that the use of small diameter implants placed with a CL:AP at a ratio of 1:3 provided predictable results and that the 1:2 CL:AP significantly induced more critical bone loss in the small diameter implants group, which can significantly reduce long term success and survival of implants

  • B13 analogues are being considered as therapeutic agents for cancer cells, since B13 is a ceramide analogue and inhibits ceramidase to promote apoptosis in cancer cells. B13 sulfonamides are assumed to have biological activity similar to B13, since they are made by bioisosterically substituting the carboxyl moiety of B13 with sulfone group. Twenty B13 sulfonamides were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicities against human colon cancer HT-29 and lung cancer A549 cell lines using MTT assays. Replacement of the amide group with a sulfonamide group increased cytotoxicity in both cancer cell lines. The sulfonamides with long alkyl chains exhibited activities two to three times more potent than that of B13 and compound (15) had the most potent activity with $IC_{50}$ values of 27 and $28.7{\mu}M$ for HT-29 and A549, respectively. The comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) were used to carry out QSAR molecular modeling of these compounds. The predictive CoMSIA models for HT-29 and A549 gave cross-validated q2 values of 0.703 and 0.830, respectively. From graphical analysis of these models, we suppose that the stereochemistry of 1,3-propandiol is not important for activity and that introduction of a sulfonamide group and long alkyl chains into B13 can increase cytotoxicity.
