  • This work focuses on current sharing between punch-through insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) connected in parallel and evaluates the mechanisms that allow overall current balancing. Two different control strategies are presented. These strategies are based on the modification of transistor gate-emitter control voltage VGE by using an active gate driver circuit. The first strategy relies on the calculation of the average value of the current flowing through all parallel-connected IGBTs. The second strategy is proposed by the authors on the basis of a current cross reference control scheme. Finally, the simulation and experimental results of the application of the two current sharing control algorithms are presented.

  • If the withdrawal force of strand driven roll which is controlled with predetermined speed isn't distributed regularly in continuous casting process, mold level is changed cyclically and slab quality is not good. In this paper, both casting speed control and load sharing control algorithm of strand driven roll according to ratio which is set up by operator at same time is proposed. The proposed algorithm is to share the withdrawal force by following torque current of each driven roll as average torque current by changing speed reference of each driven roll motor. The load sharing control with anti-wind up for improvement transient state is adopted and the proposed algorithm is implemented in POSCO pilot caster.

  • Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) connected DC-DC converters enable low voltage rating switches to be used in high voltage input applications. In this paper, a DSP is adopted to generate digital phase-shifted PWM signals and to fulfill the closed-loop control function for ISOP connected two full-bridge DC-DC converters. Moreover, a stable output current sharing control strategy is proposed for the system, with which equal sharing of the input voltage and the load current can be achieved without any input voltage control loops. Based on small signal analysis with the state space average method, a loop gain design with the proposed scheme is made. Compared with the conventional IVS scheme, the proposed strategy leads to simplification of the output voltage regulator design and better static and dynamic responses. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by the simulation and experimental results of an ISOP system made up of two full-bridge DC-DC converters.

  • There is a growing awareness about the role of the board of directors in decision making, which is crucial to vitalize board activities in Korean firms. Given the academic and social needs, the current study is designed to identify the relationship between board independence and the board involvement of directors, highlighting the important aspects of information provision from diverse channels and information sharing among external directors. In this study, I include not only traditional variables to address the structural independence of the board but also the information provision and information sharing variables to explain how external directors, on average, are involved in board decisions. The research results from 136 Korean business samples show positive relationships between board independence and board involvement, but the influence of information provision and sharing proves to be significant in increasing the level of the board involvement of external directors. These findings suggest that active communication and information sharing among external directors, as well as an independent structural design for the board of directors, are important factors to improve the level of board involvement. Based on these results, the current paper provides theoretical and practical implications for corporate governance and knowledge management. Future research directions and limitations are also discussed.

  • PURPOSES : The aim of this study is to analyze economic effect of bike-sharing after its introduction in Korea. METHODS : This study reviews current bike-sharing situations in Korea and other nations. We conduct surveys on bike-sharing system's bike usage patterns and economic benefits in Changwon and Goyang cities where public bikes are the most popular in the nation. Economic benefits are itemized after reviewing relevant previous studies. Then, the survey is implemented using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). Then estimated benefit is compared to the cost which is necessary for bike-sharing introduction and operation. RESULTS : Using the average WTP per household, the total economic benefit of bike-sharing is estimated as much as 1.75 billion KRW to 3.75 billion KRW in Goyang and Changwon city. Using estimated benefit, economic effect of bike-sharing are calculated as 0.69 and 1.00, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : The result of this study shows bike-sharing could be useful economic policy in Korea. However, economic effect of bike-sharing differs by city.

  • Recently, parallel operation of dc-dc converters has been widely used in distributed power systems. In this paper, a control method to achieve parallel operation of three-phase bi-directional isolated interleaved dc-dc converters is discussed for the battery charging and discharging system which consists of the 32 battery charger/dischargers and two three-phase bi-directional isolated interleaved dc-dc converters. In the boost mode, the battery energy is delivered to the grid, whereas the grid energy is transferred to the battery in the buck mode operation. The average current sharing control method is employed to obtain an equal conducting of each phase current in the three-phase dc-dc converter. By using the proposed method, the imbalance factor is gratefully reduced from 8 percent to 1 percent. Two 2.5kW three-phase bi-directional dc-dc converter prototype have been built and the proposed method has been verified through experiments.

  • This paper designed a voltage feedback driving circuit to compensate for the characteristic deviation of the Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode driving Thin Film Transistor. This paper describes a stable and fast circuit by applying charge sharing and polar stabilization methods. A 12-inch Organic Light Emitting Diode with a Double Wide Ultra eXtended Graphics Array resolution creates a screen distortion problem for line parasitism, and charge sharing and polar stabilization structures were applied to solve the problem. By applying Charge Sharing, all data lines are shorted at the same time and quickly positioned as the average voltage to advance the compensated change time of the gate voltage in the next operation period. A buffer circuit and a current pass circuit were added to lower the Amplifier resistance connected to the line as a polar stabilization method. The advantage of suppressing the Ringing of the driving Thin Film Transistor can be obtained by increasing the stability. As a result, a circuit was designed to supply a stable current to the Organic Light Emitting Diode even if the characteristic deviation of the driving Thin Film Transistor occurs.

  • This paper presents CAN-based parallel-operation and load-sharing techniques for the communication server power supply. With the load information obtained through CAN communication, each modules performs its current control independently and the power unbalance caused by impedance differences of converter modules can be reduced. In conventional method, slave modules are controlled by master module. On the other hand, the proposed load share algorithm uses the Multi-Master method. Therefore, accurate load sharing can be accomplished by the reference structure of each module's average current. Each converter has two stages and it is separated into PFC, which is responsible for harmonic regulation, and LLC resonant converter, which controls output voltage. To verified the performance of the proposed method, two 2KW prototypes has been implemented and experimented.

  • Operation of the interleaved Boost PFC converter in Critical Conduction Mode (CrM) shows the advantages of high efficiency and good EMI characteristics owing to the valley switching of FET. However, when it is designed for a highly pulsating load, operation at a relatively high frequency is inevitable at non-pulsating typical load condition, resulting in efficiency degradation. Moreover, the physical size of the inductor becomes problematic because of the nature of the CrM operation, where the inductor peak current is about two times the inductor average current, thereby requiring high DC-bias characteristics, which is worse when the output power is high. In this study, a new parallel driving method of two sets of interleaved boost PFC converters for highly pulsating high-power application is proposed. The proposed method does not require any additional load-sharing controller, resulting in high efficiency and smaller inductor size.

  • A current sharing controller is proposed in this paper for parallel-connected converters. The proposed controller is based on the calculation of the magnitudes of system current space vectors. Good current distribution between parallel converters is achieved with only one Proportional-Integral (PI) compensator. The proposed controller is analyzed and the circulating current impedance is derived for paralleled systems. The performance of the new control strategy is experimentally verified using two parallel connected converters employing Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) feeding a passive RL load and a 2.2 kW three-phase induction motor load. The obtained test results show a reduction in the current imbalance ratio between the converters in the experimental setup from 53.9% to only 0.2% with the induction motor load.
