  • Domestic automotive industry is also facing the moment it should be with a competitively priced and highly qualified automotive ta compete with worldwide automotive makers of world market through global marketing and global sourcing. At this point, weve been studying xNX model of USA, Japan and Europe with OEMs, suppliers and KAMA(Korea Automotive Manufacturers Association) to give a network infrastructure of guaranteed service quality network performance, reliability, security and trouble handling. We hope all efforts above mentioned will make the whole industry more competitive and powerful.

  • An educational network system based on CAN protocol internal to a passenger ground vehicle has been developed. The developed network system has been applied to a commercial plug-in electrical vehicle and verified the educational applicability. To apply this in-vehicle network technology based on CAN, a suitable electric vehicle has been chosen and a CAN network structure has been designed, developed and manufactured. Since the commercial electric vehicle chosen as a test bed has its own proprietary electric network, we explain how the original electric network has been utilized and how the new network system has been designed. The developed network system on a real vehicle has been tested to show the applicability and the performance. Finally, the system has been applied at few classrooms to demonstrate how the in-vehicle network system works and to teach how to analyse the CAN signals. The developed system proven to be effective for educational purpose.

  • This paper presents a network-based traction control system(TCS), where several electric control units(ECUs) are connected by a controller area network(CAN) communication system. The control system consists of four ECUs: the electric throttle controller, the transmission controller, the engine controller and the traction controller. In order to validate the traction control algorithm of the network-based TCS and evaluate its performance, a Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) environment was developed. Herein we propose a new concept of the HILS environment called the network-based HILS(Net-HILS) for the development and validation of network-based control systems which include smart sensors or actuators. In this study, we report that we have designed a network-based TCS, validated its algorithm and evaluated its performance using Net-HILS.

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model and a simulation method for the response time analysis of Local Interconnect Network(LIN) based network systems are proposed. Network-induced delays in a network based control system can vary widely according to the transmission time of message and the overhead time of transmission. Therefore, in order to design a distributed control system using LIN network, a method to predict and verify the timing behavior of LIN protocol is required at the network design phase. Furthermore, a simulation environment based on a timing model of LIN protocol is beneficial to predict the timing behavior of LIN. The model equation is formulated with six timing parameters deduced from timing properties of LIN specification. Additionally, LIN conformance test equations to verify LIN device driver are derived with timing constraints of the parameters. The proposed model equation and simulation method are validated with a result that is measured at real LIN based network system.

  • This paper focuses on development of simulation model for SAE J1850 and performance evaluation of a J1850 network. The simulation model has been developed by using discrete event simulation language. SAE J1850 is one of Class B network protocol for general data sharing applications. Through numerous simulation experiments, several important performance factors such as the probability of a successful transmission, average queue delay, and throughput have been evaluated.

  • A bushing component of a vehicle suspension system is tested to capture the nonlinear behavior of rubber bushing element using the MTS 3-axes rubber test machine. The results of the tests are used to model the artificial neural network bushing model. The performances from the neural network model usually are dependent on the structure of the neural network. In this paper, maximum error, peak error, root mean square error, and error-to-signal ratio are employed to evaluate the performances of the neural network bushing model. A simple simulation is carried out to show the usefulness of the developed procedure.

  • The detection of engine misfire events is one of major concerns in engine control due to its negative effect on air pollution and engine performance. In this paper, a misfire detection system based on crankshaft angular speed fluctuation is developed. Synthetic variable method is adopted for the preprocessing of crankshaft angular speed. This method successfully estimates the work output of each cylinder by finding the effect of combustion energy on the crankshaft rotational speed or acceleration after virtually removing the effect of the internal inertia forces from the measured crankshaft speed signals. The detection system is developed using neural network with the revised synthetic angular acceleration as input which is derived from the preprocessing. Mathematical simulation is carried out for developing and verifying the misfire detection system. Finally, the reliability of the developed system is validated through an experiment.

  • This paper presents an overview of automotive communication technologies, including related technology developments. We describe the latency of Audio Video Bridge (AVB) network as well as purpose the optimized design of the Ethernet network system for automotive. Our design plays a significant role in reducing the delay between components. The proposed approach on realistic test cases showed that there was a delay reduction, approximately 49.4%. It is expected that the optimization method for the actual automotive environment can greatly shorten the time period in the design and development process. The results obtained from the experiments on the delay time present in each function are reliable because average values are obtained through repeated actual tests for several months. It will greatly benefit the industry since analyzing the latency between each function in a short period of time is very important.
