  • Performance test result on prototype car equipped with low-band type active suspension system is reported. Control theory is explained first. Simulation for feasibility and parameter tuning, control module test using hydraulic exciter and test run, and performance evaluation of the test car on test track are reported successively. Emphasis was put on modification of control theory which caused many unexpected problems in actual implementation.

  • Wind energy has been more and more important and contributive in the energy utilization of the world. This paper proposed a novel method for Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), in which a secondary control hydrostatic transmission (SC-HST) with two hydraulic accumulators, were employed for wind energy conversion system. This approach can absorb the excessive power of turbine, keep the generator from over-speed and maintain the speed of generator in low speed of turbine. A PID controller was designed for speed control to track a predefined speed. The simulation results indicated that the speed of the generator was ensured with the relative error less than 2%; and the efficiency of the proposed system was 70.4%.

  • Solenoid operated electromagnetic control valve (ECV) using in an external variable displacement swash plate type compressor is widely used for air conditioning control system because of its low energy consumption and high efficient characteristics. ECV controls the entire vehicle air conditioning system by means of a pulse width modulation (PWM) system that supplied from an external controller. Different pressure ports located within ECV has important functions to control the air/refrigerant flow through its internal passages. The flow paths are preciously maintained with acceptable ranges of leakage (gap) between the parts inside it which is followed by effective design and critical dimensioning of its internal features. Therefore, it saves energy losses from the solenoid operation as well as ensures the balance of forces within it. The research paper highlights analysis of the leakages (at different pressure ports) and dimensioning tolerance factors that affects the ECV performance.

  • This paper presents a method to assign robustly the closed loop system's poles in a specified disk by a state feedback for a linear time invariant system with structured or unstructured uncertainties. THe proposed robust design procedure includes two steps. Firstly, the perturbed closed loop matrix $A_{cl p}$ = $A_{cl}$ + Δ$A_{cl}$ is rearranged such that it is a function of the nominal closed loop matrix $A_{cl}$. Hence, we can control the positions of the perturbed closed loop poles by choosing $A_{cl}$ appropriately. Secondly, the feedback control law F that assigns the closed loop poles of the perturbed system in a specified disk is determined from the equation $A_{cl}$ = A + BF. A procedure for finding F is proposed based on partitioning every matrix of the equation $A_{cl}$ = A + BF in the horizontal direction.

  • Vehicle stability is a very important subject in vehicle design and control, because vehicle safety is closely dependent upon its dynamic stability. The control logic for four-wheel steering(4WS) systems, in which maintaining at least the specified stability region is the control objective, was constructed using the simplified vehicle model of 3 degree-of-freedoms. The improvement of vehicle stability was verified through computer simulations for the slalom and the double lane change maneuver using the multi-body dynamic model in MSC.ADAMS.

  • The VDC(Vehicle Dynamics Control) is a control system whose target is to improve vehicle stability under critical motion. The system has a good potential of becoming a standard active safety unit in passenger vehicles since it can be implemented on top of the ABS/TCS system with little extra cost. This, however, is possible only when the signals that the VDC system demands can be obtained with sufficient accuracy. In this research, estimators for the road friction coefficient and body sideslip angle have been designed. The two variables have great influence upon performance of the VDC system but not directly measurable. For the estimator design, the Newton method and the nonlinear observer theory have been exploited. The performance of the estimator have been verified via simulations on critical driving conditions.

  • Modern vehicles require a high degree of refinement, including good driveability to meet customer demands. Vehicle driveability, which becomes a key decisive factor for marketability, is affected by many parameters such as engine control and the dynamic characteristics in drive lines. Therefore, Engine and drive train characteristics should be considered to achieve a well balanced vehicle response simultaneously. This paper describes analysis procedures using a mathematical model which has been developed to simulate spark timing control logic. Inertia mass moment, stiffness and damping coefficient of engine and drive train were simulated to analyze the effect of parameters which were related vehicle dynamic behavior. Inertia mass moment of engine and stiffness of drive line were shown key factors for the shuffle characteristics. It was found that torque increase rate, torque reduction rate and torque recovery timing and rate influenced the shuffle characteristics at the tip-in condition for the given system in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to bring out the optimal design factors which effect on dynamic characteristics in the design of flow control servo valve with high response characteristics, and to verify the validity of the design factors. In this study, force feedback type flow control valve with nozzle/flapper and with no drain is studied. And, the effect of the parameters, such as fixed orifice, nozzle diameter, and maximum displacement between nozzle and flapper are analyzed. We have done simulations using the optimal design factors and simulink(Matlab) as a simulation tool, and verified the validity of our simulations by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of another similar valve.

  • To examine the residual stress field resulting from stamping process for the lower control arm of a car, the explicit finite element analysis is performed for the stamping process by way of the ABAQUS Explicit. The residual stress is obtained in terms of the Von Mises stress and other parameters such as equivalent plastic strain, the change of blank thickness, the final configuration of the blank and the spring back effect are also considered. Moreover, discussed is the convergence of the explicit FEM versus the punch sped and the element discretization

  • Adaptive cruise control Stop&Go system has been developed to reduce the driver's workload on highway or public road. This system is characterized by a moderate control of engine and brake actuator. A control system capable of modeling driver's driving characteristics has been constructed to provide natural vehicle behavior in full speed driving. But, ACC Stop&Go system has some limitations. One of the limitations is a detection limitation on near cut-in situation. This paper presents development of the near cut-in test procedure, finding of the limitation value on near cut-in scenario and performance comparisons on ACC Stop&Go system.
