DEVELOPMENT OF VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODEL FOR REAL-TIME ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT EVALUATION SYSTEM USING KINEMATIC AND COMPLIANCE TEST DATA

  • A functional suspension model is proposed as a kinematic describing function of the suspension, that represents the relative wheel displacement in polynomial form in terms of the vertical displacement of the wheel center and steering rack displacement. The relative velocity and acceleration of the wheel is represented in terms of first and second derivatives of the kinematic describing function. The system equations of motion for the full vehicle dynamic model are systematically derived by using velocity transformation method of multi-body dynamics. The comparison of test and simulation results demonstrates the validity of the proposed functional suspension modeling method. The model is computationally very efficient to achieve real-time simulation on TMS 320C6711 150 MHz DSP board of HILS (hardware-in-the-loop simulation) system for ECU (electronic control unit) evaluation of semi-active suspension.

  • The Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) allows drivers not only convenience and safety, but also many useful services provided by the Telematics technology. Since ASV is expected to be widely used in the near future, it is necessary to ensure the safety of ASV systems. Among several aspects of ASV, this paper investigates the safety of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system. Field tests are carried out under the domestic roadway and traffic conditions, according to International Standard Organization (ISO) requirements for ACC. The test data are analyzed whether the requirements are adequate for domestic circumstances, and the suggestions for findings are given.

  • The nonlinear characteristics of a suspension is directly related to the ride quality of a passenger car. In this study, the nonlinear characteristics of a spring and a damper of a passenger car is analyzed by dynamic experiments using the MTS single-axial testing machine. Also, a mathematical nonlinear dynamic model for the suspension is devised to estimate the ride quality using the K factor. And the effect on the variation of the parameters of the suspension is examined. The results showed that the dynamic viscosity of the oil in a damper was the parameter that most influeced the ride quality of a passenger car for the ride quality of a passenger car.

  • There are various ringshaped automotive and machine parts and the study about the characteristics of ring are the important basis of the quality control and performance improvement of outer race of ball bearing, railwheel, ring gear, piston ring, and other ringshaped seals, etc. In this study, the effect of prestress which arise inevitably during the fitting of the ring shape parts and the effect of central line extension/contraction on the vibrational characteristics of ring are verified. Although many studies are made on the vibration of ring, the study about prestress and extension were rather scarce and rare. As a result of the study, a series of frequency formulas are derived. The result of this study can be utilized in the improvement of design as well as in the quality control during the fitting work.

  • In this paper, to control the existing headlamp control system using steering wheel angle more efficiently and more actively, image processing algorithm which improved the detection rate of lane at night based on camera was suggested. And to recognize road lane more clearly in the conditions of low illumination, new algorithms were developed in the aspects of improving brightness, extracting clear lane edge and using the characteristics of lane. Through this research, it turned out that lane detection ability by using the normalized stretching, angular mask and expected-area scan have good performance in the night compare to existing algorithms.

  • In order to protect the environment from the refrigerant pollution, the $CO_2$ may be regarded as one of the most attractive alternative refrigerants for an automotive air-conditioning system. Control methods for a $CO_2$ system should be different because of $CO_2$'s unique properties as a refrigerant. Especially, the high-side pressure of a $CO_2$ system should be controlled for the effective operation of the system. In this study, the high-side pressure setpoint algorithm was developed by using a neural network and a Lagrange interpolation method. These methods were compared. Simulation results showed that a Lagrange interpolation method was more effective than a neural network in the respect of its easiness of programming and shorter execution time.

  • The growing number of electronic components used in automobiles has given rise to problems concerning the increasing number, size and weight of the wiring harnesses. As an approach to resolve these problems, multiplexed wiring systems using automotive communication protocol such as Controller Area Network(CAN), Advanced PALMNET and J1850 have been developed by many automobile companies. In order to compare these protocols quantitatively, this paper presents the performance evaluation of CAN and Advanced PALMNET via discrete event simulation. Through numerous simulation experiments, several important quantitative performance factors such as the probability of a transmission failure, average system delay(data latency), and throughput have been evaluated.

  • This paper presents a new approach to automotive embedded systems development and validation. Recently automotive embedded systems become even more complex and the product life cycle is getting reduced. To overcome these problems AUTOSAR, a standardized software platform and component based approach, was introduced. Model-based approach has been widely applied in the development of embedded systems and has strong benefits such as early validation and automated testing. In this paper cooperative development and validation of AUTOSAR and model-based approach are introduced and automated testing techniques are proposed. With the proposed techniques we can improve complexity management through increased reuse and exchangeability of software module and automated testing is realized.

  • SENT (single edge nibble transmission) is a serial communication protocol between automotive sensors and ECU (electronic control unit). SENT exploits digital waveform, so it has a simple and cheap architecture without transceiver circuits. Usually it is exploited as an embedded communication interface in the sensors. In this paper, a SENT interface was designed in Verilog HDL, fully complying with SAE J2716. It was implemented in FPGA, and verified on a test board. When it was synthesized, the gate count is about 2,500 gates in 0.18um technology.

  • Pro-program function of Pro/E has been utilized to expedite the design process of bellows. Design parameters selected for bellows design are manipulated to obtain the shapes user specified. User-oriented function may automate the bellows design process and this function may enable to reduce the design time remarkably. Generated bellows solid model has been applied to study of design sensitivity and optimum design. Among the selected design parameters, thickness of bellows affects system response most. Control-ring installed bellows may reduce the stress and prove to be an effective element for heavy load. The finite element analysis results combined with 3D model generated by pro-program may provide the feasible design directions to the bellows designer.
