In this paper, we present a method of detecting the boundary of the intima-media complex for automated measurement based on dynamic programming from carotid artery B-mode ultrasound images and then show the experimental results. We apply the dynamic programming for determining the optimal locations that a cost function is minimized. The cost function includes cost terms which are representing image features such as intensity, intensity gradient and geometrical continuity of the vessel interfaces. Moreover, we improve the boundary continuity by applying the B-spline to smooth the rough boundary due to noise such as speckle, dropout and weak edges. The proposed method has obtained more accurate reproducible results than conventional edge-detection by considering multiple image features and ensures efficient automated measurement by solving the problems of the inter- and intra-observer variability and its inefficiency due to manual measurement.

The load analysis for the distribution system and facilities has relied on measurement equipment. Moreover, load monitoring incurs huge costs in terms of installation and maintenance. This paper presents a new model to analyze wherein facilities load under a feeder every 15 minutes using meter reading data that can be obtained from a power consumer every 15 minute or a month even without setting up any measuring equipment. After the data warehouse is constructed by interfacing the legacy system required for the load calculation, the relationship between the distribution system and the power consumer is established. Once the load pattern is forecasted by applying clustering and classification algorithm of temporal data mining techniques for the power customer who is not involved in Automatic Meter Reading(AMR), a single-line diagram per feeder is created, and power flow calculation is executed. The calculation result is analyzed using various temporal and spatial analysis methods such as Internet Geographic Information System(GIS), single-line diagram, and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP).
A multipurpose TLD readout system for radiation dosimetry and thermoluminescence study is constructed and its characteristics are investigated. The thermoluminescent lights are measured by a PM tube and the current-to-frequency converter. TLDs are heated by platinum heater and the heating rate is linearly varied. Measurement of the glow curve and control of the whole system have been done by a personal computer equipped with an interface board. The automatic gain control can be done by the control software. The lower detection limit of the system is about $10\;{\mu}Gy$ and dose response is linear.
Density is a physical property which contains information relating to the internal quality of fruits and vegetables, and can be used as an index for nondestructive quality evaluation. Density sorting has been employed by farmers for some agricultural products since ancient times. In this study, an automatic density measuring system based on the platform scale or water displacement method was developed for density sorting of watermelon. It consisted of water tan, load cell, net tray, electric motor, limit switch, control system and its program. The resolution of density was 0.001 g/㎤. In order to calibrate and evaluate the accuracy, the density was measured using a balloon kept in cold water. It showed 1.002 g/㎤ which almost correspond to real density of water. Test results with 6 watermelons and 3 replications showed that the standard deviations of the dens were 0.001∼0.004 g/㎤. The relationship between density and internal quality of watermelon was investigated using the system. The densities of hollow watermelons were less than 0.950 g/㎤, it was apparent that the density of the watermelon was related to the degree of hollowness. But the soluble solid contents and internal defects could not be estimated from the density.

The automobile industry is ubiquitous and involved in the handling of metal, machines, electricity, electron, and chemistry including the products of many types of processes. In the process of installing engines as a part of the car assembly line, the measurement and correction of the position of the stud bolts consumes a great deal of time. Additionally, defective parts must be manually removed. In the process of engine installation, the speed of the operation, related to the economics of vehicle assembly, is dependent upon measuring the precise position of the stud bolt, reducing the length of correction time, and increasing the working rate. This paper deals with securing the economic feasibility of the manufacturing process, increasing the safety by removing risk factors in the working area, and improving and equalizing the quality by developing an automatic system for the process involving a stud bolt.
A control of the body posture and movement is maintained by the vestibular system, vision, and proprioceptors. Especially, vestibular system has a very important function that controls the eye movement through vestibuloocular reflex and contraction of skeletal muscles through vestibulospinal reflex. However, postural disturbance caused by loss of vestibular function results in nausea, vomiting, vertigo and loss of craving for life. Lose of vestibular function leads to abnormal reflex of eye movements named nystagmus. Analysis of the nystagmus is needed to diagnose the vertigo, which is performed by means of electronystagmography (ENG). The purpose of this study is to develop a computerized system for data processing and an algorithm for the automatic evaluation of the slow component velocity (SCV) of nystagmus Induced by optokinetic(OKN) stimulation system. A new algorithm using recursive least square method (RLSM) to detect SCV of nystagmus is suggested in this paper. This method allows a fast and precise evaluation of the nystagmus, through artifact rejection techniques. The results are depicted in this paper.
Human pulse represents the physical characteristics of heart and cardiovascular system. Therefore, malfunctions and errors of heart and cardiovascular system can be determined by using an automatic diagnosis system that can detect the pulse signal. Not only will the computerised system preclude the possibilities of observational errors by giving an accurate measurement with great stability, but minimize the possibilities of misinterpretation by using an automated diagnostic logic. A new combinational fiber-optic sensor, which has a detecting part and a transmitting part was used to acquire radial pulse signal noninvasively. The development of P-5 transducer makes it possible to obtain more effective detection and obvious display of pulse signals in the aspect of reliability. Using P-5 transducer in the field of plethysomography and MAC- JIN, one of our diagnoses in Korean traditional medicine, it is expected that we can ontain quantitative and valuable information or the diagnosis of human pulses.

Since the quality of the coated wires is in various applications dependant on the coating depth, accuracy of hole size of dies used for coating wires must be maintained precisely, in general within one micron. This paper proposes a new vision system which measures automatically the size and shape of small holes having diameters less than 1mm within an error limit of 1 micron. To quickly obtain the focused image, this paper proposes an estimation method of the camera position using only a couple of defocused hole images. It measures the distributions of light intensity around the image boundary and decides the direction and distance of a camera motion. The proposed system measures the size, shape distortion, inclination of the hole against the axis of the dies structure, to decides the acceptability of the dies for use. The proposed algorithm has been implemented using a cheap 640${\times}$480 image system and has shown an average size error of 1micron when measuring the dieses having 0.1mm to 1.0mm diameters. It can be applied to the inspection of the size and position of holes in PCB, too.

Theoretical developments in the information retrieval have offered a number of alternatives to traditional Boolean retrieval. Probability theory and fuzzy set theory have played prominent roles here. Fuzzy set theory is an attempt to generalize traditional set theory by permitting partial membership in a set and this means recognizing different degrees to which a document can match a request. In this study, an experimentation of a document retrieval system using the fuzzy relation matrix of the keywords is described and the results are offered. The queries composed of keywords and Boolean operaters AND, OR, NOT were processed in the retrieval method, and the method was implemented on the PC of 32bit level (30 MHz) in an experimental system. The measurement of the recall ratio and precision ratio verified the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy relation matrix of keywords and retrieval method. Compared to traditional crisp method in the same document database, the recall ratio increased $10\%$ high although the precision ratio decreased slightly. The problems, in this experiment, to be resolved are first, the design of the automatic data input and fuzzy indexing modules, through which the system . can have the ability of competition and usefulness. Second, devising a systematic procedure for assigning fuzzy weights to keywords in documents and in queries.

Typically welded bellows are checked with human eye and microscope, and then go through leakage test of gas. The proposed system alternates these heuristic techniques using support vector machines. Image procedures in the proposed method can cover the irregularity problem induced from human being. To get easy observation through microscope, 3D display system is also exploited. Experimental results from this automatic measurement show the welding detection is done within one tenth of permitted error range.
