This paper describes an automated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system for micromachines whose size range 10 to 10$^3$${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. An automatic finite element mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commercial finite clement (FE) analysis codes, MARC, and one of commercial solid modelers, Designbase. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be a automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, i.e. electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis and so on. The FE analysis models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are performed. This system is successfully applied to an electrostatic micro actuator.
This paper describes an automated evaluation of electrostatic field for micro motors whose sizes range 10 to 103um. Electric field modeling in micro motors has been generally restricted to in-plane two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). In this paper, the actual three-dimensional geometry of the micro motor is considered. An automatic FE mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated in the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, electrostatic analysis and stress analysis and so on. The FE models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are peformed. Then, analytical analysis and FE analysis about the torque generated by electrostatic micro motor are performed. The starting torque is proportional to $V^2$, the calculated starting torque from the two-dimensional analytical solutions are three times larger than those from the three-dimensional FE solutions.
This paper describes a new automated simulation system for micromachines whose size range $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-3}$ m. An automic finite element (FE) mesh generation technique, which is bases on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computation al geometry technique, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commerical FE analysis codes, MARC, and one of commerical solid modelers, Designbase. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena of micromachines to be analyzed, i,e. electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis and so on. The FE models are then automatically analyzed using the FE analysis code. Among a whole process of analysis, the definition of a geometry model, the designation of local node patterns and the assignment of material properties and boundary conditions onto the geometry model are only the interactive process to be done by a user. The interactive operations can be processed in a few minutes. The other processes which are time consuming and labour-intensive in conventional CAE systems are fully automatically performed in a popular engineering workstation environment. This automated simulation system is successfully applied to evaluate an electrostatic micro wobble actuator.

This paper describes a control algorithm and test results of an automated manual transmission clutch actuated by a stepping motor. The control algorithm extracts driver's demand from CAN signals and decides the exact timing to engage or disengage the clutch based on the demand. A pulse signal is generated to drive the clutch and the travel of the clutch can be calculated by accumulating the pulse signal. An auto code generation method was introduced in implementing the control logic to the micro-processor of the prototype controller and a series of basic tests were carried out to validate its performance.

It is usual for test data generation to be performed using either high-level specifications or source codes written in high-level programming languages. In certain circumstances, however, such information is not always available. This paper presents a technique that generates test data based on executable object codes. The proposed technique makes use of a very simple function minimization technique without sophisticated object code analysis and produces test data dynamically. We have conducted a simple experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed test data generation technique with a triangle classification program to show that branch coverage can be easily achieved.

Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and the measurement of clay or wood models fur the development of new products. To generate a surface from measured points by a laser scanner, typical steps include the scanning of a clay or wood model, the generation of compatible input curves, the generation of a surface and manufacturing data like G code or STL file. A laser scanner has a great potential to get geometrical data of a model for its frost measuring speed and higher precision. The data from a laser scanner are composed of many line stripes of points including small spikes and noise. A new approach using automated surface generating algorithm is introduced to deal with problems during reverse engineering process. And the input data and the generated surface are represented in IGES format, thus can be supplied to other CAD/CAM software without any data manipulation.

The interactive operations can be processed in a few minutes. The other processes which are time consuming and labour-intensive in conventional CAE systems are fully automatically performed in a personal computer environment. The proposed analysis system is successfully applied to evaluate a model plane entwine.
Because a product in the car industry has a short life cycle in recent years, the process planning and the manufacturing lines have to be changed frequently. Most of time, repositioning an existing facility and modifying used control information are faster than making completely new process planning. However, control information and control code such as PLC code are difficult to understand. Hence, industries prefer writing a new control code instead of using the existing complex one. It shows the lack of information reusability in the existing process planning. As a result, to reduce this redundancy and lack of reusability, we propose a SOS-Net modeling method. SOS-Net is a standard methodology used to describe control information. It is based on the Device Structure which consists of sensor information derived from device hardware information. Thus, SOS-Net can describe a real control state for automated manufacturing systems. The SOS-Net model is easy to understand and can be converted into PLC Code easily. It also enables to modify control information, thus increases the reusability of the new process planning. Proposed model in this paper plays an intermediary role between the process planning and PLC code generation. It can reduce the process planning and implementation time as well as cost.
