  • Amorphous InGaZnO (${\alpha}$-IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) are are very promising due to their potential use in thin film electronics and display drivers [1]. However, the stability of AOS-TFTs under the various stresses has been issued for the practical AOSs applications [2]. Up to now, many researchers have studied to understand the sub-gap density of states (DOS) as the root cause of instability [3]. Nomura et al. reported that these deep defects are located in the surface layer of the ${\alpha}$-IGZO channel [4]. Also, Kim et al. reported that the interfacial traps can be affected by different RF-power during RF magnetron sputtering process [5]. It is well known that these trap states can influence on the performances and stabilities of ${\alpha}$-IGZO TFTs. Nevertheless, it has not been reported how these defect states are created during conventional RF magnetron sputtering. In general, during conventional RF magnetron sputtering process, negative oxygen ions (NOI) can be generated by electron attachment in oxygen atom near target surface and accelerated up to few hundreds eV by self-bias of RF magnetron sputter; the high energy bombardment of NOIs generates bulk defects in oxide thin films [6-10] and can change the defect states of ${\alpha}$-IGZO thin film. In this paper, we have confirmed that the NOIs accelerated by the self-bias were one of the dominant causes of instability in ${\alpha}$-IGZO TFTs when the channel layer was deposited by conventional RF magnetron sputtering system. Finally, we will introduce our novel technology named as Magnetic Field Shielded Sputtering (MFSS) process [9-10] to eliminate the NOI bombardment effects and present how much to be improved the instability of ${\alpha}$-IGZO TFTs by this new deposition method.

  • Inadequate keratinized mucosa around dental implants can lead to more plaque accumulation, tissue inflammation, marginal recession and attachment loss. We evaluated the effects of free gingival and extracellular matrix membrane grafts performed to increase the insufficient width of keratinized tissue around dental implants in the posterior mandible. A 47-year-old female patient presented with discomfort due to swelling of the lower right second premolar area. Due to severe destruction of alveolar bone, the tooth was extracted. After 3 months, a guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedure was performed and then a dental implant was placed 6 months later. During the second-stage implant surgery, free gingival grafting was performed to increase the width of the keratinized tissue. After 12 months, a clinical evaluation was performed. A 64-year-old female patient had a missing tooth area of bilateral lower molar region with narrow zone of keratinized gingiva and horizontal alveolar bone loss. Simultaneous implant placement and GBR were performed. Five months after the first-stage implant surgery, a gingival augmentation procedure was performed with an extracellular matrix membrane graft to improve the width of the keratinized tissue in the second-stage implant surgery. After 12 months, a clinical evaluation was performed. In these two clinical cases, 12 months of follow-up, revealed that the increased width of the keratinized tissue and the deepened oral vestibule was well maintained. A patient showed a good oral hygiene status. In conclusion, increased width of keratinized tissue around dental implants could improve oral hygiene and could have positive effects on the long-term stability and survival rate of dental implants. When planning a keratinized tissue augmentation procedure, clinicians should consider patient-reported outcomes.

  • Protein carboxyl Ο-methylation is a kind of enzymatic reaction producing carboxyl methylester catalyzed by protein carboxyl Ο-methyltransferases at the carboxyl group of amino acid residues in polypeptide. Since the finding of carboxyl methylesterl many studies have been focused on the under-standing of biological functions in eukaryotes but still not clear except for roles in Ras attachment to membrane and protein repair. In this study, we investigated the protein carboxyl methylation in porcine liver and testis in respect of identification and characterization of carboxyl methylesters and natural proteinous substrates using pH stability of the esters and electrophoresis under acidic and basic conditions. We detected several kinds of methyl esters, 3 kinds each in cytosolic fractions from liver and testis. Under the treatment of strong acid and base, the ratio between base-stable substrates and unstable ones in liver (4 : 6) was different from the ratio obtained in testis (6 : 4). The methyl accepting capacities were affected by enzymatic proteolysis between the range of 55 to 65% in liver and of 35 to 45% in testis. Separation of the methylated proteins by acidic electrophoresis in the presence of urea and SDS revealed distinctively natural substrates of 26, 33 and 80 kD in the cytosol from liver and of 14, 25, 32 and 86 kD from testis. Most of the labelling, however were lost following electrophoresis under moderate alkaline condition, except for molecules of newly detected 7 and 17 kD in livers and 15, 29, 40 and 80 kD in testis. From these results, it was proposed that protein carboxyl Ο-methylation in each organs may be catalyzed by different classes of protein carboxyl Ο-methyltransferases. In addition, it is suggested that the protein carboxyl methylation in liver and testis may have different patterns in respect of natural substrates.

  • Raw-starch-digesting enzyme (RSDA) was immobilized on Amberlite beads by conjugation of glutaraldehyde/polyglutaraldehyde (PG)-activated beads or by crosslinking. The effect of immobilization on enzyme stability and catalytic efficiency was evaluated. Immobilization conditions greatly influenced the immobilization efficiency. Optimum pH values shifted from pH 5 to 6 for spontaneous crosslinking and sequential crosslinking, to pH 6-8 for RSDA covalently attached on polyglutaraldehyde-activated Amberlite beads, and to pH 7 for RSDA on glutaraldehyde-activated Amberlite. RSDA on glutaraldehyde-activated Amberlite beads had no loss of activity after 2 h storage at pH 9; enzyme on PG-activated beads lost 9%, whereas soluble enzyme lost 65% of its initial activity. Soluble enzyme lost 50% initial activity after 3 h incubation at $60^{\circ}C$, whereas glutaraldehyde-activated derivative lost only 7.7% initial activity. RSDA derivatives retained over 90% activity after 10 batch reuse at $40^{\circ}C$. The apparent $K_m$ of the enzyme reduced from 0.35 mg/ml to 0.32 mg/ml for RSDA on glutaraldehyde-activated RSDA but increased to 0.42 mg/ml for the PG-activated RSDA derivative. Covalent immobilization on glutaraldehyde Amberlite beads was most stable and promises to address the instability and contamination issues that impede the industrial use of RSDAs. Moreover, the cheap, porous, and non-toxic nature of Amberlite, ease of immobilization, and high yield make it more interesting for the immobilization of this enzyme.

  • Protein unfolding is a key step in several cellular processes, including protein translocation across some membranes and protein degradation by ATP-dependent proteases. C1pAP protease and the proteasome can actively unfold proteins in a process that hydrolyzes ATP, These proteases catalyze unfolding by processively unraveling their substrates from the attachment point of the degradation signal. As a consequence, the ability of a protein to be degraded depends on its structure as well as its stability. An ${\alpha}$-helix is easier to unravel than a ${\beta}$-strand. In multidomain proteins, independently stable domains are unfolded sequentially. The steric constraints imposed on substrate proteins during their degradation by the proteasome were investigated by constructing a model protein in which specific parts of the polypeptide chain were covalently connected through disulfide bridges. The cross-linked model proteins were fully degraded by the proteasome, but two or more cross-links retarded the degradation slightly. Our results suggest that the pore of the proteasome allows the concurrent passage of at least three stretches of a polypeptide chain, and also explain the limited degradation by the proteasome that occurs in the processing of the transcription factor NF-KB, and also implicate difficulty in degradation of amyloidal aggregates by the proteasome

  • In this study the thin films with the structure of Si+SiO$_2$+TiN are made by RF supttering method. TiN, which has small diffusion coefficient and low resistivity, is evaporated between SiO$_2$ and Al layers. It investigates the V-R characteristics depending on the thickness of SiO$_2$ which is used as insulation layer and researches its effects on voltage stability of thin film and varistor. These films show very small resistance valus in negative(-) voltage and large and large value in positive voltage band, and with the increase of voltage, resistance value is rapidly reduced and the satisfactory characteristic of varistor is shown at +1[V]. It is found that resistance value of TiN thin film is small and also TiN thin film has more current than the thin film which is not evaporated by TiN thin film. When Al electrode is evaporated of SiO$_2$ thin film, spiking occurs, but the spiking can be prevented with evaporation of TiN between SiO$_2$ and Al layers and this thin films in made easily because of its good attachment. With the increase of voltage, the resistance is changed into non-linear pattern and the bidirectional varistor characteristic is shown and then its theory can be verified by this experiment. Accordingly, when TiN is evaporated of Si Wafer(n-100), it obtains better voltage-resistance than thin film which is not evaporated and also when varistor character is used electrically to automatic control element such as elimination of flame, power distribution arrestor and constant voltage compensation, satisfactory reproducibilities are expected.

  • A successful scaffold should have a highly porous structure and good mechanical stability. High porosity and appropriate pore size provide structural matrix for initial cell attachment and proliferation enabling the exchange of nutrients between the scaffold and environment. In this paper the highly porous scaffold of poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) electrospun nanofibers could be manufactured with an auxiliary electrode and chemical blowing agent (BA) under several processing conditions, such as the concentration of PCL solution, weight percent of a chemical blowing agent, and decomposition time of a chemical blowing agent. To attain stable electrospinnability and blown nanofiber mats having high microporosity and large pore, a processing condition, 8wt% of PCL solution and 0.5wt% of a chemical blowing agent under $100^{\circ}C$ and decomposition time of $2{\sim}3\;s$, was used. The growth characteristic of human dermal fibroblasts cells cultured in the mats showed the good adhesion and proliferation on the blown mat compared to a normal electrospun mat.

  • This study analyzed the flow inside floating seedling equipment for Scapharca subcrenata. Due to the aging society of fishing villages, it is impossible to continuously input the labor force. Therefore, it is necessary to improve efficiency. Scapharca subcrenata has high per capita consumption. It serves as an important aquatic food resource. Scapharca subcrenata culture tends to be highly dependent on the natural environment. Production of Scapharca subcrenata is difficult to predict with low stability. In the past, manpower directly installed bamboo nets in mudflats. The seedling equipment devised in this study is a floating type and can be freely moved on the sea according to the prediction of Scapharca subcrenata generation. The flow around the floating seedling equipment was analyzed by numerical analysis. The physical phenomena of the flow around the net inside the floating seedling equipment were visualized. As a result, the space between the floating seedling equipment and the bottom net and the space between the net groups showed a lower flow rate than the inlet flow rate. It is expected that the low flow rate of the floating seedling equipment will have a positive effect on the attachment of Scapharca subcrenata.

  • Purpose: To investigate MRI findings of the repaired anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Materials and Methods: Seventeen of arthroscopic ACL primary repair with sutures pull-out technique were followed for 21.4 months (range: 12 to 60 months). Stability was assessed with physical examination and KT-1000 arthrometer (MED metric, San Diego, CA) and postoperative MRI checked with time. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the location of tear which was defined with the location of remained synovial sleeve. Group I (11 patients) comprised that the tear was located within proximal 1/3 of ACL substance and group II (6 patients) comprised below proximal 1/3. MRI findings of the repaired ACL were evaluated by its course, sharpness, thickness and signal intensity using 3 grade system and correlated with its location of tear. Results: In all cases, Lachman test and flexion-rotation drawer test were negative, pivot-shift test was less than grade 1 and the mean side-to-side difference by use of KT-1000 arthrometer was 1.4 mm (range: -1.0 to 2.5 mm). The overall continuity of the repaired ACL was well maintained in all cases. However, mild sagging was observed in 10 cases(58.8%), mild obscure contour in 6 cases (35.3%), increased thickness in 8 cases (47.1%) and slight increased signal intensity in 5 cases (29.5%). There was no statistical significance in all parameters between 2 groups. And a focal defect at the femoral attachment site in sagittal image was observed in 7 cases (41.2%) of all patients which comprised 2 cases (18.2%) of group I and 5 cases (83.3%) of group II. It was observed more frequently in group II with statistical significance (p=0.035). Conclusion: Some abnormal MRI findings such as mild sagged course, obscure contour, increased thickness and signal intensity, the focal defect at femoral attachment site could be observed even though the stability was well maintained clinically. We thought that the focal defect was affected by the location of tear of ACL.

  • Treatment with removable partial denture is effective for partially edentulous patients who are unable to obtain sufficient retention and stability for functional and esthetic restoration. There are several cases reporting the improvement of retention and stability of the partial denture using a small number of implants. However, there are limited studies on the implant-assisted removable partial denture using a small number of remaining teeth and the bar locator system. The bar locator system has an advantage in that it could compensate the angle of insertion of removable prosthesis on implant with inconsistent placement angle due to anatomical constraints compared to when using the locator only. This case report describes the patient with $Parkinson^{\circ}$Øs disease who was treated with the Locator bar system using two previously placed implants and two remaining teeth on maxilla. No additional implants could be placed because of the medical and economic condition of the patients, and the angle of one of two implants could not be matched with the direction of the removable partial denture insertion. Considering the angle of the implants, the patient was treated with implant-assisted RPD using the Locator bar system and had satisfactory results in the aspect of esthetics, masticatory function, and oral hygiene maintenance.
