Physical detection methods, photostimulated luminescence (PSL), thermoluminescence (TL) and electron spin resonance (ESR) were applied to detect electron beam-irradiated agricultural products, such as red pepper, black pepper, raisin, walnut, beef seasoning and pistachio. The absorbed irradiation doses for representative samples were controled at 0, 1, 3, 5 and 10 kGy. PSL values for non-irradiated samples were <700 counts/60s (lower threshold, $T_1$) except beef seasoning, whereas those of irradiated samples were more than 5,000 photon counts, upper threshold ($T_2$) in black pepper, raisin, and beef seasoning and intermediates values of $T_1-T_2$ in red pepper, walnut, and pistachio. Minerals seperated from the samples for TL measurement showed that non-irradiated samples except pistachio (TL ratio, 0.12) were characterized by no glow curves situated at temperature range of $50{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ with TL ratio (0.01~0.08), while irradiated samples except pistachio at only 1 kGy (TL ratio, 0.08) indicated glow curve at about $150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$ with TL ratio (0.28~3.10). ESR measurements of irradiated samples showed any specific signals to irradiation. The samples of both red pepper and pistachio were produced specific signals derived from cellulose radicals as well as single line signals for black pepper and walnut, and multiple signals derived from crystalline sugar radicals for raisin and beef seasoning. In conclusion, The ESR methods can apply for detection of pistachio exposed to electron beam but PSL and TL are not suitable methods. Furthermore, TL and ESR suggeted that both techniques were more useful detection method than PSL to confirm whether red pepper, walnut and beef seasoning samples have been exposed to electron beam.
This paper describes the results of an irradiation test and the specifications of the pneumatic transfer system (PTS) in the NAA #3 irradiation hole at the HANARO research reactor, which was reinstalled after some modifications of the operation mode at the end of 2004. The outer and inner diameters of the PE transfer tube are 34.1 and 27.5 mm, respectively. PE rabbit was used for sample irradiation. The $N_2$ gas pressure of the PTS lines was adjusted to 0.75 bar. The average sending time to the reactor was $8.5{\pm}0.3$ s and the average receiving time back to the receiver was $3.2{\pm}0.2$ s. The internal and external temperature of the irradiation tube was measured in a range of 50 to $80^{\circ}C$ for a 40 s to 80 s irradiation time, respectively. The optimum irradiation time was estimated to be less than 80 s. The thermal, epithermal and fast neutron flux at 30 MW thermal power were $1.42{\pm}0.01{\times}10^{14},\;1.51{\pm}0.04{\times}10^{13}$ and $9.48{\pm}0.69{\times}10^{11} n{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\codt}s^{1-}$, respectively. The cadmium ratio was approximately 9.40. The data obtained will be applied to supplement user information and for reactor management.

Tantalum carbide, which is one of the ultra-high temperature ceramics, was deposited on graphite by low pressure chemical vapor deposition from a $TaCl_5-C_3H_6-Ar-H_2$ mixture. To maintain a constant $TaCl_5/C_3H_6$ ratio during the deposition process, $TaCl_5$ powders were continuously fed into the sublimation chamber using a screw-driven feeder. Sublimation behavior of $TaCl_5$ powder was measured by thermogravimetric analysis. TaC coatings have various phases such as $Ta+{\alpha}-Ta_2C$, ${\alpha}-Ta_2C+TaC_{1-x}$, and $TaC_{1-x}$ depending on the powder feeding methods, the $C_3H_6/TaCl_5$ ratio, and the deposition temperatures. Near-stoichiometric TaC was obtained by optimizing the deposition parameters. Phase compositions were analyzed by XRD, XPS, and Raman analysis.

We investigated the changes of (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder characteristics with $CeO_2$ contents and ball-milling time and then studied on the sintering properties with those (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder characteristics. From the results of this study, it was concluded that the longer ball-milling time of (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder was, the finer its particle size was. Green and sintered densities were decreased with $CeO_2$ contensts increase. And also $CeO_2$ was recongized deteriorating oxide on the $UO_2$ sintering. In case of the lOwt. % $CeO_2$ contents, (U, Ce)$O_2$ sintered pellet which was made of ball-milled powder for 4 hours had few pores and its pores got near to the sphere. And its sintered density had the highest. Because its powder had higher surface area and its packing ratio was appropriated much better than others.

The containment pressure and temperature transient analysis computer code CONTEMPT4/MOD5 is modified to incorporate the passive containment cooling models. The correlations are selected from the existing experimental heat transfer correlations to model the natural and mixed convection in annular space between the containment shell and the shield building. The evaporative heat transfer of the water film on the outer shell of the containment is modeled using the correlations derived from the analogy between the heat and mass transfer. The modified code is applied to the Ap600 containment transient analysis for the model verification and the results are compared to the results of GOTHIC calculation done by Westinghouse. Also, d series of parametric sensitivity studies of heat transfer correlations, water film ratio and delay time of the wet cooling on the containment peak pressure and temperature following LOCA are performed for the containment of 1000MWe passive plant, KP1000.

A study on the preparation of nickel oxide nanoparticles using electron beam irradiation is described. Nickel nanoparticles were synthesized with nickel chloride hexahydrate as a metal precursor and different sodium hydroxide concentrations using electron beam irradiation. The effects of sodium hydroxide concentration and electron beam absorbed doses were investigated. The samples were synthesized at different sodium hydroxide concentrations and with absorbed doses of 100 to 500 kGy at room temperature. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The nanoparticle morphologies seemed to be non-spherical and aggregated. The 1:1 molar ratio of nickel chloride hexahydrate and sodium hydroxide showed a higher purity and saturation magnetization value of 13.0 emu/g. The electron beam absorbed dose was increased with increasing nickel nanoparticle nucleation.
We have investigated in detail the operating properties of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors with a double conical and a cylindrical structure in a wide range of external fields and GEM voltages. With the double conical GEM, the gain gradually increased with time by 10%; whereas this surface charging was eliminated with the cylindrical GEM. Effective gains above 1000 were easily observed over a wide range of collection field strengths in a gas mixture of $Ar/CO_2(70/30)$. The transparency and electron collection efficiency were found to depend on the ratio of external field and the applied GEM voltage; the mutual influence of both drift and collection fields was found to be trivial.

An analysis for Steam Line Break (SLB) events which result in a return-to-power conditions after reactor trip was performed for a postulated Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 cycle 8. Analysis methodology for post-trip return-to-power SLB is quite different from that of a no return-to-power SLB and is more complicated. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an methodology to analyze the response of the NSSS parameter and the fuel performance for the post-trip return-to-power SLB events. In this analysis, the cases with and without offsite power were simulated by crediting 3-D reactivity feedback effect due to local heatup around stuck CEA and compared with the cases without 3-D reactivity feedback with respect to fuel performance, departure from nucleate boiling ratio (DNBR) and linear heat generation rate (LHGR).
This work describes the adaptation of extractive scintillation by URAE $X^{TM}$ with a photon-electron rejecting alpha liquid scintillation (PERAL $S^{)}$ spectrometer to the analysis of uranium in aqueous samples. The extraction efficiency of the system was evaluated under varing chemical conditions including pH, and sample-cocktail volume ratio. Isotopic information from the (PERAL $S^{)}$ spectrum of natural uranium was obtained using a curve fitting routine. Comparisons of the result with that obtained from alpha spectrometry method using ion implanted silicon detector showed good agreement.t.
A heavy duty power manipulator consisting of high reduction ratio joints is usually used in heavy duty tasks. When the heavy duty power manipulator is used as the slave manipulator in the teleoperated bilateral control system, the position control performance of the slave manipulator and the system stability tend to deteriorate due to the windup phenomenon caused by actuator saturation. KAERI has developed a teleoperated bilateral control system for the study of the remote handling of a spent fuel mockup bundle, which has an enhanced bilateral control algorithm improving the position tracking performance of the slave manipulator while compensating for the windup phenomenon. In this paper, the developed bilateral control system ...
