  • In this paper we propose a sensor fusion method for the navigation algorithm which can be used to estimate state vectors such as position and velocity for its motion control using multi-sensor output measurements. The output measurement we will use in estimating the state is a series of known multi-sensor asynchronous outputs with measurement noise. This paper investigates the Extended Kalman Filtering method to merge asynchronous heading, heading rate, velocity of DVL, and SSBL information to produce a single state vector. Different complexity of Kalman Filter, with. biases and measurement noise, are investigated with theoretically data from MOERI's SAUV. All levels of complexity of the Kalman Filters are shown to be much more close and smooth to real trajectories then the basic underwater acoustic navigation system commonly used aboard underwater vehicle.

  • Energy efficiency is an essential requirement in designing a MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using battery-operated sensor nodes. We proposed a new receiver-initiated MAC protocol, RIX-MAC, based on the X-MAX protocol with asynchronous duty cycles. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of RIX-MAC protocol in terms of throughput, delay, and energy consumption using the model. For modeling the protocol, we used the Markov chain model, derived the transmission and state probabilities, and obtained the equations to solve the performance of throughput, delay, and energy consumption. Our proposed model and analysis are validated by comparing numerical results obtained from the model, with simulation results using NS-2.

  • In this paper, we propose a test pattern generation algorithm on the basis of the identification of undetectable faults for Speed-Independent(SI) asynchronous control circuits. The proposed methodology generates tests from the specification of a target circuit, which describes the behavior of the circuit in the form of Signal Transition Graph (STG). The proposed identification method uses only topological information of a target circuit and reachability information of a fault-free circuit, which is generated in the form of Binary Decision Diagram(BDD) during pre-processing. Experimental results show that high fault coverage over single input stuck-at fault model is obtained for several synthesized SI circuits and the use of the identification process as a preprocessing decreases execution time of the proposed test generation with negligible costs.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of asynchronous haptic and video feedback on the performance of teleoperation. To analyze the effect, a tele-manipulation experiment is specially designed, which operator moves square objects from one place to another place by using master/slave telerobotic system. Task completion time and total number of falling of the object are used for evaluating the performance. Subjective study was conducted with 10 subjects in 16 different combinations of video and haptic feedback while participants didn't have any prior information about the amount of each delay. Initially we assume that synchronized haptic and video feedback would give best performance. However as a result, we found that the accuracy was increased when haptic and video feedback was synchronized, and the completion time was decreased when one of the feedback (either haptic or video) was decreased. Another interesting fact that we found in this experiment is that it showed even better accuracy when haptic information arrives little bit earlier than video information, than the case when those are synchronized.

  • This paper is about Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) cell security in which an Output Feedback (OFB) mode is applied to an AES block ciphers. ATM cells are divided into user data cells and maintenance cells, and each cell is 53 octets in size and consists of a header of 5 octets and a payload of 48 octets. In order to encrypt/decrypt ATM cells, the boundaries of cells must be detected, which is possible using the Header Error Control (HEC) field in the header. After detecting the boundary of the cell, the type of payload is detected using a payload type (PT) code to encrypt only the user cell. In this paper, a security method for ATM cells that satisfies the requirements of ISO 9160 is presented.

  • Asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) is flexible to support the various multimedia communication services such as data, voice, and image by applying asynchronous time-sharing and statistical multiplexing techniques to the existing data communication. ATM service is categorized to CBR, VBR, UBR, and ABR according to characteristics of the traffic and a required service qualities. Among them, ABR service guarantees a minimal bandwidth and can transmit cells at a maximum transmission rate within the available bandwidth. To minimize the cell losses in transmission and switching, a feedback information in ATM network is used to control the traffic. In this paper, predictive control algorithms are proposed for the feedback information. When the feedback information takes a long propagation delay to the backward nodes, ATM switch can experience a congestion situation from the queue length increases, and a high queue length fluctuations in time. The control algorithms proposed in this paper provides predictive control model using slop changes of the queue length function and previous data of the queue lengths. Simulation shows the effectiveness result of the proposed control algorithms.

  • For electrical vehicles, switched reluctance drives present a promising alternative-compared to asynchronous and synchronous (permanent magnet) concepts. For these applications, a very wide field weakening range is a key issue. Other requirements include high torque output from a small machine and low current ripple at the DC-side without the use of bulky filters - when powered from fuel cells or advanced Lithium-Ion-batteries. A new converter and control strategy according to these requirements is presented and compared to existing designs. The comparison is done for a drive system with a continuous power rating of 30 to 40 kW.

  • The main objective of this paper is to propose a new stability analysis method for a networked control system with multiple packet transmission. The new scheduling method that can guarantee the maximum time delay and discrete switch state equation model which represent a network data loss is proposed. The equivalent model of a MIMO(multi-input multi-output) networked control system is derived from a state space model of linear time invariant interconnected systems in the form of asynchronous dynamical system. Using this model, this paper presents new stability theorems that can determine stability of the networked control system with regard to time delay, data loss, and the number of transmission packets. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of proposed stability analysis method.

  • Orthogonal codes like Walsh and Golay codes may have large correlation value when they are not synchronized, hence they are seldom used in asynchronous CDMA systems. Wysocki[1] showed that by multiplying the original Walsh-Hadamard matrix with an orthogonal transformation matrix the resultant matrix sustains orthogonality between row vectors and their cross-correlation can be reduced. Soberly and Wysocki[2] proposed similar scheme on Golay codes. This implies that using the proper orthogonal transformation cross-correlation of Walsh and Golay codes can be reduced, and the transformed codes can be used for user separation in the CDAM reverse link. In this paper we discuss cross-correlation related parameters which affect the performance of an asynchronous CDMA link, and we investigate the correlation properties of the transformed codes. When we designed orthogonal transformation matrices for Walsh and Golay codes, we minimized the maximum value of aperiodic cross-correlation of the codes ($ACC_{max}$) or the mean square value of the aperiodic cross-correlation($R_{cc}$) with preserving the orthogonality of the modified codes. We also evaluate the asynchronous CDMA system that uses the transformed Walsh and Golay codes.

  • A high speed tracking control for 6-6 Stewart platform manipulator is performed by employing the joint-axis sliding mode control based on dynamics. Because of the complex dynamics and kinematics of Stewart platform manipulator, two computer systems, consisting of a PC and a DSP, are adopted, so that real time tasks are run in synchronous and asynchronous modes. It is experimentally proven that the proposed control system leads to an easy to implement and effective control task, and it can achieve the high performance tracking control under the high speed and severe payload condition.
