  • The degradation of atrazine was explored using UV alone, $H_2O_2/UV$, oxalate/UV and oxalate-assisted $H_2O_2/UV$. The addition of oxalate to the $H_2O_2/UV$ (oxalate-assisted $H_2O_2/UV$) process was the most effective method for the degradation of atrazine. The overall kinetic rate constant was split into the direct oxidation due to photolysis and that by the radicals from hydrogen peroxide or oxalate. In semi-empirical terms, the initial concentration of hydrogen peroxide had a greater contribution than that of oxalate for atrazine oxidation.

  • Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shape. In this study, the simulations and experiments of thermoforming processes were performed to investigate the effects of process conditions on thickness distribution and printed pattern deformation of films in vacuum-assisted thermoforming. The film thickness uniformity increased with decreasing film heating time, whereas it increased with increasing vacuum delay time. After thermoforming of films with uniform pattern space of 5mm, the maximum space was 9.432mm. Based on the simulation, a modified pattern was calculated to obtain uniform spaces after thermoforming. In the experiments for film with the modified pattern, the maximum space appeared 5.837mm. In, addition. the predicted patterns were in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • The laser-assisted seeding (LAS) process has potential to replace conventional electroless copper plating in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing since it combines the steps of laser drilling and plating into one single process. In the LAS process, the single extra LAS step can metallize a microvia. Thus, the process steps can be greatly reduced and the productivity enhanced, but also the high aspect ratio microvias can be metallized. The objectives of this paper are to study the LAS copper thickness within PCB microvias and the thermal reliability of the microvias produced by this process. It was found that results were satisfactory in both the reliability test and also the LAS copper thickness which both comply with IPC standard, the copper thickness produced by the LAS process is sufficient for subsequent electro-plating process. The reliability of the microvias produced by LAS process is acceptable which are free from any voids, corner cracks, and distortion in the plated copper.

  • Laser-assisted machining (LAM) is an effective machining method for processing difficult-to-cut materials. Prediction and estimation of preheating effect of the LAM is difficult because of moving heat source. So it is necessary to study the preheating effect of the laser heat source irradiated on the curved surfaces of workpieces of various shape. In this paper, thermal analysis of the LAM for 3-dimentional workpiece with cylindrical shape was performed. The results of this analysis can be applied to obtain the optimal preheating method and path for LAM of 3-dimensional workpiece.

  • Today, according to the temperature lowering of VLSI technology which have been required, the new thin film technology of low temperature have appeared. Plasma CVD method, one of low temperature technologies, have major problems with many interface trap defects. In this paper, we prepared ammonia free SiN film containing small H that acts as a defect impurity, and investigated the electrical properties of Laser assisted deposition film.

  • The popularization of streaming networks and mobile devices brings a new kind of network called mobile peer-assisted streaming network. In this network, service provider not only offers downloading services, but also pre-pushes resources to users for caching. Users can download their demanded resources while working as servers for uploading the cached data. Also the mobile characteristic makes high package losing probability in this network. So we study how the service provider pre-pushes or the user downloads resources efficiently and effectively while considering the package losing in this paper. We build utility models for service provider and user, and solve the models using Bellman's theory to achieve Nash Equilibrium which shows the service provider's optimal pre-pushing speed and user's optimal downloading speed. The numerical simulation demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed pre-pushing and downloading scheme by comparing to the traditional scheme.

  • Relay-assisted D2D communication extends the communication range of the D2D pairs and helps users to form D2D pairs effectively. However, due to the introduction of the multi-hop relaying, the D2D communication has to occupy extra transmission time, which may decrease the efficiency of the communication system. In this paper, we propose a scheme to make node receive D2D signal and BS signal at overlapping time to improve the spectrum efficiency according to ZigZag decoding and successive-interference-cancellation (SIC). In this way, more data can be delivered during the same duration, thus the network throughput can be further improved. Numerical results verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme when compared with a baseline scheme. Moreover, we expand the proposed scheme from one-hop relay scenario to multi-hop relay scenario.

  • Loupes-assisted microsurgery often needs an operational head lamp for a better condition of light. This may cause serious neck fatigue due to the weight the operational head lamp, the limitation of the operator's head movement from the hind cable, and some cost for purchasing and management of it. On the contrary, a mountain head lamp is very light, full of freedom in movement, applicable to all types of loupes, and relatively very cheap. In conclusion, a mountain head lame can be a cost-effective light source for Loupes-assisted microsurgery.

  • Using elevators for emergency evacuation has been a controversial topic during the past few years. Generally, elevators are not allowed to be used in the event of a fire or emergency situations all around the world. However elevators assisted emergency evacuation procedures are considered and some of the plans are developed and accepted by the building management and local authorities after 9/11 WTC tragedy. The aim of this study is to quantify the benefit of elevator assisted emergency evacuation based on an actual super high-rise building design.

  • Computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology today is the standard in manufacturing industry. The application of the CAD/CAM technology, together with the emerging 3D medical images based virtual surgical planning (VSP) technology, to craniomaxillofacial reconstruction has been gaining increasing attention to reconstructive surgeons. This article illustrates the components, system and clinical management of the VSP and CAD/CAM technology including: data acquisition, virtual surgical and treatment planning, individual implant design and fabrication, and outcome assessment. It focuses primarily on the technical aspects of the VSP and CAD/CAM system to improve the predictability of the planning and outcome.
