  • Light exerts two primary roles in plant growth and development. Plants acquire all biochemical energy required for growth and propagation solely from light energy via photosynthesis. In addition, light serves as a medium through which plants recognize environmental fluctuations, such as photoperiod and presence of neighboring animals and plants. Plants therefore constantly monitor the direction, intensity, duration, and wavelength of environmental light and integrate these light signals into the intrinsic regulatory programs to achieve an optimized growth in a given light condition. Although light regulates all aspects of plant growth and developmental aspects, the molecular mechanisms and signaling cascades involved have not been well established until recently. However, recent advances in genetic tools and plant transformation techniques greatly facilitated the elucidation of molecular events in plant photomorphogenesis. This mini-review summarizes the gist of recent findings in deetiolation and suppression of shade avoidance response as classic examples of the phytochrome-mediated photomorphogenesis.

  • Licensing contracts between partners in International Joint Ventures(IJV) have not only aspects of relation contract, which is interdependent and long-term cooperative relationships in interpartner but also aspects of discrete contract which is exposed to opportunistic risk caused by IJV partners who maximize individual profit instead of joint payoff maximization. In this circumstance, appropriate compensation structures such as lump-sum and royalty can reduce conflicts and spur interpartner cooperation. In addition, compensation structures that stipulate each party's rights, duties, and responsibilities under various sets of environmental conditions have strong implications for transaction cost minimization and joint payoff maximization. On the other hands, compensation structures such as lump-sum and royalty in IJV licensing contract have benefits and costs depending on IJV partners uncertainty, partner dependency, and environment uncertainty. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to empirically show how partner uncertainty, partner dependence and environment uncertainty influence compensation structure chosen by licensor in IJV.

  • This paper provides a model which is used for SOA based system's quality evaluation. This model make evaluation with "Reliability, Usability, Efficiency, Usability and Maintainability", these five aspects which were reference from ISO/IEC 9126. A systems based on SOA was tested by this model in these five aspects. As the results of the evaluation this system satisfied 61.45% users including Service Requester and Service Registry.

  • The passive acoustic system only has generally used in fish detection. But the passive acoustic system has not been tried in fishing since Freytag has proposed a possibilities of the passive detection of fishes in 1963. This paper describes the .feasible aspects of fish detection by listening of the sound they make. The passive acoustic system accompanied the active acoustic system may expand the range of detection and compensate for lack of capabilities each other, but there are some difficulties in noise rejection because the fre9uency range of ship noises covers the whole range vf biological sounds. The attempt to collect useful informations from underwater would be greatly contributed in fisheries.

  • This paper describes a redundancy resolution based method for determining an optimal initial configuration of a humanoid robot for holding an object. There are three important aspects for a humanoid robot to be able to hold an object. Those three aspects are the reachability that guarantees the robot to reach the object, the stability that guarantees the robot to remain stable while moving or holding the object, and the manipulability that makes the robot manipulate the object dexterously. In this paper, a humanoid robot with 20 degrees of freedom is considered. The humanoid robot is kinematically redundant and has infinite number of solutions for the initial configuration problem. The complex three-dimensional redundancy resolution problem is divided into two simple two-dimensional redundancy resolution problems by incorporating the symmetry of the problem, robot's moving capability, and the geometrical characteristics of the given robot. An optimal solution with respect to the reachability, the stability, and the manipulability is obtained by solving these two redundancy resolution problems.

  • This paper aims to show the role of mathematics in the age of disciplinary convergence. Classifying disciplinary convergence into three levels by its degree, I claim that mathematics can contribute to disciplinary convergence in three aspects: theoretical, linguistical, and spiritual. Then I assert that there is a corresponding relationship between three levels of convergence and three contributing aspects.

  • In this paper, some interesting aspects of Grzegorczyk classes $\xi\sum{n}$, n$\geq$0 & $\sum$= { 1, 2 } of word-theoretic primitive recursive functions are observed including the classes of its corresponding predicates ($\xi\sum{n}$)* In particular, the small classes $\xi\sum{n}$($n\leq2$) are very incomparable to the corresponding small classes $\xi\sum{n}$ where $\xi\sum{n}$ is the number-theoretic Grzegorczyk classes. As one of some interesting aspects of the small classes, we show that the equivalence problem in $\xi\sum{0}$is undecidable.

  • Statistical analyses used in clinical articles published on the Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society were identified and appropriateness of statistical aspects in reporting results was assessed. Forty seven clinical articles were selected in this study, which were published from February, 2005 to February, 2006 on the journal. The frequency of statistical analysis was as follows : descriptive statistics only 24 [51.1%]. one type of statistical method 10 [21.3%], two or more methods 13 [27.6%]. An assessment of statistical aspects was performed in 24 clinical articles reporting inferential statistics. Ten articles [41.7%] did not adequately describe or reference all statistical methods used. There were six articles [25.0%] not reporting the confidence level used as the critical criteria of the statistical significance. In thirteen articles [54.2%] it seems more appropriate to implement multivariate analyses in addition to univariate analyses. We recommend that the journal readers should concentrate on improving their knowledge of basic statistics and statistical review for manuscripts submitted should be sought from professionals in the fields of biostatistics and epidemiology.

  • To become an effective and successful consultation-liasion psychiatrist the psychiatrist should consider two aspects of consultation before he/she meets his/her patients. First the psychiatrist should understand the internal need and psychological state of patients who visited their physician before being refered to a psychiatrist So psychiatrists should be careful in the evaluation of the patient's intention whether they are willing to accept the psychiatric treatment approach or not Second the psychiatrist should understand the situation and the physician's internal need in the consultation. Psychiatrists should recognize whether there are any factors which interfere with the mutual understanding and cooperation between physicians and psychiatrist.

  • Regarding menopause as a turning point in woman's lift, the author reviewed the psychosocial aspects of menopause. Seeing menstruation as the symbolic meaning of female sexuality, psychoanalysts argue that menopause, the loss of symbolic meaning of female sexuality, may bring a mourning reaction to woman. It is reported that the high ratio of depression does not have a serious relationship with the menopause syndrome, and that depression cannot be viewed as a different symptoms. It is also proved that most women successfully recover themselves from temporary menopause symptom. Research data shows that some women have a negative thought on the meaning of menopause. Others, however, have a positive concept on the meaning of menopause because of the feeling of release and freedom. In sum, the author suggests that psychosocial consideration is very important as much as bilogical consideration in considering the meaning of menopausal syndrome.
