With advances in olfactory sensor technologies, the number of reports on various intelligent applications using multiple sensors (sensor arrays) are continuously increasing for fields such as medicine, environment, security, etc. For intelligent and point-of-care applications, it is not only important for the sensor technology to perform chemical or physical measurements rapidly and accurately, but it is also important for artificial intelligence technology to recognize and quantify specific chemicals or diagnose diseases such as lung cancer and diabetes. In particular, great advances in pattern recognition technologies, including deep learning algorithms, as well as sensor array technologies, are expected to enhance the potential of various types of olfactory intelligence applications, including early cancer diagnosis, drug seeking, military operations, and air pollution monitoring.
We experienced 2 years and 5 months old male patient with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return of the left lung into the coronary sinus without atrial septal defect. After incising the atrial septum and the wall between the left atrium and the coronary sinus, we made the roof of the coronary sinus and closed the artificial atrial septal defect, with using patch, then we could change the direction of the blood flow from the coronary sinus into the left atrium. The patient was discharged on the 13th postoperative day after uneventful postoperative course.

In this study, the characteristic of fluid flow in the new type lung assist devices has been established using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). For the modeling, the hollow fiber was ignored, and vertical types and tangential types were used for the model. Which was to analyze the flow characteristics of the fluid flow model when there exists 1 and 2 input/output ports, and when the input/output ports is located at the center of the cylinder and at the tangential direction with the cylinder wall. The modeling results showed that it was possible to eliminate no-flow region(stagnant layer) as shown in the vertical type when an inlet and an outlet were installed on the tangential direction of the cylinder as shown in the tangential type. Also, in the tangential type, vortex-type flow appeared as dominant, and it showed a complicated flow not deviated to one side. When the number of input/output was two, there was no deviated flow, and complicated flows were generated all across the tube. From the test result, it was found that input/output of flow was tangential type and complicated flows with no stagnant layer would be generated when there are two inputs/outputs, respectively.

Termitomyces sp. that grow in symbiosis with fungus-farming Termites have medicinal properties. However, they are rare in nature, and their artificial culture is challenging. The expression of AXL receptor tyrosine kinase and immune checkpoint molecules favor the growth of cancer cells. The study evaluated the optimal conditions for the artificial culture of Termitomyces and their inhibitory activity on AXL and immune checkpoint molecules in lung adenocarcinoma and melanoma cell lines. The culture of 45 strains of Termitomyces was compared. Five strains with marked growth rates were selected. Four of the selected strains form a single cluster by sequence analysis. The mycelium of 4 selected strains produces more fungal mass in potato dextrose broth than in a mixed media. The bark was the most appropriate solid substrate for Termitomyces mycelia culture. The mycelium of all five selected strains showed a higher growth rate under normal CO2 conditions. The culture broth, methanol, and ethyl acetate of one selected strain (T-120) inhibited the mRNA relative expression of AXL receptor tyrosine kinase and immune checkpoint molecules in cancer cell lines. Overall, these results suggest the potential usefulness of Termitomyces extracts as a coadjuvant therapy in malignant diseases.

The pulmonary system is a highly complex system that can only be understood by integrating its functional and structural aspects. Hence, in vivo animal models are generally used for pathological studies of pulmonary diseases and the evaluation of inhalation toxicity. However, to reduce the number of animals used in experimentation and with the consideration of animal welfare, alternative methods have been extensively developed. Notably, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) have agreed to prohibit animal testing after 2030. Therefore, the latest advances in biotechnology are revolutionizing the approach to developing in vitro inhalation models. For example, lung organ-on-a-chip (OoC) and organoid models have been intensively studied alongside advancements in three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting and microfluidic systems. These modeling systems can more precisely imitate the complex biological environment compared to traditional in vivo animal experiments. This review paper addresses multiple aspects of the recent in vitro modeling systems of lung OoC and organoids. It includes discussions on the use of endothelial cells, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts composed of lung alveoli generated from pluripotent stem cells or cancer cells. Moreover, it covers lung air-liquid interface (ALI) systems, transwell membrane materials, and in silico models using artificial intelligence (AI) for the establishment and evaluation of in vitro pulmonary systems.

The purpose of this work was to assess and quantify the beneficial effects of long-term gas exchange, at varying frequencies, for the development of a vibrating intravascular lung assistance device (VIVLAD), for patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The experimental design and procedure have been applied to the construction of a new device for assessing the effectiveness of membrane vibrations. An analytical solution has been developed for the hydrodynamics of flow through a bundle of sinusoidally vibrated hollow fibers, with the intention of gaining insight into how wall vibrations might enhance the performance of the VIVLAD. As a result, the maximum oxygen transfer rate was reached at the maximum amplitude and through the transfer of vibrations to the hollow fiber membranes. The device was excited by a frequency band of 7Hz at various water flow rates, as this frequency was the 2nd mode resonance frequency of the flexible beam. 675 hollow fiber membranes were also bundled, within the blood flow, into the device.
This paper presents the enhancement of oxygen transfer efficiency using vibrating intravascular lung assist device (VIVLAD) for patients having chronic respiratory problems. The flow rate was controlled by the pump and monitored by a built-in flow meter. The vibration apparatus was composed of a piezo-actuator, a function generator, and a power amplifier. Gas flow rates of up to 6 L/min through the 120-cm-long hollow fibers have been achieved by exciting a piezo-actuator. The output PVDF sensor and FRF (frequency response function) were investigated by various frequency in VIVLAD. As a result, the maximum oxygen transfer rate was found to occur with maximum amplitude and the transfer of vibration to the hollow fiber membranes. It was excited by the frequency band of 35 Hz at various distilled water flow rates, and various module types.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is one of the most dreadful lung diseases which effects the performance of the lung unpredictably. There is no any authentic natural history discovered yet pertaining to this disease and it has been very difficult for the physicians to diagnosis this disease. With the advent of Artificial intelligent and its related technologies this task has become a little bit easier. The aim of this paper is to develop and to explore the machine learning models for the prediction and diagnosis of this mysterious disease. For our study, we got IPF dataset from Haeundae Paik hospital consisting of 2425 patients. This dataset consists of 502 features. We applied different data preprocessing techniques for data cleaning while making the data fit for the machine learning implementation. After the preprocessing of the data, 18 features were selected for the experiment. In our experiment, we used different machine learning classifiers i.e., Multilayer perceptron (MLP), Support vector machine (SVM), and Random forest (RF). we compared the performance of each classifier. The experimental results showed that MLP outperformed all other compared models with 91.24% accuracy.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the physiological effects of non-elastic corset on women's health and pain through measuring the clothing pressure, subjective pressure sensation, blood velocity and metabolism. 5 women in their twenties were picked as our subjects, their average size being 85cm at bust girth, 69 cm at waist girth. With the subjects each wearing a corset, we are testing in artificial environment with a treadmill according to the planned exercise procedures. The average pressure of the corset is 0.938 kPa (maximum 3.006 kPa at 45 degree front bowing), which is 10.2 times higher than the control group, averaging from 9.3 times higher at resting, 11.4 times at walking, 11.1 times at running. The effect of corset pressure on the physiological responses of the body is increased more when exercise than when resting. Clothing pressure increased in the order of the postures: sitting > standing with 45 degree bowing > standing. They experienced a high level of tighten discomfort of 5.6 in the scale of 1.0 to 7.0 due to the high pressure of the corset when resting, after intense exercise the level increased to 6.0, while without corset the level increased 1.7 to 2.2. With corset on, the blood circulation did not increase even though when the body exercised and blood flow became unbalanced making great gaps between both at the right and left finger tips. Perspiration of chest and back decreased 37.3% when wearing corset; 27.5% at resting, 56.7% at walking, 25.8% at running, and 39.0% at recovery. With corset on oxygen consume and metabolism increased 9.0%, 7.9%, respectively, which means the corset makes the body uncomfortable. Lung volume exchange VE decreased almost 4.1~7.3% with corset on and $VCO_2/VO_2$, RER and total volume in lung, VT also decreased too, which means the digestion of stomach and lung function are inhibited due to the high corset pressure.
Traditionally, Cordyceps species have been used as a part of herbal medicine in Oriental countries, including Korea for internal health, vigor and to cure different diseases related to heart, lung etc. In recent years, research on artificial fruiting of some species of the genus Cordyceps including C. militaris has been carried out extensively because of their medicinal value. Instability observed in the in vitro fruiting of C. militaris is reported in the present study.
