  • This paper deals with the aspects of die design for the multistage fine tooth hub gear in the cold forging process. In order to manufacture the cold forged product for the precision hub gear used as the ARD 370 system of bicycle, it examines the influences of different designs on the metal flow through experiments and FE-simulation. To find the combination of design parameters which minimize the damage value, the low gear length, upper gear length and inner diameter as design parameters are considered. An orthogonal fraction factorial experiment is employed to study the influence of each parameter on the objective function or characteristics. The optimal punch shape of fine tooth hub gear is designed using the results of FE-simulation and the artificial neural network. To verify the optimal punch shape, the experiments of the cold forging of the hub gear are executed.

  • Gas hydrate has a unique property that can store a large volume of gas in water as a solid form. Even though investigations for natural gas storage technology have been carried out for several decades, there are still a lot of unsolved problems due to complex formation process, low formation speed, high energy consumption and so on. So, lots of experiments were conducted to overcome these weaknesses and to develop artificial NGH formation technology applicable to industrial-scale storage and commercial transport. In this study, some series of experiments were performed to analyze both stirred and unstirred system especially about the influences of several gas hydrate formation factors such as agitation speed, system temperature, SDS concentration, etc. As a result, optimum range of SDS concentration and temperature that could enhance the storage capacity and shorten the formation time were found. And it is obviously presented that SDS such a kind of surfactant promotes gas hydrate formation dramatically and the quantity of stored gas are proportional to agitation speed in stirred system.

  • The design of soccer studs is important for providing friction on a variety of surfaces. We hypothesized that a certain type of soccer studs could improve performance due to high rotational friction. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between the frictional characteristics and different soccer stud design. Twelve recreational soccer players were recruited. Rotational friction data from the force plate was collected for all subjects during normal walking with 180 degree rotation. Walking speed was controlled at 1.2m/s (${\pm}\;0.1\;m/s$) with timing lights on infilled artificial turf. Three different types of soccer studs and one running shoe were tested. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine significance. Significant differences were found in rotational friction with four different shoes. Trx and World studs tended to have greater maximum rotational friction than the running shoe (Nova) and traditional soccer shoe(Copa Mondial). The results were as follow : world(25.95Nm) > trx(25.74Nm) > copa(22.50Nm) > nova(16.36Nm). The difference may be due to the number, location, size, and shape of studs. We concluded that stud design influences rotational friction between the shoe and surface during movement. Based on studs design and contact area, Trx with blade type studs are recommended since it showed high rotational friction for performance as well as enough contact area for stability. However, differences due to the mechanical properties of soccer studs are still being investigated.

  • Impact-echo test, a kind of simple and economical method to evaluate the integrity of drilled piles has some limitations to use because the stress wave can be generated only on the head of a pile and the wave propagation in the pile with surrounding soils are very complicated. Numerical analyses and model tests in the laboratory have shown that both the ratio of length to diameter of a pile and the stiffness ratio of pile to soil have influence on the resolution of testing results. Full scale testing piles which have artificial defects were used to verify the capability of impact-echo technique as a tool for the pile integrity evaluation. Behaviour of the reflected signal of stress wave was investigated according to the type of defects. Elastic modulus of the pile was calculated using the wave velocity in the pile and the unconfined strength of concrete specimen. Influences of the stiffness difference between the pile and the ground on the characteristics of a wave signal were also examined.

  • This research analyzes the effects of factors on the demands for outbound to the countries such as Japan, China, the United States of America, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, the countries preferred by many Koreans. The factors for this research are (1) economic variables such as Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), which could have influences on outbound tourism and exchange rate and (2) unpredictable events such as diseases, financial crisis and terrors. Regression analysis was used to identify relationship based on the monthly data from January 2001 to December 2010. The results of the analysis show that both exchange rate and KOSPI have impacts on the demands for outbound travel. In the case of travels to the United States of America and Philippines, Korean tourists usually have particular purposes such as studying, visiting relatives, playing golf or honeymoon, thus they are less influenced by the exchange rate. Moreover, Korean tourists tend not to visit particular locations for some time when shock reaction happens. As the demands for outbound travels are different from country to country accompanied by economic variables and shock variables, differentiated measure to should be considered to come close to the target numbers of tourists by switching as well as creating the demands. For further study we plan to build outbound tourism forecasting models using Artificial Neural Networks.

  • The goal of this study is to establish an integrated watershed hydrologic model for the whole Nakdong River basin whose area is an approximately 24,000 km2. Including a number of watershed elements such as rainfall, runoff, water use, and so on, the proposed model is based on SWAT model, and is used to improve the flow duration curve estimation of ungauged watersheds for Korean Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). The model is also used to recognize quantitatively the river flow variation due to water use elements and large dam effluents in the whole watershed. The established combined watershed hydrologic model, SWAT-Nakdong, is used to evaluate the quantified influences of artificial water balance elements, such as a dam and water use in the watershed. We apply two water balance scenarios in this study: the dam scenario considering effluent conditions of 4 large multi-purpose dams, Andong dam, Imha dam, Namgang dam, and Habcheon dam, and the water use scenario considering a water use for stream line and the effluent from a treatment plant. The two scenarios are used to investigate the impacts on TMDL design flow and flow duration of particular locations in Nakdong River main stream. The results from this study will provide the basic guideline for the natural flow restoration in Nakdong River.

  • The aim of this study was to bring light on the effect of permeability to yield weight of paddy rice on the compressed soil. a) The percolation volume during the growth of paddy rice reduced, while the degree of compression on soil column increased and varied by the evaporation and absorption volumn. b) The percolation volume in the natural soil column was notably low compared with that of in the artificial and had little influence to the variation of permeabilty by compression. c) The results in growth of paddy rice were best on the section of low compression and the yield weight reduced, while the degree of compression on the soil column increased. d) The relationship between the yield weight and percolation volumn, under the condition when percolation volume is 1mm/day, had little difference in the yield weight but immediately reduced under $0.5{\sim}1.0mm/day$. The consequences of investigation are not so perfect, but have done my best to get some new data for effect on additional yield by inquiring into influences of permeability to the yield weight of paddy rice on compressed paddy field. I will have a great pleasure if treatise helps investigaters or the men of affairs in this field.

  • The relationship between the precipitation of secondary phase and the thermal properties of Al-4.5%Cu alloy (in wt.%) after various heat treatments has been studied. Solid solution treatment of alloy was performed at 808 K for 6 hours, followed by warm water quenching; then, the samples were aged in air at 473 K for different times. The thermal diffusivity of the Al-4.5%Cu alloy changed with the heat treatment conditions of the alloy at temperatures below 523 K. The as-quenched specimen had the lowest thermal diffusivity, and as the artificial aging time increased, the thermal diffusivity of the specimen increased in the temperature range between 298 and 523 K. For the specimen aged for five hours, the thermal conductivity was 12% higher than that of the as-quenched specimens at 298 K. It is confirmed that the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the Al-4.5%Cu alloy significantly depend on their thermal history at temperatures below 523 K. The precipitation and dissolution of the Al2Cu phase were confirmed via DSC for the alloys, and the formation of coefficient of thermal expansion peaks in TMA was caused by precipitation. The precipitation of supersaturated solid solution of Al-4.5%Cu alloys had an additional linear expansion of ≈ 0.05 % at 643 K during thermal expansion measurement.

  • Path finder is one of the very important algorithm of artificial intelligence and is a process generally used in many game fields. Path finder requires many calculation, so it exerts enormous influences on performances. To solve this, many researches on the ways to reduce the amount of calculate operations have been made, and the typical example is A* algorithm but it has unnecessary computing process, reducing efficiency. In this paper, to reduce the amount of calculate operations such as node search with costly arithmetic operations, we proposes the weight based pre-processing A* algorithm. The simulation was materialized to measure the efficiency of the weight based pre-process A* algorithm, and the results of the experiments showed that the weight based method was approximately 1~2 times more efficient than the general methods.

  • Chronobiology is the area of medicine that is, how time-related event shape our daily biologic responses and apply to any aspect of medicine with regard to altering pathophysiology and treatment response. In mammals, there are several evidences that prove suprachiasmatic nuclei(SCN) is the major circadian pacemaker and the circadian rhythm influences so many biological aspects of an living organism such as rest-activity, thermoregulation, reproduction, and endocrine system. In case of human beings, there had been little information of circadian system. That may be due to the experimental, technical difficulties to study but also to the fact that human has the more complex environments that may alter the circadina rhythm like the artificial light, many socio-cultural aspects and so forth. However, several reports of these days indicate human's circadian system is composed of two or more circadian oscillators and SCN is the major circadian oscillator among them like the other mammals. Free-running circadinan period of mankind is about 24 hours rather than about 25 hours, and rest-activity rhythm is polymodal like other species. In addition to that, human may have capcities to change the circadian rhythm as the seasonal changes of daynight schedule. In this article, the author will summarize recent progress of anatomy and physiology of the circadian clock mechanism in humans.
