  • As library have become changed. Beyond conventional simple functions such as data storing and recording, the functions of modern public libraries are expended to various directions, for example functions of encouraging residents to utilize information and participate in cultural activities and also a function of life-long education, resulting in playing a role as complex space. As the role of public libraries changes into a complex one, spatial planning reflecting this change is required. Spatial arrangements, furniture arrangements and interior images in 12 public libraries in Seoul were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was found that in spatial arrangements, many public libraries linked spaces by functions. Furniture arrangements have been changing from the closed arrangement to the open arrangement. Interior images were identified as static and simple except digital information space. Accordingly, public libraries have became needed to play a proper role of community facilities for local residents by planning furniture arrangements and conducting interior designs taking characteristics of many different users into consideration.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the stationarity of the electromyographic signal in various flexion angles, loads, and window sizes, which influence the result of the mean power frequency (MPF) and median frequency (MNF) analysis. Six healthy subjects participated in the experiment. They were tested in the combination of 3-level flexion angles (0 degree, 22.5 degree, 45 degree) and 3-level loads (0Nm, 30Nm, 60Nm). Electromyographic data were collected for 20 seconds during isometric contraction. The stationarity of collected data were analyzed with four different window sizes including 250, 500, 1000 and 2000ms. Two test methods for stationarity such as Reverse Arrangements Test and Modified Reverse Arrangements Test were used. In order to show the effect of nonstationarity, the increasing/decreasing trend of MPF and MNF trend were discussed. In results, the stationarity of the electromyographic signal decreased as flexion angle increased and load decreased while window size decreased based on Reverse Arrangements Test. The highest stationarity was shown at 500 ms window in Modified Reverse Arrangements Test. The inclination of MNF and MPF indicated 3.6-6.3%, 3.8-5.1% discrepancy compared to the result from stationary data.

  • Channels are implemented in composite beams as shear connectors in two arrangements, face to face and back to back. No relevant explanation is found in the design codes to clarify the preference of the mentioned arrangements. Besides, the designers do not have a common opinion on this subject; i.e., some recommend the face to face and others, back to back status. In this research, channel shear connectors in composite beams are studied analytically for both arrangements using ABAQUS software. For this purpose, they have been modeled in simply supported beams in the arrangements of face to face and back to back; their effects on the crack initiation load of concrete slabs were monitored. The stiffness values of composite beams were also compared in the two arrangements using force-displacement curve; the results are relatively the same in both cases. Furthermore, the effects of compressive strength of concrete, channel size, length and spacing of channels as well as steel type of channels on the performance of composite beams have been investigated. According to the results obtained in this research, the face to face status shows better performance in comparison with that of back to back, considering the load of concrete fracturing.

  • The effects of various supporting arrangements have been investigated on an excavation support system using a numerical tool. The purpose of providing different supporting arrangements was to limit the pile wall deflection in the range of 0.5% to 1% of the excavation depth. Firstly, a deep excavation supported by sheet pile wall was modeled and the effects of sheet pile wall thickness, excavation depth and distance to adjacent footings from sheet pile wall face were explored on the soil deformation and wall deflection. Further analysis was performed considering six different arrangements of tieback anchors and struts in order to limit the wall deflections. Case-01 represents the basic excavation geometry supported by sheet pile wall only. In Case-02, sheet pile wall was supported by struts. Case-03 is a sheet pile wall supported by tieback anchors. Likewise, for the Cases 04, 05 and 06, different arrangements of struts and tieback anchors were used. Finally, the effects of different supporting arrangements on soil deformation, sheet pile wall deflection, bending moments and anchor forces have been presented.

  • This study attempts to identify the ways of reducing the floor impact sound, by applying six different types of the reinforced bar girders and stirrup arrangements to the Structure: (1) the longer-direction girder arrangements (2) the shorter-direction girder arrangements (3) the diagonal-direction arrangements (4) the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (5) the shorter-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (6) the diagonal-direction arrangements with stirrups. In order to identify the most effective structural changes, each slab was tested with bang machines, measuring the level of the sound impact. The results showed that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups were the most effective one. In addition, the effectiveness of slab was found to be remarkable, showing the level of minimum 1dB to maximum 5dB, where the slab was compared with the control models without girders and stirrups. In conclusion, it is suggested that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups could possibly be applied to the Wall Structures to minimize the floor impact sound.

  • This study investigates the obstacles to implementing family-friendly policies and offering flexible work arrangements and provides policy directions. A survey was conducted of employers at 147 firms, resulting in 42-43 questionnaires being statistically analyzed. Frequencies, means and factor analysis were conducted by SPSSWIN 12.0. The findings are as follows: First, the main obstacle to implementing family-friendly policies was the burden of cost. Second, eight obstacle factors were extracted through factor analysis. They are; lack of replacement workers and concerns about equity issues, nonfamily-friendly culture, no guarantee of the effectiveness of programs, lack of information about the programs or polices, lack of communication and public relations, potential loss of productivity, administrative hassles, and structural obstacles. Third, there was a difference in implementing flexible work arrangements according to the factors of lack of replacement workers and concerns about equity issues and no guarantee of the effectiveness of programs. That is, the firms which didn't have these two obstacles tried to implement flexible work arrangements more than the others.

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams are critical structural elements used in offshore pile caps, rectangular cross-section water tanks, silo structures, transfer beams in high-rise buildings, and bent caps. As a result of the low shear span ratio to effective depth (a/d) in deep beams, arch action occurs, which leads to shear failure. Several studies have been carried out to improve the shear resistance of RC deep beams and avoid brittle fracture behavior in recent years. This study was performed to investigate the behavior of RC deep beams numerically and experimentally with different reinforcement arrangements. Deep beams with four different reinforcement arrangements were produced and tested under monotonic static loading in the study's scope. The horizontal and vertical shear reinforcement members were changed in the test specimens to obtain the effects of different reinforcement arrangements. However, the rebars used for tension and the vertical shear reinforcement ratio were constant. In addition, the behavior of each deep beam was obtained numerically with commercial finite element analysis (FEA) software ABAQUS, and the findings were compared with the experimental results. The results showed that the reinforcements placed diagonally significantly increased the load-carrying and energy absorption capacities of RC deep beams. Moreover, an apparent plastic plateau was seen in the load-displacement curves of these test specimens in question (DE-2 and DE-3). This finding also indicated that diagonally located reinforcements improve displacement ductility. Also, the numerical results showed that the FEM method could be used to accurately predict RC deep beams'behavior with different reinforcement arrangements.

  • The Characteristics of the flowfield through tube banks with in-line and staggered arrangements were investigated by PIV. Strouhal numbers, velocity vectors and velocity profiles around the cylinders with in-line and staggered arrangements were observed at the pitch ratio Pt/D=2.0 and Reynolds number of Re=$Re=4.0{\times}10^3$. As the results The flow patterns through tube banks were almost a straight line in case of the in-line arrangement while it was almost 八 type in case of the staggered arrangement in the direction of the wake. The average velocity in the rear region of the tube banks with the staggered arrangement was far smaller than that with the in-line arrangement. The Strouhal number in the last rank was far smaller than that in the front ranks in both of the in-line and staggered arrangements. The wake of each cylinder changed with time and with the position of the cylinder.
