어깨관절 가쪽돌림이 팔을 올리는 동안 어깨뼈 위쪽돌림근의 근활성도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Shoulder External Rotation on EMG Activity of the Scapular Upward Rotators during Arm Elevation)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of shoulder external rotation on muscle activities of the scapular upward rotators during arm elevation. METHODS: Nineteen healthy subjects with no medical history of shoulder pain or upper extremity disorders were recruited for this study. Electromyography (EMG) was used to measure the muscle activities of the serratus anterior (SA), upper trapezius (UP), lower trapezius (LT) and infraspinatus (IS) muscles during arm elevation. The EMG activities were recorded while the subjects performed $90^{\circ}$ arm elevation with three different arm positions; palm down (PD), neutral position (NP), and palm up (PU). While seated in a chair, the subject was asked to raise the upper extremity in the sagittal plane in random order. Subjects performed $90^{\circ}$ arm elevations in three trials at each arm position. The mean EMG activity normalized by the maximal voluntary isometric contraction was analyzed across three arm positions. Repeated measures one-way ANOVA and the post hoc Bonferroni tests were used to determine the differences in muscle activities among the three arm positions. RESULTS: The EMG activities of the SA and IS were significantly greater in the PU condition than in the other conditions during arm elevation. No significant difference was noted between the NP and PD conditions during arm elevation. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that shoulder external rotation (palm up position) can be used to activate the SA. Therefore, we recommend a scapular protraction exercise in the palm up position for strengthening the SA.

  • A theoretical study is presented for the end-point holding control of a one-link flexible arm, whose base is subjected to a lateral fluctuation. The arm is clamped on a rigid hub mounted directly on the shaft of d.c. servomoter. The tip position is measured by a gap sensor fixed in space isolated from the system vibration. The arm is controlled so as to make the end point stay precisely at its initial position even if the base is fluctuated.

An analysis of the arm-type site binding domain of bacteriophage .lambda. integrase

  • The 356 amino acid long lambda integrase protein of bacteriophage .lambda. constains two autonomous DNA binding domains with distinct sequence specificities. The amino terminal domain of integrase is implicated to bind to the arm-type sequences and the carboxyl domain interacts with the coretype sequencess. As a first step to understand the molecular mechanism of the integrase-DNA interaction at the arm-type site, the int(am)94 gene carrying an amber mutation at the 94th codon of the int was cloned under the control of the P$\_$tac/ promoter and the lacI$\_$q/ gene. The Int(am)94 mutant protein of amino terminal 93 amino acid residues can be produced at high level from a suppressor free strain harboring the plasmid pInt(am)94. The arm-type binding activity of Int(am)94 were measured in vivo and in vitro. A comparison of the arm-type binding properties of the wild-type integrase and the truncated Int(am)94 mutant indicated that the truncated fragment containing 93 amino acid residues carry all the determinants for DNA binding at the arm-type sites.

개인차 보상을 고려한 팔운동감의 정량화 방법 (Quantification Method of Kinesthetic Sense of Arm with Compensation for Individual Difference)

  • The human sensibility caused by the motion of an object grasped by a human operator is defined as kinesthetic sense of arm. Due to nonlinearity and ambiguity of human sense, there is no absolute standard for quantification of kinesthetic sense. In this research, a so-called 2-dimensional arm motion generator is developed to present various mechanical impedance (i.e., stiffness or damping) characteristics to a human arm. The kinesthetic words representing arm kinesthetic sense are selected and then the subject's satisfaction levels on these words for given impedance values are measured and processed by the SD method and factor analysis. In addition, the quantification method using neural network is proposed to take into account the individual difference between the mean sensibility and each subject's sensibility. Through this proposed algorithm, the sensibility of human motion described qualitatively can be converted into engineering data ensuring objectivity, reproducibility, and universality.

  • In this paper, a motion control algorithm is developed using a fuzzy control and the optimization of performance function, which makes a robot arm avoid an unexpected obstacle when the end-effector of the robot arm is moving to the goal position. During the motion, if there exists no obstacle, the end-effector of the robot arm moves along the pre-defined path. But if there exists an obstacle and close to the robot arm, the fuzzy motion controller is activated to adjust the path of the end-effector of the robot arm. Then, the robot arm takes the optimal posture for collision avoidance with the obstacle.   • The recent national contract (Ecotechnopia 21) supported by the ministry of environment puts much significance on new issues for the assessment of human effects arising from vibration and noise exposed to human. This paper focuses only on hand-arm vibration since it has been a major problem in protecting vibration exposure to human. To set up a systematic way of assessing adverse effects of hand-arm vibration, surveys were made on recent international standards and researches related to hand-arm vibration. The measurement and evaluation methods of hand-arm transmitted vibration, the relationship between vibration exposure and effects on health, and the assessment methods of nerve dysfunctions are addressed in this paper. Those methods are linked into a logical way of assessing effects of hand-arm vibration on human. Finally, the current activities and achievements in this work are briefly summarised.

Comparison of dominant and nondominant handwriting with the signal of a three-axial accelerometer

  • Handwriting using the dominant and nondominant arms was analyzed in 52 young adults with the aid of a three-axial accelerometer. We measured a signal vector magnitude (SVM) and the percentage of the total signal vector magnitude (%TSVM) for the metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP), radial styloid process (RSP), and lateral epicondyle (LE) of both arms. The SVM for the MCP was lower in the dominant arm than the nondominant arm, whereas that for the RSP was higher. %TVSM was lower for the MCP than for the RSP and LE in the nondominant arm, but higher for the MCP than for the LE in the nondominant arm. These findings suggest that controlling the MCP will improve the quality of handwriting, including when using the nondominant arm.

  • In this paper, a motion control algorithm is developed using a fuzzy control and the optimization of performance function, which makes a robot arm avoid an unexpected obstacle when the end-effector of the robot arm is moving to the goal position. During talc motion, if there exists no obstacle, the end-effector of the robot arm moves along the predefined path. But if these exists an obstacle and close to talc robot arm, the fuzzy motion controller is activated to adjust the path of the end-effector of the robot arm. Then, the robot arm takes the optimal posture far collision avoidance with the obstacle. To show the feasibility of the developed algorithm, numerical simulations are carried out with changing both the positions and sites of obstacles. It was concluded that the proposed algorithm gives a good performance for obstacle avoidance.

C-arm의 Tube 위치에 따른 거리 및 방향별 피폭선량 비교 (A Comparision of the Radiation dose by Distance and the Direction according to a Tube Position of the C-arm Unit)

  • In operation room, the use of the C-arm unit is increasing. So, the radiation dose of the person who work in operation room was even more increased than before. Thus, this study is shown the measurement of expose dose and the way for decrease of the radiation dose by using the C-arm unit. The experiment was performed with the C-arm unit and used a phantom which is similar to tissue of the human body and fluoro-glass dosimeter for dose measurement. The expose dose were measured by the tube position(over tube, under tube) of the C-arm unit, distance(50, 100$\sim$200cm), direction(I, II, III, IV), runtime(1min, 3min), wearing of the apron. The radiation dose was decreased twice and three times at under tube rather than over tube. The I direction was measured 20$\sim$30% more than the others. The biggest expose dose is 50cm from center on distance. The expose dose is decreased to far from center. In case of Wearing of the apron, the radiation dose was decreased 60$\sim$90% by the distance. But there weren't change of the radiation dose by C-arm tube position. In present, by increasing the usage of the C-arm unit, the radiation dose is inevitable. So, this study recommends us to use the under tube of the C-arm unit. Also, Wearing of the apron is required for minimum of the radiation exposure.

Effects of Reciprocal Inhibition Using Thera-band on Scapular Muscle Activities During Arm-lifting Exercises in Subjects with Rounded Shoulder Posture

  • PURPOSE: Excessive activity of the upper trapezius (UT) muscle contributes to a rounded shoulder posture (RSP) through abnormal rotation of the scapula that weakens the lower trapezius (LT) and serratus anterior (SA) muscles. This study compared the effects of two arm-lifting exercises with and without the use of a Thera-band on the activities of LT, SA, and UT muscles, and the LT/UT and SA/UT activity ratio in subjects with a rounded shoulder posture. METHODS: Sixteen subjects with RSP participated in this study. All subjects performed arm-lifting (AL), diagonal arm-lifting (DAL), arm lifting with isometric adduction (ALIA), and diagonal arm-lifting with isometric adduction (DALIA) exercises. The surface electromyography data, LT, SA, UT, and the LT/UT and SA/UT activity ratios were measured. A paired t-test was used to compare the differences between two arm-lifting exercises and two arm lifting with isometric adduction exercises. RESULTS: In ALIA and DALIA exercises, the UT muscle activity decreased significantly, whereas the LT/UT, SA/UT activity ratio increased significantly. The activity of SA muscle increased significantly more with DALIA than that with DAL. CONCLUSION: Arm-lifting exercises using a Thera-band can be implemented as an effective way to reduce the UT overactivity and increase the SA activity and LT/UT, SA/UT activity ratio in subjects with RSP.
