  • Due to increased demand for remodeling and repair in construction market in recent year, the usage of horse scaffold is increasing in the indoor finish works. Injuries related horse scaffold are mainly caused by poor installation or of careless handling of scaffold. Approximately 300 workers are injuried at construction site every year, it is accounting for about 1.5% of the total construction sector and has increased on a year-to-year trends. But the main contents between national standards and speccifications related to the manufacture and usage of horse scaffolds are mutually inconsistent, In particular, the rules on occupational safety and health standards are the basis for the prevention of industrial injuries, there is no explicit application being made to the horse scaffold commonly used on construction sites. The purpose of this study was to analye the manufacture and usage situations in order to reduce construction injuries that occur at the horse scaffolds. It will be utilized the results of the analysis as the basis data for unifying the major domestic standards and specifications associated with the manufacture and usage of horse scaffold.

  • One of the clearest reactions against Modern architecture, and its planning ideology of comprechensive development, was the neo-Regional movement which arose at more or less the same time in serval countries. In the mid-fifties architects in Mexico started to design architectures which mixed vermacular and Modern methodology to recall traditional buildings. This popular alternative to Modernism had caught on in Mexico by the recent to become the accepted approach for the most regional building built by the Mexican architects. The regional architecture provided the continual activity, safety and economy of traditional life which was lacking in so many Modern building, while the these ages provided a cultural continuity. Anonymity of craftsmanship, but personalization of each building; enclosed wall of strong color, wide inward opening, but flat roof; emotional layouts and poetic outdoor water space, but variable massing; as it the buildings had been constructed over several years-these were the contradictory signs of neo-Regionalism. The Regional architecture has direct reference to human inhabitation and use, and it embraces mystery, poetic sense, a quality we are losing in Modern life. There is a freedom from rules, which shows up especially in an insouciant use of color, just for fuv.

  • This study aims to examine what factors park users value in urban natural parte and to find ways to elevate user satisfaction for the creation and usage of an urban natural park To achieve this, the study relied on two methods: the descriptive method of researching publications and related scholastic writings, and the empirical study method including a survey of present condition and interviews with users. 'Breathing fresh air' and 'cleanliness' were the most important items and play facilities, cultural facilities, and landscape facilities were of lower orders of importance. This suggests that the 'sense of nature' is more important than functional facilities in urban natural parte. The importance of urban natural parks and the satisfaction visitors felt in them were measured, with mean results of 5.86 and 3.88, respectively, in terms of living surroundings. The impotance rating is higher than the satisfaction rating. Factor analysis resulted in six factors: benefits sought facilities for use, pleasant use, safety, accessibility, and management. Correlation and regression analysis showed only one positively correlated factor: benefits sought, suggesting that people recognize the importance of urban natural Parte through the benefits they gain in them and the satisfaction they find in urban parte depends on utilizing facilities. Therefore, in urban natural parks, people will find greater satisfaction through pursuit of the benefits they are seeking; improvements to park facilities should address the benefits that park users are seeking.

  • Deformability of road pavements in the form of ruts represent a safety risk for road users. In the procedures for dimensioning the pavement structure, the requirement that such deformations do not occur is imperatively included, which results in the appropriate selection of elements (material, geometry) of the pavement structure. Deformability and functionality, will depend of the correct design of pavement structure during exploitation period. Nevertheless, there are many examples where deformations are observed on the pavement structure, in the form of rutting at parts of the road with relatively short length, realised in the same climatic and the same geoenvironmental conditions. The performed analysis of deformability led to the conclusion that the level of deformation is a function of the speed of traffic. This effect is observed on city roads, but also outside of urban areas at roads with speed limits are significant, due to the traffic management, traffic jams (intersections, etc.). Still, the lower speed cause greater deformations. The authors tried to describe the deformability of flexible pavement structures, from the aspects of geotechnical problems, as a function of driving speed. Outcome of the analysis is a traffic load correction coefficient, in terms of using the existing methods of flexible pavement structures design.

  • To ensure safe port operations around the world, it is important to solve mooring problems. In particular, the many ports that face open seas have difficulties with long-period waves. As a countermeasure, the installation of a breakwater is proposed for mooring safety. However, this often cannot be put into practice because of financial issues. Instead, port terminals control berthing schedules with weather forecasting. However, mooring problems remain unsolved, because of inaccurate wave forecasting. To quantify the current situation, numerical simulations are presented with ship motions, fender deflections, and rope tensions. In addition, novel simulations for mooring ropes are proposed considering tension, friction, bending fatigue, and temperature. With this novel simulation, the optimal mooring method in terms of safety and economic efficiency was confirmed. In terms of safety, the optimal mooring method is verified to minimize dangerous mooring situations. Moreover, the optimal mooring method shows economic benefits and efficiency. It can help to reinforce the safety of port terminals and improve the efficiency of port operations.

  • Purpose: It is important to note that the relative importance of risk factors should be identified to successfully complete the remodeling project of general hospital. Approached by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the present study aimed to systematically evaluate the risk factors for remodeling of general hospital. Methods: The present work classified the risk factors of general hospital remodeling into four major categories including the requirements survey stage, planning and design stage, dismantling and construction stage, and maintenance stage. In addition, four sub-categories were derived from each major category factor. Furthermore, five major categories and four subcategories were selected to be considered from the perspectives of two stakeholders of contractor and constructor. The relative importance of the major and sub-categories factors was calculated using the AHP technique on the survey data collected from 49 respondents who participated in the survey study. Results: The results indicate that, the risk factor of requirements survey stage was found to be the most important risk factor to consider among the four major categories of factors. Also, insufficient preliminary investigation, design inconsistencies in architecture/mechanics/electricity, occurrence of safety accidents, and insufficient review of various equipment capacities and performances were found to have the highest priorities of each subcategory factor group included in the four major categories. From the perspective of contractor, the error in predicting the construction period was found to be the most important risk factor. The occurrence of safety accidents during construction was found to be the most important risk factor to be considered by constructor. Implications: The result of the current work should provide important insights and guidelines for the risk management activity that contributes to controlling the project time, cost, and scope required for general hospital remodeling.

  • These days, hospitals in Korea have great interests in healthcare accreditation. The criteria of this accreditation has been established by management, but development of the management system without facility improvement has limits. Therefore this study reclassified domestic and foreign healthcare accreditation focusing on facilities and has purpose on proposing facility elements that can be adopted in hospitals. Also, the study is relevant to the study on architecture planning of hospital according to 'Patient safety' which will be suggested in the future and has significance for establishing basis of healthcare facility planning and for improving the existing facilities. The study selected facility lists from 'healthcare accreditation' and reclassified them based on departments in the hospital. Using these lists, the study divided the hospital that has obtained 'healthcare accreditation' into departments and investigated and analyzed them. On the basis of the analysis, the study suggested facility lists involved in hand washing, waste disposal, equipment washing, quarantine, goods-movement, establishing clean/polluted area, emergency exit-way, and restricted zone.

  • Recent trends in the construction of building frame feature the use of composite steel concrete members. One of such system, RCS(Reinforced Concrete column and Steel beam) system, is known as a type of system to maximize the structural and economic benefits in the most efficient manner. This paper is focusing on an study of ultimate shear strength estimation of the interior beam-column joints of RCS system, with reinforced concrete column and steel beam. Current design methods as well as the majority of the previous researches for ultimate shear strength of the interior beam-column joint of RCS system are not easy to apply actual manner. There is a need to propose the rational macro models based on analytical approach. In this study, design method variables for interior beam-column joints of RCS system is studied assuming shear resistance of steel web panel, diagonal concrete strut mechanism and truss mechanism. Finally, calculated results based on the proposed design model are compared with test data.

  • This paper investigates the construction equipment accidents by time. Construction sites are unique with many different hazardous conditions which cause accidents. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), accidents related to construction equipment are one of the most leading causes of fatal injuries in the construction industry. While there have been many studies investigating the equipment-related accidents, few research studies provided in-depth analyses about the time that accidents frequently occurred. By using the OSHA accidents data collected between 1997 and 2012, this paper analyzed the accidents data by time, equipment type including excavator, backhoe, dozer, and crane, accident cause, and injury class. The analyses revealed that the time window with most accidents was between 13:00 and 13:59. In terms of the injury class, the time windows with the highest numbers of equipment accidents were between 13:00 and 13:59 and between 11:00 and 11:59 for fatality and hospitalization, respectively. For the accident causes, equipment operator's error was the highest number of accident causes. It is expected that findings from the analyses can be used to more strategically develop management plans and guidelines to prevent accidents related to construction equipment to practitioners.
