  • Many steel bridge infrastructures in the world are getting older, and a large number of these structures are in need of maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement. Most of them are subjected to corrosion due to exposure to aggressive environmental conditions and inadequate maintenance, causing reduction of their carrying capacities. In order to have an adequate bridge management, it is of paramount importance to develop an efficient, accurate and rapid condition assessment method which can be used to make reliable decisions affecting the cost and safety. Therefore, a simple and accurate method of calculating remaining yield and tensile strength by using a concept of representative effective thickness with correlation of initial thickness and maximum corroded depth is proposed in this study, based on the results of many tensile coupon tests of corroded plates obtained from a steel plate girder with severe corrosion, used for about 100 years. Furthermore, a strength reduction diagram which will be very useful for bridge inspection engineers to make rational decisions about the maintenance management of aged steel bridge infrastructures is presented.

  • In this paper, we study on aerial objects detection and position estimation algorithm for the safety of UAV that flight in BVLOS. We use the vision sensor and LiDAR to detect objects. We use YOLOv2 architecture based on CNN to detect objects on a 2D image. Additionally we use a clustering method to detect objects on point cloud data acquired from LiDAR. When a single sensor used, detection rate can be degraded in a specific situation depending on the characteristics of sensor. If the result of the detection algorithm using a single sensor is absent or false, we need to complement the detection accuracy. In order to complement the accuracy of detection algorithm based on a single sensor, we use the Kalman filter. And we fused the results of a single sensor to improve detection accuracy. We estimate the 3D position of the object using the pixel position of the object and distance measured to LiDAR. We verified the performance of proposed fusion algorithm by performing the simulation using the Gazebo simulator.

  • The objective of this study is to analysis the properties for reclassifying green roofs into three types by cluster analysis after investigating the present condition in thirty green roofs which were created from 2002 to 2004 by Seoul Metropolitan Government. The previous classification was resulted in structure safety diagnosis in the type of green roofs and visible judgment by experts in sites. However, it should have been corrected. Therefore, it needed a reestablished concept and a reclassification in green roofs. The results of this study are as follows : the concept of a rooftop garden and a green roof is different from previous studies. The rooftop gardens named by intensive green roofs are closed to integrated management, whereas the green roofs are closed to low management. The reclassification of green type was also conducted to use the statistic analysis of categorical regression by previous studies, and the factors extracted by the categorical regression were influenced by greening type. The figure of R-square representing explanation in regression analysis is 95.2%. As this result was analyzed, it was proved into rooftop gardens demanded for high activity by people.

  • Metal foam is a porous or cellular structure material and representative property is a very high porosity. Foamed materials have very special properties such as sound, vibration, energy and impact absorption capacity. Especially this properties are widely used for safety demands of architecture, auto and aircraft industry. But metal foam need to increased its compression strength and hardness. This study were researched about Al-Si alloy foams with variation amount of Si contents for their fabrication and properties such as porosity, cell structure, microstructure and mechanical properties. The result are that the range of pore size is 2~4 $mm{\phi}$, the high porosity are 88%, high yield strength is 1.8MPa, the strain ratio is 60~70% and vickers hardness is 33.1~50.6.

  • A windshield wiper system plays a key part in assurance of driver's safety at rainfall. However, because quantity of rain and snow vary irregularly according to time and velocity of automotive, a driver changes speed and operation period of a wiper from time to time in order to secure enough visual field in the traditional windshield wiper system. Because a manual operation of windshield wiper distracts driver's sensitivity and causes inadvertent driving, this is becoming direct cause of traffic accident. Therefore, this paper presents the basic architecture of vision-based smart windshield wiper system and the rain sensing algorithm that regulate speed and operation period of windshield wiper automatically according to quantity of rain or snow. Also, this paper introduces the fuzzy wiper control algorithm based on human's expertise, and evaluates performance of suggested algorithm in simulator model. In especial, the vision sensor can measure wide area relatively than the optical rain sensor. hence, this grasp rainfall state more exactly in case disturbance occurs.

  • The main objective of seismic codes is to prevent structural collapse and ensure life safety. Collapse probability of a structure is usually assessed by making a series of analytical model assumptions. This paper investigates the effect of finite element modeling (FEM) assumptions on the estimated collapse capacity of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame building and points out the modeling limitations. Widely used element formulations and hysteresis models are considered in the analysis. A full-scale, three-story RC frame building was utilized as the experimental model. Alternative finite element models are established by adopting a range of different modeling strategies. Using each model, the collapse capacity of the structure is evaluated via Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA). Results indicate that the analytically estimated collapse capacities are significantly sensitive to the utilized modeling approaches. Furthermore, results also show that models that represent stiffness degradation lead to a better correlation between the actual and analytical responses. Results of this study are expected to be useful for in developing proper models for assessing the collapse probability of RC frame structures.

  • In this paper, we consider the cybersecurity issue of ship information system (SIS) from a new perspective which is called opacity. For a SIS, its confidential information (named as "secret") may be leaked through the working behaviors of each Distributed Control Unit (DCU) from an outside observer called an "intruder" which is able to determine ship's mission state by detecting the source of each data flow from the corresponding DCUs in SIS. Therefore we proposed a dual layer mechanism to enforce opacity by activating non-essential DCU during secret mission. This mechanism is calculated by two types of insertion functions: Safety-assured insertion function ($f_{IS}$) and Admissibility-assured insertion function ($f_{IA}$). Due to different objectives, $f_{IS}$ is designed to confuse intruder by constructing a non-secret behaviors from a unsafe one, and the division of $f_{IA}$ is to polish the modified output behaviors back to normal. We define the property of "$I_2$-Enforceability" that dual layer insertion functions has the ability to enforce opacity. By a given mission map of SIS and the marked secret missions, we propose an algorithm to select $f_{IS}$ and compute its matchable $f_{IA}$ and then the DCUs which should be activated to release non-essential data flow in each step is calculable.

  • In this study, we surveyed the supply and perception of Personal Protective Equipments for firefighters. As a result, most of the respondents answered that they were paid in accordance with the supply standard, but 12% of the respondents said that there were insufficient equipment. Also, satisfaction with the performance of the equipment is mostly satisfied, but the safety gloves are more than 50% dissatisfied. In summing up the results of the survey, it is urgently necessary to improve the current supply standard, which is determined by the life of PPE, to the replacement period according to the using time or frequency. Also, a new standard should be prepared through the follow - up study.

  • The composite frame system with reinforced concrete column and steel beam can be improved in its structural efficiency by complementing the shortcomings of the two systems. The system, however, has many inherent problems in practical design and construction process due to the dissimilarities of the materials. Considering these circumstance, this research aims for the development of a composite structural system which connects the steel beams to the R/C columns with higher structural safety and economy. Basically, the proposed connection system is composed of four split tees, structural angles reinforced by a stiffener, high strength steel rods, connecting plates and shear plates. Structural tests have been carried out to investigate the moment transfer mechanism 1Tom the beam flange to steel rods or connecting plates through the structural angle reinforced by a stiffener. The four prototype specimens have been tested until the flange of the beam reached a plastic state. The test results indicated that no distinct material dissimilarities between concrete and steel have been detected for the proposed hybrid beam-column connection system and that the stress transfer through the structural angle between the beam flange and steel rods or connecting plates was very encouraging.
