  • Built-up environments by humans are cultural byproducts which combine social ideology and architectural paradigm. The process of modernization in the Western countries has the characteristic of decisive paradgm based on materialism. Therefore, environmental design in modern world failed to focus on the essential features of humanity which are the subject of space and replaced it for objective and unilateral architectural environments, instead. Environment without supporting the human psychological and complicated behaviorism is as same as the hardware without the vitality. under these regards, this study will cover the design approach of pattern language as a design method of environment design. The purpose of design approach by pattern language lies in creating the space of flexibility, adaptability and strong vitality. It is summed up as humanization in space and it helps the user to verbalize individualized space language for their own. The range and method of in the study attribute to the pattern language of Christopher Alexander and a researcher' method on them. In premise that human behavior ought to the multilateral and indefinite under rapid change of circumstances in modern world, th study tried to find the design method stimulating creative behavior of human being.

  • We propose a multi-strategic concept-spotting approach for robust spoken language understanding of conversational Korean in a hostile recognition environment such as in-car navigation and telebanking services. Our concept-spotting method adopts a partial semantic understanding strategy within a given specific domain since the method tries to directly extract predefined meaning representation slot values from spoken language inputs. In spite of partial understanding, we can efficiently acquire the necessary information to compose interesting applications because the meaning representation slots are properly designed for specific domain-oriented understanding tasks. We also propose a multi-strategic method based on this concept-spotting approach such as a voting method. We present experiments conducted to verify the feasibility of these methods using a variety of spoken Korean data.

  • The narrow-down approach, separately composed of search and classification stages, is an effective way of dealing with large-scale hierarchical text classification. Recent approaches introduce methods of incorporating global, local, and path information extracted from web taxonomies in the classification stage. Meanwhile, in the case of utilizing path information, there have been few efforts to address existing limitations and develop more sophisticated methods. In this paper, we propose an expansion method to effectively exploit category path information based on the observation that the existing method is exposed to a term mismatch problem and low discrimination power due to insufficient path information. The key idea of our method is to utilize relevant information not presented on category paths by adding more useful words. We evaluate the effectiveness of our method on state-of-the art narrow-down methods and report the results with in-depth analysis.

  • In this study, we develop a method for recognizing face images by combining wavelet decomposition, fisherface method, and fuzzy integral. The proposed approach comprises of four main stages. The first stage uses the wavelet decomposition. As a result of this decomposition, we obtain four subimages. The second stage of the approach applies a fisherface method to these four subimage sets. The two last phases are concerned with the generation of the degree of fuzzy membership and the aggregation of the individual classifiers by means of the fuzzy integral. The experimental results obtained for the CNU and Yale face databases reveal that the approach presented in this study yields better classification performance in comparison to the results produced by other classifiers.

  • In video-based recognition systems, stationary cameras are used to monitor an area of interest. These systems focus on a segmentation of the foreground in the video stream and the recognition of the events occurring in that area. The usual approach to discriminating the foreground from the video sequence is background subtraction. This paper presents a novel background subtraction method based on a probabilistic approach. We represent the posterior probability of the foreground based on the current image and all past images and derive an updated method. Furthermore, we present an efficient fusion method for the color and edge information in order to overcome the difficulties of existing background subtraction methods that use only color information. The suggested method is applied to synthetic data and real video streams, and its robust performance is demonstrated through experimentation.

  • This paper presents the Improved Pre-prepared Power Demand (IPPD) table and Muller's method as a means of solving the Profit Based Unit Commitment (PBUC) problem. In a deregulated environment, generation companies (GENCOs) schedule their generators to maximize profits rather than to satisfy power demand. The PBUC problem is solved by the proposed approach in two stages. Initially, information concerning committed units is obtained by the IPPD table and then the subprob-lem of Economic Dispatch (ED) is solved using Muller's method. The proposed approach has been tested on a power system with 3 and 10 generating units. Simulation results of the proposed approach have been compared with existing methods and also with traditional unit commitment. It is observed from the simulation results that the proposed algorithm provides maximum profit with less computational time compared to existing methods.

  • Knowledge of seismic earth pressure against rigid retaining wall is very important. Mononobe-Okabe method is commonly used, which considers pseudo-static approach. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method is used to compute the distribution of seismic earth pressure on a rigid cantilever retaining wall supporting dry cohesionless backfill. Planar rupture surface is considered in the analysis. Effect of various parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations on seismic earth pressure have been studied. Results are presented in terms of tabular and graphical non-dimensional form.

  • LHR(Landfill Site Hazard Ranking Model) was developed for ranking the relative hazard of landfill sites by using the method of value-structured approach. LHR consists of combining a multiattribute decision-making method with a Qualitative risk assessment approach. A pairwise com parisian method was applied to determine weights of landfill site factors related. To determine the hazard of landfill site, hydrogeological factors, waste characteristics factors and receptors factors were evaluated by LHR. LHR can help decision-makers prioritization of remediation of landfill sites through the relatively convenient and concise evaluation method of landfill site features related. LHR focuses mainly on pathways of groundwater and surfacewater for evaluating landfill hazard to receptors including humans. To validiate the applicability of LHR, Nanjido Landfill site, Metropolitan Landfill site, and Hwasung Landfill site were evaluated.

  • In multi-server environment, We have to design a mechanism that selects appropriate servers for processing each service request while maximizing server throughput and minimizing average response of service requests. In this paper, we propose a job scheduling method for courseware delivery system using a idle computing resources on LAN. The proposed scheduling method propose an approach that uses client service request time, server available period and server load of requested service as guidelines of server selection. Comparing the our approach method to conventional one, experiments that the proposed approach provides better performance.

  • PID control is widely used in industrial areas, but it is not easy to tune PID gains for an optimal control. The proposed learning method is to tune PID gains using the gradient approach. We use two estimation functions in this method : one is an error function for tuning of PID gains, and the other is a performance measuring function for a completion of learning. This paper shows that optimal PID controllers can be acquired when this learning method is applied to 10 systems with different natural frequencies and damping ratios.
