'Bojungikgi-tang' consists of Astragali Radix, Ginseng Radix, Atractylodis Rhizoma alba, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium, Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Bupleuri Radix. It has been widely prescribed in oriental medicine for controlling digestive functions and for health. Experimental studies were implemented on analgesic, sedative and antipyretic actions. The results showed significant analgesic and antipyretic actions were recognized. Sedative actions were significantly noted.

Experimental studies were conducted to investigate for the effect of Tongkyu-tang on analgesic, antipyretic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, isolated ileum and anti-histamine actions. Tongkyu-Tang was composed of sixteen crude drugs including Astragali Radix, which has been used for the treatment of common cold, headache, rhinitis, nasal obstruction, rhincospasm, etc. The following results have been obtained; analgesic and antipyretic actions were obtained. Prolonged action against the hypnotic duration of pentobarbital were significantly noted in mice. Anti-inflammatory effects in the paw edema induced by 1% carrageenin and 1% dextran were significantly shown in rats. Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed, and contractions of isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pigs induced by acetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were remarkably inhibited. Antihistamine actions were noted. Considering the above experimental results, it is suggested that effects of Tongkyu-tang based on the Oriental Medical References were similarly consistent with the actual experimental results.

Analgesic, anticonvulsive, sedative and antipyretic actions of Yangkyuksanwhatang which is composed of nine crude drugs including Rehmanniae Radix, and its effects on isolated ileum and blood vessel were investigated. The results of the studies were summerized as follows; 1. Analgesic and antipyretic effects were observed. 2. Suppressive actions were not shown on the convulsion induced by strychnine, but significant effects were noted on the convulsion induced by picrotoxin. 3. A prolongation of anesthetic time induced by pentobarbital sodium was significantly observed. 4. Relaxing actions were noted on the ileum of mice, and also, same effects were recognized on the contraction of the ileum due to acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 5. The expansion of blood vessels by relaxation of smooth muscle and hypotensive effects were noted.

Experimental studies were done to research the clinical effect of Bojeosodokeum on the Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial and Anti-convulsive effects in mice and rats. The results obtained as follows : 1. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on analgesic effect. 2. the solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on Anti-inflammatory effect. 3. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on antipyretic effect. 4. Antimicrobial effects of solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum against Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus was observed. 5. The solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum was revealed significant action on anticonvulsive effect. According to the above results, it is confirmed that analgestic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antimicrobial and anticonvulsive effect were recognized in solid extract powders of Bojeosodokeum.

These studies were conducted an attempt to investigate effects of 'Paeryungtang' and 'Kamipaeryungtang' water extracts on diuretic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory and analgesic actions. The results of these studies were summarized as follows; Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+$ excretions were significantly recognized in normal rat. Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly shown in rat with 2mg/kg $HgCl_2$-induced acute renal failure. Antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of 'Paeryungtang' and 'Kamipaeryungtang' were recognized in mice, rats and rabbits.

In order to investigate pharmacological actions of combined preparations of crude drugs, 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' were studied. The 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' using abdominal pain and convulsion of pediatric diseases are composed of Glycyrrhizae Radix and Paeoniae Radix alba. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-I) and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-II) on anticonvulsive, analgesic, antipyretic and sedative actions. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Both 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' showed anticonvulsive effects against convulsions induced by strychnine, picrotoxine and caffeine. 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' also showed analgesic and antipyretic effects. Parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' only prolonged the duration of hypnosis induced by sodium pentobarbital.

The acute and subacute toxicities and pharmacological actions of two preparations of Ssanghwa Tang prescriptions have been evaluated in mice, rats and rabbits. The two prescriptions were found to be safe drugs because those preparations exhibited almost no acute and subacute toxicities even at a high dosage level. The two prescriptions elicited CNS depressant activities characterized by potentiation of hexobarbital-induced narcosis, antipyretic activity in typhoid-vaccinated rabbits and a significant antifatigue effect against cold immobilized stress, the activities of prescription B being more potent.

The anti-inflammatory activity of water extract of Mahaengeuigam-Tang(MHEGTWE) was examined using the carrageenin and acetic acid induced edema, croton oil induced granuloma pouch, and adjuvant arthritis in rats. In addition, the acute toxicity, analgesic and antipyretic effects of MHEGTWE were investigated by the general experimental methods. In acute toxicity test in mice, MHEGTWE showed 10% mortality at 2400 mg/kg(p.o), but it did not showed at 1200 mg/kg(i.p). It was also showed significant analgesic action on the writhing syndrome induced by 0.7% acetic acid at 600 mg/kg(p.o) and its antipyretic activity was observed in the typhoid vaccine induced fevered rats at 300 mg/kg(p.o). By the oral administration of the MHEGTWE, the significant anti-inflammatory activity was observed on 1% carrageenin induced edema, and it significantly inhibited the granuloma and exudate formation in rats. In the adjuvant arthritis experiment, the MHEGTWE decreased the hind paw edema in rats for 19 days. The results suggest that MHEGTWE has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic action.

Loxoprofen sodium is an orally used anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agent. For alleviation or inhibition of the pain symptoms regardless of referred or superficial pain, the prompt absorption of a drug and its immediate bioavailability might be generally required for a formulation or development of a new drug. Therefore, in intramuscular administration, its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects were evaluated compared with an oral administration in animals. The occurrence of gastric damages which is common in nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was also observed.

The investigation was aimed to study effects of Shirhyung-tang extract and Kamishirhyung-tang extract on the diuretic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and the injured kidney induced by $HgCl_2$. The extract was administered to the experimental animals. The following results have been obtained. Duiretic effect was noted to be significant in extracts of Shirhyung-tang and Kamishirhyung-tang. Antipyretic effect was noted to be significant according to the density of Shirhyung-tang and Kamishirhyung-tang. Anti-inflammatory effect was noted to be significant in extract of Shirhyung-tang and Kamishirhyung-tang. Analgesic effect was noted to be significant in extracts of Shirhyung-tang and Kamishirhyung-tang.
