Anti-tank impact absorption with a reinforced concrete plate design

  • Anti-tank weapons are among the infantry weapons used by the armies of many countries. Anti-tank rockets and explosives such as TNT, generally used for armour piercing, are also frequently used in terrorist attacks. These attacks damage the protection facilities built from reinforced concrete. Rockets or similar explosives' rapid speed and burst temperatures pierce reinforced concrete during strikes, resulting in casualties and damage to crucial strategic structures. This study aimed to devise an economic and applicable reinforced concrete plate that could absorb the impact of anti-tank rockets and Trinitrotoluene (TNT) type explosives. Therefore, 5 different samples, produced from C50 reinforced concrete and 150×150 cm in size, were formed by combining plates of different numbers and thicknesses. Also, a sample, which was a single thick plate, was prepared. In destructive testing, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG-7) was used as the anti-tank rocket launcher. As a result of this study, the impact damage was reduced with hollow concrete plate geometries, and recommendations were developed for complete prevention.

  • In terms of this paper, concerning primarily with the U-tube tank stabilizer, the authors' aim is to clarify and consolidate the theory as it has been developed thus far, and to provide with the certain additions which will make it more complete, more accurate, and more practical. And then we can know that the effect of the vertical tank position from the C.G., $a_{st}=1-w^2/{w^2}_{st}$, is very important, on account for the fact that the position factor, $a_{st}$, increase when the anti-rolling tank attaches to higher position vertically, but $a_{st}$ does not increase in proportion to the distance of the tank position. Measuring many characteristic coefficients by experiment, in the equation of the ship-tank system motion, such as the inertia coefficient, the damping coefficient, the natural frequency and so on, they can also give a guess that the higher position will accompany the non-linear motion of the tank water, but the non-linear effect will decrease the tank ability. In this study, they deal with not only the optimum damping coefficient of tank, which has very simply been expressed by the strength ratio, $\lambda$, but also the effect of the tank top, which has experimentally been treated when the water has hit the tank top. As this result, we can immediately find that the ability of the anti-rolling tank decrease at w/ws=0.9 generally low frequency.

감요수조의 주기조절 장치 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of the Period Control Device of Anti-Rolling Tanks)

  • The effect of the passive anti-rolling tanks(ART) decreases when the roll period of the vessel does not match the designed oscillating period of the fluid in the tank. In order to improve the effect of the passive ART, the damping plates are installed in the lower duct of the ART to adjust the oscillating period of the fluid. The effects of the damping plates on the oscillating period of the fluid and the changes of the stabilizing moments are examined through the series of bench tests. Acryl model tank larger than 1m breadth is made to minimize the viscous effect of the tank and the stabilizing moments of the tank are measured for various roll angles. Using the obtained tank damping coefficient, RAO(Response Amplitude Operator) value in the resonance range is computed and the stabilizing effect of a ART has been estimated.

  • 부유체의 롤링은 심지어 구조물 전체를 전복시키고, 또 승조원의 피로를 누적시키고, 선체에 반복적인 외력을 가하는 등 부유체의 안정과 구조물의 안전에 심대한 영향을 끼친다. 그래서 거의 모든 선박의 경우에는 빌지킬을 설치하여 롤링을 감소시키고 있고, 특수한 경우에는 안티롤링 탱크나 핀 스테빌라이저나 자이로 스코프 등을 설치하여 롤링을 줄이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 안티롤링 추를 이용하여 부유체의 롤링을 줄이고자 한다. 보통 단진자라고 하면 질량체를 끈으로 어디엔가 고정시켜 놓고 자유롭게 흔들리는 구조를 말한다. 여기에서는 통상의 진자 대신에 추를 원궤도에 올려놓아서 단진동 운동을 하도록 하는 원리를 이용한다. 안티롤링 탱크의 물 대신 추를 이용하는 방식으로 약 1/6의 용적으로 안티롤링 탱크보다 더 좋은 효과를 낼 수 있음을 확인하였다.

On the Passive type Anti-Rolling Tank and its Activation by Air Blower

  • The systematic results of anti-rolling tanks tests obtained by bench tester and roll test in towing tank have been examined. The effects on the oscillating period of fluid transfer through the duct of U-tube tank due to damper plates and the effects on roll damping moment of the tank due to swash plates are alto evaluated from the results. A simple control algorithm for a forced fluid transfer in U-tube tanks if devised to active operation of the tank by air blower. The active performances of the tank are confirmed very effective through the tank tests carried out in the irregular waves.

  • The Anti-Rolling Tank(ART) has an advantage over the other roll stabilizing devices, when ship is staying and working at one site of sea. An important design point of ART is the tank tuning, that is, matching the tank natural period to the ship's roll natural period. Since the load condition and consequently the roll natural period of ship is to be changed widely, the natural period of ART also has to be changed widely. In case of the existing U-tube type ART with a single layer duct, the tank natural period can be changed in a relatively narrow range. This paper suggests a new U-tube type ART system using a double layer duct to enable wide change of ART natural period. Through the roll experiments performed in regular beam waves for a box-type model ship, it is shown that the double layer duct ART has about two times wider period range and a better reducing effect of roll magnitude than the single layer duct ART.

  • In this paper, authors investigate and analyze the effects of the anti-rolling tank which are calculated in accord with the tank damping coefficients by the computer, and which are represented with both the tank water's saturating state and the normal state in the irregular waves by analog computer. As the results of these studies, we immediately find that the tank optimum damping coefficient $b_{to}$, is 0.3877 due to calculating $\mu$-values, analyzing and comparing inclinations of $\mu$-values, and that although a nonlinear elements are included in the response character of the ship-tank system, the output is no longer Gaussian distribution, even when the sea waves are considered as Gaussian, and can not be expressed by the spectral forms which premise the superposition theory.

  • 우주발사체용 액체추진제 공급시스템에서 산화제가 엔진으로 공급될 때 다양한 환경 또는 외력에 의해서 탱크 내부의 출구영역에서 와류가 발생한다. 이러한 swirl을 방지하기 위한 탱크 내부에 AVD(Anti-Device Vortex)라는 와류방지 장치를 설치한다. 유동해석을 통해 LOX(액체산소) 공급에 효율적인 와류방지장치의 성능을 확인하였다. AVD 개수와 길이에 따라 공급시간에 대한 질유량과 산화제 자유표면에서 swirl의 크기 등을 분석해서 최적의 크기와 개수를 도출하고 설계에 반영하고자 한다.

  • Hull form development and Anti-rolling tank of G/T 360ton class fishery patrol ship was carried out in the CWC at Chosun university, cooperatively with WJFEL(The West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory). Same size of 15 knots class fishery patrol ship was selected as a parent form(Model number: CU-015), and modified fore and after body hull form under the slightly lengthened to be suitable for the operation at 20 knots. This paper investigated for a rolling performance and an effective using method when fishery patrol ship was equipped with anti-rolling tank. On several occasions of rolling test was made reference to design data of a similar ship. Although the hull form was highly constrained in being limited to modification of a parent hull form, significant wave resistance improvement was made.
