Research on Ship to Ship Channel Characteristics Based on Effect of Antenna Location in Inland Waterway at 5.9 GHz

  • A considerable literature has recently grown up on the theme of ship wireless communications. However, much of the research up to now has been descriptive in the offshore area. There has been little quantitative analysis of wireless communication in inland waterways, which has received considerable attention lately. Until now, only the effects on inland river environment are examined. What is less clear is the nature of channel change caused by the antenna movement. Here we explore the moving ship-to-fixed-ship fading characteristics at 5.9 GHz for an inland waterway in the city center of China. The ship motion trajectory is designed in order to determine the effect of changes in the antenna position. We evaluate the channel fading characteristics of inland waterway, which are highly correlated with the distance between transmitter and receiver. We demonstrate that the line-of-sight component, as well as the components from multipath with obstruction reflections, contributes largely to the mean power gap. Our findings reveal critical ship-to-ship characteristics in inland waterway, which definitely contribute to the field of ship wireless communications.

A New Optimized Localized Technique of CG Return Stroke Lightning Channel in Forest

  • Localization of lightning strike point (LSP) in the forest is modeled to mitigate the forest fire damage. Though forest fire ignited by lightning rarely happens, its damage on the forest is grievousness. Therefore, predicting accurate location of LSP becomes crucial in order to control the forest fire. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid localization algorithm by combining the received signal strength (RSS) and the received signal strength ratio (RSSR) to improve the accuracy by mitigating the environmental effect of lightning strike location in the forest. The proposed hybrid algorithm employs antenna theory (AT) model of cloud-to-ground (CG) return stroke lightning channel to forecast the location of the lightning strike. The obtained results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm achieves better location accuracy compared to the existing RSS method for predicting the lightning strike location considering additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment.

  • In this paper, we have studied the performance of the AOA (Angle of Arrival) in multi-antenna systems for LBS (Location Based Services) and we also analyzed the performance of the AOA in SISO (Single Input Single Output) in multipath environments and their differences. The adequacy of AOA positioning in new communication environments was determined. Currently used positioning methods in 3G communication environment has been developed based on SISO. However, the accuracy of SISO-based TOA (Time of Arrival), TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival), AOA positioning techniques degraded in multipath environments. The communication system will be changed and developed. According to enhanced positioning techniques are required. Using antenna characteristics and the phase difference between antennas of LTE-Advanced standard's key technique MIMO system AOA positioning, and SISO based AOA positioning performance were analyzed. We found that AOA technique potential for use based on Multiple antenna systems by computer simulations.

지하철 곡선 터널에서의 NLOS 전파 특성 (NLOS Propagation Characteristics in a Curved Subway Tunnel)

  • In this paper, path loss characteristics in a curved subway tunnel are measured and analyzed. The measurement is carried out in the frequency bands of 2.45GHz and 5.8GHz. A directional antenna is employed for transmission and an omnidirectional antenna for reception. This measurement is performed in the subway tunnel in the vicinity of the Daejon station. The tunnel is curved and its cross section is arch-shaped. The path loss is measured with the location of the transmitter antenna fixed and the receiver antenna moving in the tunnel. The measured path loss ratio is about 0.1dBm/m. Also, the signal received from the antenna located on the outer side of curve in the tunnel experiences weaker path loss.

  • 본 논문에서는 하나의 안테나에서 주파수가 다른 다수의 서비스를 송수신할 수 있는 이중 및 다중 대역 Slot Loaded 패치 안테나를 소개하였다. 이 안테나는 패치의 가장자리(edge)에 가까운 네 개의 슬롯에 의해 이중 및 다중 대역 안테나의 특성을 갖는다. 이 안테나의 프로브의 개수와 위치, 슬롯의 폭과 길이, 슬롯과 패치의 가장자리와의 거리 등을 변경함으로써 이중 및 다중 대역 주파수특성의 성능을 연구하였다.

  • 본 논문은 포트 당 일정 파워 제약을 전제한 상황에서, 다중 안테나를 장착한 분산 안테나 (distributed antenna: DA) 포트를 갖는 분산 안테나 시스템 (distributed antenna system: DAS)의 안테나 위치 설계 방법을 분석한다. 안테나 위치의 설계를 위해 복잡하게 셀 당 평균 ergodic sum rate를 최대화하는 대신, 본 논문에서는 단일 셀 상황에서는 signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) 기댓값의 lower bound에, 그리고 이중 셀 상황에서는 signal-to-leakage ratio (SLR) 기댓값의 lower bound에 각각 초점을 맞춘다. 단일 셀 상황의 경우, 기존의 반복적 알고리즘에 비해 SNR criterion의 최적화 문제는 닫힌 형태 (closed-form)의 솔루션을 제공한다. 또한, 이중 셀 상황에선 gradient ascent 방법을 이용한 알고리즘을 제안하여 SLR criterion의 최적화 솔루션을 도출한다.

UWB 통신을 위한 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나 설계 (Design of Tapered Slot Antenna for UWB Communications)

  • 본 논문에서는 UWB 통신 시스템의 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나를 제안하였다. 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나는 넓은 대역폭 특성과 진행파 안테나의 지향성 방사를 갖는다. 제안된 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나는 Ansys사의 HFSS를 사용하여 설계하였으며, 반사손실 및 정재파비, 방사패턴 등을 분석하였다. 안테나의 동작 대역은 2.7 ~ 4.8 GHz 대역에서 -10 dB S11 및 $VSWR{\leq}2$(2.1 GHz)를 만족하였다. 안테나의 방사패턴은 E-평면(YZ plane)과 H-평면(XZ plane)에서 특정한 방향으로 신호를 전송하는 지향성 방사패턴을 보였으며, 이득은 4.5 GHz 대역에서 7.3 dBi의 높은 이득을 보였다. 따라서 제안된 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나는 넓은 대역폭 특성과 위치인식에 적합한 지향성의 특성을 보인다.

RF Power Detector for Location Sensing

  • Recently, RFID has become popular in the field of remote sensing applications. Location awareness is one of the most important keys to deploying RFID for advanced object tracking. Generally, multiple reference RF stations or additional sensors are used for the location sensing with RFID, but, particularly in indoor environments, spatial layout and cost problems limit the applicability of those approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel method for location sensing with active RFID systems not requiring the need for reference stations or additional sensors. The system triangulates the position of RF signal source using the signal pattern of the loop antenna connected to the power detector. The power detector consists of a signal strength detector and a signal analysis unit. The signal analysis unit indicates the signal strength and serial number using the signal from the strength detector, and provides the direction of the signal to the application target. We designed three different signal analysis units depending on the threshold type. The developed system can sense the direction to the transponder located over 10 m away within the maximum error of $5^{\circ}$. It falls within a reasonable range in our normal office environment.

  • According to revolutionary developments in automobile technologies, eco-friendly advanced vehicles (hybrid vehicle, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.) are rapidly increasing. The electromagnetic compatibility is getting more important for development of a vehicle because those advanced vehicles are driven by electric energy and equipped with more electric systems. In general, electromagnetic compatibility tests consist of an electromagnetic interference(EMI) test and an electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS) test. EMI test of the electric vehicles are needed not only in driving mode but also in charging mode because they must be recharged by much electric energy for driving. Depending on vehicle manufacturers, the charging device type and the location of charging device inlet in electric vehicles are various. In this paper, in order to investigate EMI of electric vehicles in charging mode in consideration of the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet, a series of electromagnetic emission tests are conducted using three electric vehicles (neighborhood electric vehicle, electric vehicle and electric vehicle-bus). The test results show that electromagnetic emission measurements in charging mode are dependent on the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet.

E-면으로 직접 결합된 마이크로스트립 어레이 안테나 (Mecrostrip Array Antenna Directly Coupled to E-Plane)

  • In order to improve the radiation characteristics of the microstrip antenna, microstrip array antenna consisting of one center patch fed by a coaxial probe and several patches directly coupled to the E-plane by microstrip line is analyzed. The equivalent circuit of the array antenna is represented by the conventional transmission line and the various parameters, such as the mdicrostrip line length, the patch length and the feed point location are calculated to improve the radiation pattern for 5-patch array antenna which has the equal patch width. The 5-patch array antenna with the radiation pattern which has low sidelobe level and narrow beam width is fabricated and then the measured results are compared with the computed values and the results of the single patch microstrip antenna too.
