목재의 밀도에 의한 함수율 추정 - 연륜폭에 따른 변이 - (Estimation of the Moisture Content of Wood by Density - Moisture Variation with Annual Ring Width -)

  • The possibilities of the estimation of the moisture content(MC) for sitka-spruce (Picea sitchensis Carr.) by measuring density have been investigated. The method is based on the relationships between the wood density and moisture content of wood expressed by Equations (8)~(9). The purpose of this study is examining the estimation of the moisture content of wood by density and the variation of moisture content with annual ring width of wood. The following conclusions were obtained; 1. This method is very convenience because of the average moisture content of wood can be obtained by a simple estimation. This estimation can be made from the easy measurement of the weight and volume of wood. 2. Coefficient of determination between the experimental MCs and theoretical MCs which is calculated by the oven-dry densities of each specimens and Equations (8), (9) is 0.98. This Correlation is very remarkable. Therefore the model Equations on the estimation of moisture content by wood density was available. 3. Relationship between experimental MCs and theoretical MCs which is estimated by average oven-dry density of total specimens showed positive correlation(Fig.2). But from the Fig.4. we can concluded that the number of specimens is two groups. This phenomenon is considered that the variation of MC by the annual ring width from the specimens' observations. Consequently, the MCs of wood by density, is likely to be successful method. can be estimate using by the average oven-dry densities divided with the annual ring widths of wood.

  • This experiment was made to find the peripheral variations of annualring widths, the cell dimensions, microfibril angles and bulk densities within each annual-ring of horizontal-growing young tree of beech(Betul a platyphylla var. japonica) and Oak (Quercus variabilis) from the tension to the opposite side. Also a comparision between the features of the obnormal annual ring for horizontal-growing year and normal annual ring for the straight-growing years was made. The dimension of propotion of the element, the microfibril angles and the bulk density decreased or increased continuously toward opposite side which showed minimum or maximum value. The dimension of elements the microfibril angles and the bulk density decreased or increased continuously towards opposite side which showed minimum or maximum value. The dimension of elements. the microfibril angles and the bulk density in the normal annual rings were similar to those in the lateral woods. whereas were significantly more different in the tension wood than in the opposite wood. The features of typical opposite wood in the hardwoods were influenced by the locations within the inclined stems than effects of the decrease in the annual ring width. The oppostie woods in hardwoods did not conform to the tension wood and lateral wood. The abnormal annual ring included the opposite wood, lateral wood similar to normal wood and tension wood having specialized structure even in the same annual ring.

Soft X-ray분석(分析)에 의한 대기오염지역(大氣汚染地域)에서 자란 해송(Pinus thunbergii)의 연륜(年輪)의 특징(特徵) (Characteristics of Annual Rings of Pinus thunbergii Grown in the Air-polluted Area by Soft X-ray Analysis)

  • Soft X-ray에 의한 연륜밀도해석법(年輪密度解析法)으로 대기오염지역(大氣汚染地域)에서 자란 해송(Pinus thunbergii) 성목(成木)의 연륜(年輪)에 대한 특징(特徵)을 알아본 결과, 연륜폭(年輪幅)과 대기밀도(最大密度), 최대밀도(最大密度)와 최소밀도(最小密度)의 차(差)(이하DD)는 공장이 가동된 이후 오염원(汚染源)의 주변지역에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며 특히 오염원(汚染源)에서 가장 가까운 지역(地域)에서 가장 뚜렷히 감소하고 있었고 추재율(秋材率)과 최소밀도(最小密度)는 오염(汚染)으로 인한 감소와 증가의 뚜렷한 특징을 나타내지 않았다. 또한 연륜폭(年輪幅) 및 최대밀도(最大密度), DD는 공장가동직후 5년동안보다도 5년이후부터 더욱 감소되고 있었으며 감소율(減少率) 역시 공장가동 5년이후 부터 증가되었고 연륜폭(年輪幅)의 감소율(減少率)이 가장 컸다. 이와같이 본조사를 통하여 본 해송의 연륜폭(年輪幅) 및 최대밀도(最大密度), DD는 오염으로 인한 생장저해(生長沮害)의 지표(指標)로서 이용할 수 있다고 추측되었다.

강송의 기초적 재질에 관한 연구(제1보) (Studies on the Fundamental Properties of the Wood of Gumgangsong(Pinus densoflora for. erecta Uyeki) (Part 1))

  • This research was carried out to investigate the fundamental properties such as the structure of annual ring, density distribution, compressive strength with parallel to grain, relative crystallinity, and microfibril angle of Gumgangsong(Pinus densoflora for. erecta Uyeki). The wood specimens, Gumgangsong and Sonamu(Pinus densiflora S. et Z.), for this experiment were prepared at Ulijingoon Sokwangri and Kyungpook university's forest in Kyungpook province, respectively. Average annual ring width is $2.0mm{\pm}0.3$ in heartwood of Gumgangsong. The respectively of heart wood was over 60 percent in Gumgangsong and 20~50 percent in Sonamu. Heartwood density were ranged from 0.5 to $0.8{\;}g/cm^3$ in Gumgangsong and from 0.4 to $0.5{\;}g/cm^3$ in sonamu. Compressive strength in Gumgangsong and Sonamu was about $30{\pm}5MPa$ and $25{\pm}5MPa$, resepectively. But the relative crystallinity and microfibril angle of two species were not different clearly. From these results of Gumgangsong and Sonamu, therefore, it was considered the main difference factors for both species were annual ring width and heartwood percentage.

  • 북양산(北洋産) 주요(主要) 침(針), 활엽수재(闊葉樹材)의 물리적(物理的) 성질(性質)(밀도(密屠), 만재율(晩材率), 공권율(孔圈率), 평균년수폭(平均年輸幅))과 역학적(力學的) 성질(性質)(종압축강도, 횡압축강도, 전단강도에 관하여 연구(硏究) 조사하였다. 이 실험(實驗)의 연구(硏究) 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 밀도(密度)와 만재율(晩材率)은 물리적(物理的) 역학적(力學的) 성질(性質)과 밀접(密接)한 관계(關係)를 나타낸 반면, 공권율(孔圈率)과 평균년수폭(平均年輸幅)은 물리적(物理的) 역학적(力學的) 성질(性質)과 거의 관계(關係)가 없음을 나타내었다.

  • European maple is famous for the optimum solid wood for making bridge which is the most important part in violin acoustics. This study was carried out to investigate the variation of main features, i. e. annual ring width and cutting direction of costly imported violin bridge blanks and to examine the effect of these features of the blanks on the vibrational characteristics of bridge blanks. Imported violin bridge blanks had somewhat large variation in major macroscopical and physical properties and there was little relationship between annual ring density and weight of maple blanks. Resonant frequency of violin bridge blanks had some positive correlation with weight, however, damping having negative relationship with frequency was seldom affected by any physical properties of the maple blanks. Deviation from the radial cutting of tail side(ray direction from top toward feet on the edge of bridge blank) lowered the resonant frequency. Consequently, weight and ray direction should be taken for the critical quality decisive factors(QDF) of incoming bridge blanks by not only inspectors also luthiers who tune the bridge by shaping and are responsible for the final timbre quality of this complicate instrument.

Characterization of Nalita Wood (Trema orientalis) as a Source of Fiber for Papermaking (Part I): Anatomical, morphological and chemical properties

  • Nalita wood (Trema orientalis), one of the fastest growing woods in the world, is characterized anatomical, morphological and chemical properties at annual growth ring level in order to investigate as papermaking raw material. The proportion of fibers and vessel was increased with an increase of growth ring (from pith to bark). The fiber length of Nalita was increased with increasing growth ring, and an average fiber length was about 817 um. The average basic density of Nalita was about 0.38 g/cc. The total lignin & holocellulose in Nalita were increased and ash & alcohol-benzene extract decreased from pith to bark. These values were about 23.5 - 24.4 %, 78.1 - 80.1 %, 1.04 - 0.92 % and 2.1 - 1.8 %, respectively. The xylan was the predominant sugar in the hemicellulose of Nalita.

  • In fast grown softwood, there are very large changes in material properties going outward from the pith to bark such as anatomical, physical and mechanical characteristics. Some of variations in anatomical properties with annual ring were then examined from Pinus koraiensis, Larix leptolepis, and Chamaecyparis obtusa, which are major softwoods of plantation in Korea. The large variations of annual ring width during young age of tree tended to stabilize after 25year through the transitional period in 17~23year. The ring density was 1.5~2.4 in 1~10year period, and 3.5~6.3 in 30~35year period, in which juvenile and mature wood were certainly assumed to be formed, respectively. Variations of tracheid length showed functional relationships with annual rings as logarithm. Demarcation between juvenile wood and mature wood could be 16~19year, which was determined from increase rate of tracheid length of 0.2%. Cell wall thickness increased with increase of annual ring even though large variations were observed as well. Variations of cell wall thickness within species were pronounced in latewood than earlywood. The increase of cell wall thickness from juvenile wood to mature wood was predominant in Larix leptolepis as 2.0times, and least in Chamaecyparis obtusa as 1.1 times. Cell diameters showed trends of increase during young age of 1~15year, and consistent afterward. The variations of cell diameter between radial and tangential direction were greater in latewood, and most pronounced in Chamaecyparis obtusa.

충북지역 주요 수종의 연륜생장량 특성에 관한 연구 (Annual Tree Ring Growth Characteristics for Major Species in Chungbuk Province)

  • 본 연구는 2007년도 조사된 국가산림자원조사 자료를 이용하여 충북지방에 분포하는 주요 수종에 대하여 평균 연륜생장량과 연륜생장량에 영향을 미치는 인자들과의 상관관계를 분석하고자 하였다. 충북지역에서 조사된 고정표본점은 총 56개소로 다양한 수종이 분포하였으며 그 중 개체수 분포 비율이 높은 10개 수종에 대하여 총 800본의 연륜생장량이 조사된 목편 자료를 대상으로 분석하였다. 충북지방에서 평균 연륜생장량이 가장 높은 수종은 아까시나무(2.30mm/yr)로 나타났고, 그 다음으로는 졸참나무(2.27mm/yr)>산벚나무(1.98mm/yr)>일본잎갈나무(1.98mm/yr) 순으로 나타났다. 대부분 주요 수종들의 경우, 영급과 임분밀도가 증가함에 따라 평균 연륜생장량은 감소하는 경향으로 나타났다.

Comparing NDVI to maximum latewood density of annual tree rings in a boreal coniferous forest in North China

  • In boreal conifers in China's Northeast area, maximum latewood density (MXD) of tree-ring varies in response to growing season temperature. Forest net productivity can be estimated using the Normalized-difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) calculated from satellite sensor data. MXD from the Mohe site in this area was compared with estimates of NPP for 1982-1999 produced by the NDVI model, which was established based on the relationship of leaf area index (LAI) and NDVI. The result shows that the MXD series correlated significantly with the NDVI model estimates series, suggesting that MXD appeared to be an appropriate index for productivity or canopy growth in region where forest productivity is strongly temperature-related.
