아동 미각교육을 위한 쌀 Kit 개발 및 이를 활용한 미각 특성조사 (The Development of a Taste Kit for Education and Research into Sensory Characteristics)

  • This study was designed to measure taste sensitivity and the five basic senses by an educational classification instrument. The instrument was a rice kit that could use samples in a dry powder form or oil extract after long-term storage To test for taste, sucrose, salt, citric acid, and quinine sulfate were made at different concentrations and taste sensitivity was measured on a scale from level 1 to level 5. To obtain baseline data, an inspection tool for the five senses was used and randomly applied on 101 schoolchildren in the third and fourth grade in the city of Cheonan in Korea. The inspection tool was composed of 17 questions; 5 questions regarding visual characteristics and three questions each for characteristics regarding taste, hearing, smell, and touch. The average age of the schoolchildren was 9.5 years old and there were 49 third grade students (9 years of age), and 52 fourth grade students (ten years of age). There were slightly more male students than female students, 56 (55.4%) compared to 45 (44.6%), respectively. The average height of female students was higher than that of males, but the average BMI (body mass index) of the male students was slightly higher than that of female students (18.28 compared to 18.09, respectively). Female students were slightly more sensitive to salty tastes than male students (2.8 compared to 2.5, respectively). In the score distribution for each sense, touch sense was the highest at 7.59, sight sense was 7.49, hearing sense was 5.43, smell sense was 5.24, and taste sense was lowest at 3.69. Therefore, schoolchildren first tend to recognize and deem important the touch and sight of food before its taste.

요양시설 노인을 위한 구강건강 평가 도구의 타당도와 신뢰도 (Validity and Reliability of an Oral Health Assessment Tool for Elderly in Long-Term Care Facilities)

  • Background: The elderly in long-term care facilities tend to have a diminished oral health status, with a high prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease, as reduced cognitive function, joint mobility, and gait ability hinder the performance of oral hygiene. To improve the oral health of the elderly at long-term care facilities, it is necessary to have precise guidelines for oral health care and assessment; however, such guidelines are not readily available. Therefore, the present study aimed to develop an oral care assessment tool with verified reliability and validity. Methods: The participants in this study were 100 elderly patients at a care facilities and 10 clinical dental hygienists. Collected data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, content validity index, and inter-rater reliability, as well as the analyses of intra-class correlation coefficient. Results: After a review of relevant literature, a preliminary questionnaire comprised of seven questions related to the evaluation of oral health was formed. After revising and supplementing the questions through a content validity test, a total of nine questions were selected. Conclusion: The novel assessment tool developed for the present study is anticipated to allow analyses of the level of problems related to oral health care before routine and professional care. Moreover, regular oral health status check-ups will enable the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

A Strategy for Productive Teachers' Questioning in Chemistry Class: Disassembly, Assembly and Interweave of Questions

  • Questioning forms an integral part of most strategies for effective teaching when the class consists of difficult content. Science including chemistry is usually content-rich, but difficult to understand without supporting lab experiments, subsidiary visual materials and model kits. Engaging the attention and interest of students in such a subject, therefore, is the key to the success of a daily lesson in the classroom. However, generating meaningful questions requires a certain level of information and metacognitive skills on the part of the teacher. The purpose of this study was to find out the framework of effective teachers' questioning with a large group in chemistry class: how teachers used questioning to engage their students in such a big class, to identify a variety of forms of feedback provided by students and to develop a model of question-inducing strategies. We investigated the teachers' recognition of their questioning and the students' recognition of teachers' questioning by surveying over 82 teachers and 434 students in Korea. The survey findings show that the questionnaire can be categorized into four elements: the theme of the teachers' questions (T), students' inquiries (I), methods of teachers' questioning (M) and encouragement of students (E). These elements can be analyzed and sub-categorized to find out which elements are effective in good questioning, even though the elements are interwoven tetrahedrally.

Experience in Using Peer-to-Peer Platforms and Immersive Technologies in the Training of Future Masters of Pharmacy in Medical Lyceum

  • The present study has been conducted to evaluate the experience in using peer-to-peer platforms and immersive technologies in the training of future masters of pharmacy from the Pharmaceutical Faculty of Bogomolets National Medical University, Ukraine. The selected participants were given the pre- and post-test containing multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of immersive technologies. Further, a self-designed structured questionnaire contained 10 questions with 5 options was delivered to consented participants through email and WhatsApp. The results of test presented that students attained an average of 26% in their pre-test while the average attained score post-test was 74% that showed a significant improvement with peer-to-peer platforms and virtual reality technology. The results of survey questions also showed an overall 86.73% satisfaction for the use of peer-to-peer platforms and virtual reality technology in the training of future masters of pharmacy. These results demonstrated that 90.81% showed agreement that they gained a high level of confidence through peer-to-peer platforms and virtual reality to handle patients in clinical practice. It can be concluded that participants of this study showed a strong agreement with positive experience in using peer-to-peer platforms and virtual reality technology in the training of future masters of pharmacy in medical lyceum.

유아교육기관에서의 비디오 매체 활용 (Video Usage in Early Childhood Programs)

  • This study was carried out to analyze video usage in early childhood programs. Two-hundred-ninety-four teachers in half-day and all-day early childhood programs responded to a questionnaire developed by a researcher. Descriptive analysis and chi-square tests were used to answer research questions. The findings were as follows: ① 78% of the programs had at least one video equipment and half of the programs had a video equipment in each classroom. ② Video usage in early childhood programs were differed by leacher’s age, career level, educational level, and type of early childhood programs as well as type of class management.

소비자의 제조물책임에 대한 태도 (Investigation of Consumers' Attitudes toward Product Liability)

  • This research explores the consumer perspective on several questions relating to product liability. The purpose of this study was (1) to assess consumers' attitudes level toward product liability, and (2) to identify respondents' socio-economic and consumer related variables that influence attitudes toward product liability. Data were collected from questionaires with 319 adults who were residents of Seoul. This paper presents the results of general agreement(2.59-3.58 by 4 point likert) concerning important issues related product liability. The attitudes toward product liability were significant partly according to education level, job, monthly family income, consumer education experience, the experience of reading journals, consumer information contact frequency and product safety orientation.

A Study on Survey Questionnaire to Measure the Knowledge Level of the Foodborne Disease

  • In this article, the aim is at evaluating the knowledge level of the foodbome disease by developing a reasonable survey questionnaire model. Each questions of the questionnaire is made up to check the knowledge covering the several fields of materials related to the foodbome disease. The pilot survey is implemented to evaluate the validity of questionnaire. Each question in questionnaire is scored to get the quantitative measure of the foodbome disease knowledge by converting the total score into 100 points.

관상동맥 질환자의 적대감, 특성분노 수준 및 분노표현방식에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Expression of Hostility, Trait Anger, and Anger in Patients with CAD)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of expressions of hostility, trait anger, and anger in patients with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Method: Ninety patients between 30 and 80 who were admitted to A hospital participated in the study. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey using convenience sampling. The research tool consisted of 24 questions by Costa et al (1986) and 10 questions specifically on anger from the Korean version (Chon, Hahn, & Lee, 1998) of the State-Trait Anger Inventory by Spielberger (1988). All of the questions were answered using a 4-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed with SPSS Win version 10.0. Result: Mean scores for hostility, trait anger, anger-out, anger-in, and anger-control were 2.51, 2.19, 1.93, 1.85, and 2.56, respectively. Hostility and trait anger showed a significantly positive correlation to anger-out and anger-in. Conclusion: This study presented baseline data that indicate that psychosocial factors are associated with the occurrence and progression of CAD. Accordingly, various programs that include psychological interventions are required to diminish the level of hostility and anger. Also, further studies should be conducted with larger patient populations.

  • This article reviews recent developments in the emerging field of cellular-level biomedical ultrasonics with the specific focus on the mechanics of ultrasound-cell interaction. Due to the nature of the field at its relative infancy, the review poses more questions than it provides answers. Discussed are topics such as the basic structure of a biological cell, the origin of cell's elasticity, a theoretical framework for ultrasound-cell interaction, and shape deformation of cells and its measurement, Some interesting problems for future study are proposed.
